Theme songs for Fallen Angels

I think there are many wonderful songs that represent the heartbreak and tough times the men in Fallen Angels go through. One of the songs that is my personal favorite is Battle Scars by Lupe Fiasco. The scientist is also a great song by Cold Play and in my opinion goes with the book very well. Another song that I chose was Goodnight Saigon by Billy Joel. It was written around the time of the war and in my opinion fits with this book very well. The final song I chose was Leaving on a Jet Plane by John Denver. I think it does a good job of talking about separating.

The scientist talks about people separating and how hard it is. Coldplay says in their song, "Nobody Said it Was Easy". It's such a shame for us to part nobody said it was easy no one ever said it would be this hard". Even though this song talks more about separating from someone he loves I think it also goes very well with Fallen Angels. Saying that it's such a shame for us to part, is a lot like the book because so many people died, including friends like Jenkins. It says "There was a shard of metal protruding from Jenkin's ches t. The blood gurgled out of the wound it made and sprayed along the concave metallic surface". Things like this were common and happened daily in Vietnam and when the music says "nobody said it would be this hard". The song is about what was happening at the time and how horrible it was. In the song Billy Joel says "We came in spastic like tameless horses we left in plastic as numbered corpses and we learned fast to travel light. Our arms were heavy but our bellies were tight". This goes very well with our book because it talks about men and women being killed and holding on to hope. I like the way he used the words "we left in plastic as numbered corpses" because it shows how bad this was. I also liked how it shows that men and women would come and leave in body bags because so many of them were dying that it felt that
