While working on the farms they would be sprayed with pesticides. The farm owners did not care at all for these people, only for their crops. They would work long hours without rest and little to no access to water or restrooms. All the workers would share drinking water by passing around a can and everyone would drink from there. Women had it more difficult because restrooms were not available, “it would be embarrassing, extremely humiliating,” as union co-founder, Dolores Huerta, described it in the video. This mistreatment kept going for years, some workers even said that it felt like slavery. In 1962 the National Farm Workers Association was created in Delano California to protest against all the farm owners that took advantage of the migrant workers. The founder of this association was a farmer named Cesar Chavez. He gathered farmers of all cultures to launch a strike that would hopefully undo all of these injustices that the workers had to go through. The farmers began their strike walking and yelling “Huelga” on the roads alongside the farms. This strike lasted two years but
The National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People and National Urban League, founded in 1909 and 1910 respectively, were established to serve the growing needs and pressing concerns of African-Americans at the time. The issues were basically of integration and equality. The period of Reconstruction had seen constitutional reform but proper interpretation and implementation was still unrealized. By the late 1800s the southern states were again led by white supremacist interests and segregation was comprehensive and legal: the Jim Crow system.
From the expanding of railroads country wide, to limiting laws on the goods farmers sold and transportation of the goods,to starvation of the economy, agriculture began to take its own shape from 1865 through to 1900 in the United States.
When Chavez became a full time worker, he was exposed to the hardships of a farm workers life. This sprang his dream of helping other farm laborers that were like him. On his birthday, March 31st 1962 he founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later became known as the United Farm Workers of America. It started off with 10 people in the group, him, his wife, and his eight children but soon he started ...
This also showed that they also believed farm workers should be treated with more respect and dignity. This association did not just help its members gain more rights, but it also helped navigate social services and government agencies. Later, members of the NFWA could participate in a funeral burial program, a farm workers credit union, and the union. The NFWA, being one of the most active, have gained all these rights and privileges through its hard work and dedication. Leading pilgrimages, strikes, boycotts and fasts, helped to gain better fair medical coverage, better working conditions, higher wages, and workable
In 1919, farmers from thirty states, including Missouri, saw a need. They gathered in Chicago and formed the American Farm Bureau Federation. In 1919, they had one goal, they wanted to speak for themselves with the help of their own national organization. Since 1919, Farm Bureau has operated by a philosophy that states: “analyze the problem of farmers and develop a plan of action for these problems” (Missouri). In the past 94 years, the A...

Farmers were burned out rapidly from declining farm prices, high tariffs on items they need to purchase, and foreign competition. Farmers also faced overproduction when their products in the market drove the price lower and lower. Farmers were paying inflated prices but not receiving money. Gold v Silver as basis of U.S currency poured real difficulties for farmers. In 1890 several organizations made a national alliance that had 2.5 million members participating 1.5 million individuals were white and 1 million were black. All these organizations wanted regulation of railroad prices and the creation of an inflationary national monetary policy. Wanted a sub treasury plan, plan that the federal government would store famers crops in government warehouses for a period of time and provide loans to farmers worth 80% of current crop prices. The plan would also give government officials control over railroads, end bank system, creation of federal income tax, direct elections of U.S senators, more proactive government that would support economic and social welfare of all Americans. The National Honor Society is a very prestigious organization that I would love to be a part of. It was an honor to be nominated as a candidate. I am currently a sophomore in high school, and I have always wanted to be a member of the National Honor Society. As I look back over the years and think of the times I have attended the ceremonies and saw all the awards the members received, I recall saying to myself “That’s going to be me one day.”. I asked my teachers about all the requirements that had to be met to be a National Honor Society member and I made it my main goal to meet each and every one.
The National Farm Association was co-founded by Cesar Chavez and Gil Padilla. The main purpose of this association was to seek and enforce Mexican-American labor laws. Such as reasonable work hours and pay an individual receives. To get their message across, many formed marches, boycotts, and strikes. With these forms of expression, people started to hear the voices of those wanting a change in El Movimiento.

Games similar to soccer were played in China as early as 400 B.C. In 200 A.D. the Romans played a game in which 2 teams tried to score by advancing the ball across a line on a field, which means no soccer goals. They passed the ball to one another, but not by kicking it. Also in the 1100's, London children played a form of soccer (World Book Encyclopedia, S p.73).

Football is a full contact sport that millions of fans watch every season even though it is not a worldwide sport yet. Baseball may be America’s past time but football is America’s obsession. It is played on a field but the athletes seem more like gladiators fighting for blood in the arena for the amusement of their fans. The sport has changed drastically over the years into an event unlike any other, from gaining fans to implementing new rules and regulations in order to keep players safe.
