The history of my family is very special to me and I take great pride in knowing where my ancestors came from and what they had to endure. The past generations of both my mothers and my father’s family paved the way I look at life and the way I try to raise my children. I want to start with my mother’s family; the earliest recording I have from the “Schumacher” is from 1784. They left Germany because of bad economics and not enough land to farm so they could provide for their families. They were called “The Danube Swabians” (Donauschawben) who were German speaking populations who lived in various counties of southeastern Europe. My family left Germany for better land and also religious reasons.
They settled in a town called Neu-Pasua in Serbia in the early 1700’s. They lived, worked and had their own German speaking schools in their community’s for over 150 years. They grew from 40 families to over 6000

My great-grandparents on my mother’s side were farmers and my grandfather became a carpenter. One thing I can say about that side of the family is that they were simple people, very quiet and humble. Family was and is very important to them. The obstacles they had to face on their two-year journey from Serbia to Germany brought them closer together and made them realize what is important in life. My great-grandmother Anna Schumacher was the rock of the family, she made sure all her children were kept with her once they arrived in Germany and was put in refugee camps. She loved to cook and to this day her cooking and recipes influences us. Her famous filled bell peppers with tomato sauce as well as Djuvic rice are two dishes that my mother loves and made sure I know how to make just as my great-grandmother thought her to make it. The many generations they spend in Serbia influenced their cooking. To this day my grandfather loves to eat Yugoslavian food and is the Restaurant of his choice for his
The earliest member of the Bohrer Family, of which we can locate on records, was a man named Abraham Bohrer. He was born in Germany on December 14, 1717. He had a wife, Anna Lucy Schuster, and four children all by the name of “John.” They boarded an unidentified immigration boat and docked in Baltimore, Maryland on September 11, 1750. His occupation was a farmer and hoped for a better life and in search for religious freedom. He died on October 12, 1759. He was just 42.
Tacitus's Germania is a thoroughly itemized ethnographic text detailing the geography, climate and social structure of Germany and its people. Unlike his Histories and Annales Tacitus doesn't offer a story line to be followed, but instead, he nudges forth an unspoken comparison to be made between two cultures.

Although I was unable to find much information through talking to my family members I learned a lot through Internet sources. Through all my research I have gained a much greater knowledge of my families background of why and how it came to be in Louisiana. I feel like I will continue to research this even though the paper will be complete; this paper has really sparked my interest about why my family chose to migrate and where in Germany my family came from. I now feel like it important to know your family history. I was surprised to see how little my family could tell me about our history. I always assumed that they would know all of those kinds of things. I actually look forward to being able to tell them the things that I learned while doing this paper.

The actual first stage of the family life cycle is the family of origin experiences. During this phase the main task are building of a solid foundation, and maintaining relationships with parents, siblings, and peers. The family of origin is basically the family you grew up in, which is the center of what shapes who we are. A healthy family of origin exhibits a strong foundation that will be the center piece of that family unit. If effective the family will have a strong sense of togetherness, communication, separateness, and connectedness. This all helps the family to establish healthy boundaries between parents and their children, as well as resolve conflicts in a healthier and productive way. It is stated that when parents exhibit emotions like warmth and caring connections, it tends to promote individuality and
Right next to food, family is the most important thing in Italian culture. My mother was born and raised in Naples, Italy and lived with her mother and three siblings after her father passed away when she was only six years old. My mother and my grandmother had a very close bond, the same bond my mother and I share now. My grandmother was a very hands on type of mom my mother tells me. Like most mothers, her children were her pride and joy. My mother’s most vivid memories of her childhood involve my grandmother teaching her how to make tiramisu and lasagna. Practices my mother has now passed onto me. Aside from the cooking lessons, my mother also taught me what it means to be a women. Being independent, never giving up, and working for what
The unit of a family is the most prominent essential for all of us. As social human beings, we seek social support in order to thrive, and that is where family comes into play. A family is where you receive love, support, encouragement, and many other social benefits. The total number of households in the United States increased from 63 million in 1970 to 113 million in 2008 (Weeks, 2012). The family has influenced multitudes of people in many ways. The traditional family in the United States consists two-married individuals providing care and stability for their biological offspring also know as the nuclear family. However, the term of a true family has ultimately changed over the last 50 years especially for African Americans.
Family, a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. Although family is a concretely defined term, the idea of family varies from person to person. But, what makes a family? For those who are surrounded by loving blood relatives, for those who have never known the one to grant them life, for those who have left their blood behind for a more loving and nurturing environment, what can commonly define a family? Family is something defined by the individual. Family includes those who you have come to love, whether platonically or romantically, those you have suffered with, those you have come to respect, and most importantly those you have cared for and in turn have cared for you. To one that could mean people who
Everyone seems to define family differently, however, the significance of family is the same. For you, family means everything. You can always count on your parents and siblings for help and love. Family is very valuable and important to you and should never be taken for granted. No one can deny that family is the foundation of our generation. A family is where we all start our life journey and helps us grow to be successful throughout our lives.
"The great gift of family life is to be intimately acquainted with people you might never even introduce yourself to, had life not done it for you." -Kendall Hailey. Many people among us think that a family reunion is boring. It is an unpleasant social affair where our parents drive us to go and stay there for a considerable length of time. There are odd individuals who come to us and kiss or embrace us while we are still considering "do I know him/her?”. It is because we believe that enjoying the holiday out with friends is much better than investing hours with the people, we “unfortunately” belong to. They have no other subject for discussion aside from our studies and grades. On the other hand, family gathering is always a new experience for someone who lives far away from his blood relations.
