FIFA has been around for years, and has accomplished many things for the game of soccer. It still continues to accomplish great things.. The interesting history states many accomplishments the presidents have made, and show how dedicated they were to their work.
In Paris, France on May 21, 1904, Federation Internationale de Football Association, or FIFA, was created. The goal of this organization was to hold championship soccer matches between professional teams from different countries, and to make improvements for the game of soccer. Since May 21, 1904, FIFA has been served by eight presidents: Robert Guerin, Daniel Burley Woolfall, Jules Rimet, Rodolphe William Seeldrayers, Arthur Drewry, Sir Stanley Rous, Joao Havelange, and Joseph S. Blatter. The current president is Blatter, and he has been serving since 1998.
In 1904, the Foundation Act for FIFA was signed in Paris by a team of representatives. These representatives came from Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, and France. Just two days after this signing, the first FIFA president was elected – Robert Guerin. Victor E. Schneider, and Carl Anton Wilhelm Hirschmann were made Vice Presidents, and Louis Muhkinghaus and Ludvig Sylow were made Secretary and Treasurer.
On April 14, 1905 England joined FIFA. Then in 1909 South Africa, Argentina, and Chile joined. In 1910, the U.S. and Canada joined. In 1930, the first World Cup FIFA held was in Uruguay with 13 teams. During World War I, a lot of the players were sent off to the war. ...ph S. Blatter was born in 1936. He was elected as president on June 8, 1998. When younger, he was a soccer player himself. He served FIFA for 23 years before this. In 1975, Blatter joined FIFA as Director of Technical Programmes. He helped lay the groundwork for future under-age and women’s competitions. He served as General Secretary for nine years as CEO. Blatter helped organize 5 FIFA World Cups, and helped FIFA grow a partnership with SOS Children’s Villages. He also formed a partnership with UNICEF. Blatter not only did all of this, but he also introduced world championships for Beach Soccer, and Futsal and developed FIFA Club World Cup. Blatter maintained the policy of using football to aid the development of developing countries by promising the World Cup of 2010 to Africa. FIFA is now a massive corporate body whose actions have a political and global impact.
