Technology Controlling Your Life
Ray Bradbury was describing the way humans depend on technology. Human connection is the ability to talk to each other; in Fahrenheit 451, the connection between humans is very slim and pointless. Throughout the book, there are many examples on how reliable the technology is for them and when taken away, has a major effect on these people. The loss of human interaction in Fahrenheit 451 leads to society where nobody thinks for themselves, is seen on the dependence of technology, and creates a false sense of emotions in an uncaring society.
As previously mentioned, the society in Fahrenheit 451 does not think for themselves. This can be mainly seen when Clarisse describes her school. She says, “...but do you know, we never ask questions, or at least most don’t; they just run the answers at you, bing, bing, bing, and us sitting there for four more hours of film teacher.” The society at this young age is just letting the government feed them information; they do not even bother to question it. Mildred also lets her “family” in the parlor walls teach her. The government is feeding them ideas in a way they know society will take in these ideas. In Fahrenheit 451, there are many examples of interactions between humans and their technology and not much interaction with the people. The times they do interact, the ideas or conversations are not significant. Society in Fahrenheit 451 prefers to spend time by themselves and let the government think for them. The important things in their life are the parlor walls and seashells. They prefer not to think and their mentality is to do things quickly and not stop to enjoy, observes or analyze the world around
