Family is made up of both strengths and stresses. Families cannot have one of these factors without the other. Even the most dysfunctional families have some strengths that keep them united, while the most united families have some stress. Let’s take the Kardashian for example. Family stressors are events that could happen in a family which lead to disaster. Some examples of events could be disease, unwanted birth, death and …show more content…

Let’s take military families for example when a family member joins a military to serve his/her country, their families stress over safety. Even during peaceful times military families face separation, military children’s change states/countries so often that they don’t have a personal life, they don’t stay in one place to have a lasting friendship, they change schools so often in some case they fall behind, And during wartime military children and families stress over their family member safety. (Nansook Park, 2011). “Pentagon estimates suggest that nearly 900,000 service members with children have been deployed to war since 2001, and approximately 234,000 children have one or both parents currently deployed to a combat zone” (Zoroya,
Not many people in society can empathize with those who have been in a war and have experienced war firsthand. Society is unaware that many individuals are taken away from their families to risk their lives serving in the war. Because of this, families are left to wonder if they will ever get to see their sons and daughters again. In a war, young men are taken away from their loved ones without a promise that they will get to see them again. The survivors come back with frightening memories of their traumatic experiences. Although some would argue that war affects families the most, Tim O’Brien and Kenneth W. Bagby are able to convey the idea that war can negatively impact one’s self by causing this person long lasting emotional damage.
...volving death and separation. Children within the United States whose parents serve in the military are left to deal with issues of separation and fear. The fear of not knowing when their parents are coming home, and if they’ll come back the same person they were when they left. Since we are incapable of hiding violence and the act of war from children, it is better to help them understand the meaning behind it and teach them that violence is not always the answer. Children react based on what they see and hear, and if the community and world around them portrays positive things, then the child will portray a positive attitude as well.
Today in America, people see the war zones of Syria, Iraq and Turkey with all the families torn apart and do not think twice about it but for those in the war zones the struggle to keep a family together is hard. “You don’t involve any more Meekers in this terrible war,” (Collier and Collier 149). Mrs. Meeker has already lost half of her
...ghtful and inspirational to many. Realizing that each member of a family has his own issues that he is dealing with on top of keeping his family together can alter his reasoning and decision-making. Becoming less self-obsessed and demonstrating empathy for family members during difficult circumstances can be essential in keeping a family strong. Building and fortifying a foundation of family unity can be pivotal distinction between a family who stands together and one who crumbles apart.
From the parent’s perspective it may be easier to move constantly compared to a child’s but, the benefits can make for memorable experiences for a child’s childhood. The constant moving and stationing of families in new area of the world can help promote diversity in children. Having the ability to live in new states or even countries brings about more diverse amount of cultural differences that can help children appreciate diversity in the world. The children can experience some difficulties when they first start moving to new areas. Some people think instead of promoting diversity in children the military become unsocial instead of experiencing different cultures. According Kelly, “military children who move more frequently experience a greater difficulty making new friends, have more difficulty in school and more emotional and behavior problems.” (Kelly) Kelly argues that for the children in the military they have harder experience adjusting to the new location making it hard for them to experience the diverse culture in school. With emotional and behavior problems included the children could never truly have the opportunity to e...
For example, a child experiencing the birth of a sibling may feel normal stress. The second form of crisis is situational, which creates stress because of feelings of loss or fear. This type of stress can occur with the death of a relative or the divorce of parents. The last level is high risk, and this level of stress can aid in the development of emotional disorders and cause greater than usual stress. When a child within this age range displays behaviors such as anxiety, impulsiveness, refusal to follow directions, and/or aggressive outbursts, compared to those of his or her healthy, developed counterparts, these are abnormal behaviors and require professional attention.
ABC-X model of family stress is a tool that is used by human services professionals and other support services to state the category a family stress level is. The model was researched in 1949 on war induced separation and reunion. Since the model research was introduced it has expanded and shown tremendously effectiveness. As I read from the chapter and the lecture notes I think this is a great tool for professionals to use to support family stress. ABC-X model of family stress is defined as normal family stress that comes from many forms in life for example the stress that comes when one is getting married, when having a baby in the family, jobs, relocating from one place to another, lack of unemployment and many other forms. I’ve gone blind” (Findley 186). Actually, the relatives of fighters sent to war can be controversially influenced psychologically and emotionally. Like stated in Canada in Context, “The result is more depression, more stress, and more sleepless nights. " Many family members at home worry about the wellbeing of their son or husband who is at war.
People desire attention, support, and approval from others, and react to other’s expectations and stressors. Each family has its own degree of interdependence. If one member exhibits a change in functioning, another member will follow with reciprocal changes. A family’s interdependence evolves to promote cohesion to take care of, and protect family members. Tensions can affect this process leading to problems within the family. When one member is anxious, the anxiety may spread to others in the family and escalate, leaving the family members overwhelmed or isolative.
A family of five including a father Tom, mother Fran, two sons Arthur 9 and Collin 2, and daughter Jennifer 4 was court ordered to attend therapy from the result on charges of child neglect. The family charges were based on inappropriate living environment and resulted to temporary losing custody on Arthur and Jennifer, however Collin remain in protected custody from the results of illness. After the return of Arthur and Jennifer, the children have displayed defiant behavior including constantly fighting each other and arguing. Their behavior is the results of an attempt to gain attention of their parents after living with strangers. The temporary disconnection with their family has resulted in a disruption in self-control and social skills.
When the word “family” is discussed, most people think of mothers, fathers, and other siblings. Some people think of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even cousins and more on the pedigree tree. Without family in people's lives, they would not be the same people that they grew up to be today and in the future. When people hear the word family they think about, the ones who will help them in any way they can whether it’s money, support, advice, or anything to help them succeed in life. Family will forever be the backbone of support.
A convenient way to think about stress is in terms of stressors and stress responses. Stressors are events that threaten or challenge people. They are the sources of stress, such as having to make decisions, getting married, and natural disasters. Stress responses are psychological, physiological, and behavioral reactions to stressors. Anxiety, depression, concentration difficulties, and muscle tension are all examples of stress responses.
"Family is not an important thing. It's everything.” This remarkable quote by Michel J. Fox should be the definition of family. Family is everything, they are our motivation, the ones that will love us when others don’t, and are the ones who stick to each other as gum when times get tough. Families have the most robust connections alive. These ties are so solid, and deeply intact that they can do everything and anything. These links allow a family to influence, shape, impact, and change one’s life. The intimacy within the family sphere, shape all who are inside it, this cannot be changed, and well anything that comes from within the family cannot be changed. The family itself can control and change our views on society, influence how we view the family unit, and yet most of all impact our everyday choices. The family’s capacity of guidance can make such an abundant shift that can only be felt, and barely visible unless seen through strained eyes, that makes this connection even more inexplicable than love.
Stressors are anything that causes stress. Any event, thought, or situation that cause stress is called a stressor (Feldman, 10). Modern life exposes people to many stressors. Some physical stressors may include natural disasters, illnesses, and noise. More emotional stressors can include certain life experiences, such as death of a loved one or...
