Cultures play an extremely important role in our nationality because it determines who we are, what we eat, how we dress, what language we speak and how we behave. These are all the aspects of the cultures that are passed down from generation to generation. However, cultures can also be affected by many other factors. According to Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck’s theory (Kohls 1981), one of the factors that can have an impact on cultures is nature. As explained in Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck’s theory, there are five common human concerns which are the human nature, man-nature relationship, the idea of time, activity, and social relationship with others (Kohls 1981). One of the human concern that shows nature can impact cultures is the man-nature relationship. …show more content…
The natural environment in which a culture is surrounded by will often influence the clothing that is worn. For example, in the Human Planet (2011) deserts episode the Tubu women of the Mali culture will wear long, thin clothing that protects them from the intense sun and heat that is experienced in this environment. This suggests that depending on the physical surrounding that a culture exists in, people may have to adapt their dress code to suit the environmental conditions. Nature also endangers cultures …show more content…
For example, in one of the Human Planet (2011) episode shows how Huli Wigmen of Papua New Guinea dress into a costume where they decorate the costume with bird’s feather so that they can impress and attract the women to get married to the men. They said it is “passed through generations” (Human Planet 2011). This shows us that people learn from their history and past traditions into the future instead of being impacted by nature. Furthermore, the miners of Ijen Crater culture is to work in a volcano so that they can support the whole family. In the episode, it shows us how time sense in the present influences their lifestyle. Miners already knew the consequences of doing this job, which is it
Culture often means an appreciation of the finer things in life; however, culture brings members of a society together. We have a sense of belonging because we share similar beliefs, values, and attitudes about what’s right and wrong. As a result, culture changes as people adapt to their surroundings. According to Bishop Donald, “let it begin with me and my children and grandchildren” (211). Among other things, culture influences what you eat; how you were raised and will raise your own children? If, when, and whom you will marry; how you make and spend money. Truth is culture is adaptive and always changing over time because

In life there are several factors that influence us. May it be with whom we surround ourselves with. But what we may not realize is that our culture or environment may influence us.
Cultures on this planet are infinitely diverse and quite different from each other as well. Many of the customs and rituals that are practiced in the United States are diverse in nature as well, but are similar in more ways to each other than to cultures in other regions of the world. It seems that a great deal of a culture’s core stems from their surrounding environment, and the pressures that this puts on those trying to live there. A culture’s physical and social characteristics are interrelated, and play an important role in the development of a society and the personalities of the people.
Culture has a huge impact on our environment. Humans learn to be ethical through culture and family. For example, the racism culture has been brought up through many generations. If our parents or grandparents have a certain belief towards different kinds of people and you are accustomed to that
Society and culture surround everyone at all times. It helps raise and shape the population into what it is from the moment a person is born to their death. It is a very powerful factor in the world. It can cause hatred and war but it can also cause love and acceptance. It affects our behavior, tolerance, and decisions.
In his essay, “What is Culture?”, Kluckhohn explains the differences and similarities amongst world’s peoples. To support his explanation of the differences and similarities he provides the concept of culture. It is difficult to give this concept a precise definition because the word “culture” is a broad term. Kluckhohn allows the reader to understand the concept of culture by providing examples of cultural differences along with some anthropological evidence to support his views.
Environment is also part of culture. Where one grows up can have many influences on what they think and how they behave. If a person were to live in the mountains, then their perception of cold weather will be different from a person who lives by the beach. Also because...
Shiraev and Levy (2013) define culture as a set of attitudes, behaviors, and symbols shared by a large group of people and usually communicated from one generation to the next (p. 3). Many cultures have traditions and/or customs directly associated with that culture. There are several different approaches to understanding culture – evolutionary, meaning that culture exists to supply basic human needs (Shiraev & Levy, 2013, p. 13); sociological, meaning that culture is shaped and developed by the demands of society (Shiraev & Levy, 2013, p. 14); and ecocultural, meaning culture is fluid and individuals grow and change with the environment and the individuals in which they interact with (Shiraev & Levy, 2013, p. 15). Within this essay I will discuss a culture that I feel I am a part of, a custom of said culture, explain similarities and differences of the cultural approaches and how they pertain to my
So, what about the nurture side of the equation, or the environment that gives us our attitude? Culture is a system of ideas about the nature of the world and how people should behave in it that it shares—and shared uniquely—by members of a community, that continually judges ones actions, hen...
Culture is a broad term. The dictionary definition of culture is "the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group." (2) Any of the social forms or beliefs of a group may influence or in turn be influenced by a new technology. One important aspect of a society's culture is the relationship between human and environment. (3) In this essay, I shall concentrate on how technology interacts with this element of culture, analyzing how particular societies' relationships with their environment gave rise to particular technologies and how those technologies in turn influenced these societies' relationships with their environments.
Culture is the explanation and sophistication attained through education and the revelation to the arts. Culture is not only ethnicity, but also and customs and philosophy. In Culture Learning: The Fifth Dimension on the Language Classroom Damen claims, “Culture is mankind’s primary adaptive mechanism”, to illustrate his personal definition of culture (Maximizing web). Culture can easily be effected by many things such as an idea. For example, Jeremy Bentham was the founder of Utilitarian which is the belief that actions are right if they achieve the happiness of many; numerous people opposed Bentham’s philosophy because minority interests were not included (Cruttenden 86). The culture of a time period can affect the future in many distinguishing ways such as with wonderful works of art, or with advances in technology and science.
The evolution of fashion is an essential work for everyone concerned with designs and costumes for different stages over the period of time. Clothing are a necessity also they are function. The change of garments depends on the weather and fabric
Culture is defined the values , beliefs, behavior, and material objects that, together, form a people’s way of life while instinct can be defined as a biological programing over which animals have no control over, instinct can also be refereed as fixed, biologically inherited, complex human behavior patterns. Culture is a more effective strategy for survival than reliance on instinct because most human behaviors are as a result of social learning rather than instincts. Without culture society will not conform to a particular law.
Culture has a major role shape in our society. Even though some individuals live in the same culture don’t end up with the same characteristics. Many things in culture can affect our society. For example the music we listen to, the clothes we wear the places we go to, government and many more. Another related issue I see now in days is how we are to follow any example that is established from popular culture, like the media. It just seems very strange and odd to me that whoever controls the media industry has so much control over people 's actions. People are influenced by their culture. Another example is the clothes we wear. We feel that we need to wear the best clothes and become very materialism and that’s because we are being drove by
