Factors Associated with Divorce
Research shows there are 4 major factors that increase the likelihood of divorce
A. Divorce Caused By Age At Marriage
1. As age when married decreases, likelihood of divorce increases
- Couples under the age of 18 are much more likely to divorce than couples
who marry at any later age
2. Younger Couples Are:
- Unprepared for marriage
- Unaware of what is expected of them
- Not mature enough to handle responsibilities
3. Drawbacks
- The younger you are the less dating experience you’ve had
- Not sure what you really value in a partner
- Being young they may get bored and prefer a new marriage as opposed to
their current one
- Young couples have few reasons not to divorce
- May have married without parents permission, so divorce may be
supported by family
- Likely do not have property together
4. Marrying due to pregnancy
- Having a child before or early in marriage
- Gives couple little time to adjust to each other and demands of marriage
- May limit the parents’ educational and occupational goals
- Increases financial strain on relationship
B. Race
1. Studies show African Americans have higher divorce rates than Whites or Latinos
- African Americans also much more likely to remain in a “separated” status
- Their greater likelihood of being unemployed and living in poverty
contribute to marital disruption
2. African American women are:
- Less likely to marry
- More likely to separate or divorce
- Less likely to remarry
On average African American women spend only about half the amount of
time white women spend in marriage.
C. Socioeconomic Status
1. Lower socioeconomic strata of society:
- Lower levels of education, Lower incomes, Lower-status occupations
- Higher marital instability rates
Poor families are twice as likely to breakup as nonpoor families.
- Lower-status married couples may have higher divorce rates because they
Now for the same number of people, there are over five divorces. Studies indicate that there is more divorce among persons with low incomes and limited education and those who marry at a very young age. Teenage marriages are much more likely to end in divorce than are all other marriages. And women who marry when they are over age 30 are the least likely to become divorced. There has been a decline in divorce in the number of couples who have children under 18.
However, this is not the only societal structure that can be observed to have an impact on divorce. The
Indoor tanning is becoming a very popular “hobby”, but most people do not know, or do not care, about its dangerous side effects. Studies show that people who use tanning booths have a much higher chance of being diagnosed with skin cancer. If someone were to start tanning indoors before they turn 30 or 25, the risk of them getting Melanoma peaks, and if they start tanning before they turn 20 or 25, they are much more likely to get basal and squamous cancer.
The social desirability of a tan is a modern phenomenon, beginning in the 1920’s when the French designer Coco Chanel decreed it as a fashion look. The concept of obtaining a tan without going outdoors became increasingly attractive (Aldige). Today’s media influences everyone, but especially young people, to feel like they need to have that beautiful dark skin color to look good. Teenagers, caring more about their social status and appearance, are looking past the obvious risks of skin cancer. Teenagers ages 12 to 17 are visiting tanning salons in record numbers. This trend presents a huge level of concern, as studies have shown that the risk for skin cancer increases when tanning begins at a younger age. With this fad being so popular, teens are always finding themselves at the tanning salons, becoming nice and crispy.
Natalie was 24 and had an itchy oddly shaped mole. She then went to get it checked out, and came to find she had melanoma. Natalie had to undergo 3 hours of surgery. “Tanning beds give you a 59% chance of skin cancer” Indoor tanning has bad effects on people because it increases your chance of skin cancer and the effects it has on skin appearance.
Many people strive to have beautiful, flawless, and tanned skin. In order to get that desired even bronzed glow year round, many people partake in the use of tanning beds, and tanning salons in communities throughout the country. Over the years, indoor tanning use has increasingly become more and more popular among adolescents and young adults. Tanning beds are equipped with special lightbulbs that emit ultraviolet, or UV, rays. These UV rays much like exposure to the sun, can harm the various layers of the skin. In a recent observation, it has been discovered that tanning beds cause what can be potentially severe health problems. Indoor tanning is dangerous because of the increased risk of multiple health problems, not the least of which is
Some of these may marry and not know what their new husband or wife is like.

In truth, the divorce rate in couples that decide to “shack up” before marriage has more to do with age at the time they began bunking
Ethics is so important in business because it gives a company credibility. When a company has credibility the consumers trust the company and will tend to buy from the company more regularly. Employees become loyal and are motivated to drive the business forward. According to Schermerhorn (2004), “an individual that feels secure in a working environment can move on to being more focused on an organization’s goal.” Creditors and investors show their commitment and confidence by funding company development and consumer confidence is positive. Ethical business practices build fundamentals of trust with colleagues, competitors, staff, customers and every other individual and entity. The result of an unethical practices can be declining profits and a loss of market share. However, ethics are cultural specific. “What it is considered ethical in one culture may be considered unethical in another (Chiu,
Fossil fuels are known as non-renewable resources; the amount in the Earth is limited. On the other hand, renewable sources of energy, like solar and wind, are those that will not be depleted despite their continued use. However, solar energy is difficult to harness and wind energy is not very efficient. The clear choice of renewable energy is water. The Earth has plenty of water to use for power. After all, it is because of its great quantity of water that Earth is nicknamed the “blue planet.” Hydropower is entirely renewable because it is driven by the natural Water Cycle. Lakes and rivers that are used for hydropower will not simply run out because they are constantly being refilled by rainwater. In addition to being renewable, hydropower is superior to other energy sources because it is completely clean of carbon emissions. Once fully functional, dams power themselves and give off no excess gases. Power plants burn coal and pour unthinkable amounts of greenhouse gases into air. Hydroelectric power is a clean, renewable source of
Many people see suicide in many different ways. Two of the most common ways that I see suicide viewed as are from either the people that have wanted to, tried to, or came close to committing suicide; the other view are from those who are strictly against suicide. The people who are against suicide say many things that are not true. They say suicide is weakness. Suicide is a person who wants attention. Suicide is when a person feels sorry for themselves. While on the other hand people who have tried, wanted to, and do commit suicide. Suicide to them is a way out. Suicide is the way out of the darkness. Suicide is a way out of the misery and pain that they feel. Suicide is the end of all pain.
There are as many theories on this issue as there are people offering them. The usual explanations are communication, compromise, and commitment, and it’s hard to disagree with them.
Suicide is one of the most common death around the world. Life is just taking away very easy by someone or yourself. We have study the causes of someone killing themselves, but our human behavior can easy change and eventually make that deciduous. The causes and effects of suicide are depression, the past meaning your life before, and feeling unloved or lonely. The effects are the people that loved you are going to be depress, never reach those goals that you set for yourself, and people that loved you will feel the guilt.
I’ve never been suicidal but many factors in my life have shown me why it may be someone’s last resort. The stress of school, exams, friends and the difficult impacts on one’s life such as a death of a loved one, and dealing with struggles of depression are all factors that can lead one to commit suicide. My opinion on suicide is that it is not selfish and it is not a sin but it is not always the right choice. It is most definitely a personal choice and I believe that individuals don’t make that choice lightly but there are many factors that go into that choice. Not everyone is as fortunate to grow up with loving parents, or have a house over their head. Not everyone is accepted and treated like everyone else is and most of the time people don’t realize that someone has dealt with more than you. I don’t believe suicide is ever the answer, although I can see both sides. I believe that if we made a difference in society through talking about suicide, that suicide wouldn’t be the issue that it is
