Excited people all around the world listened to the greatest pump up song of the 80s, but the catchy beat that drove the song up the leaderboards had some help. The lyrics that described someone persevering through a battle created a relatable topic for many individuals. It pinned an underdog against a strong rival through the described images. However, the descriptions could also thank the words that scripted a classic together. The Eye of the Tiger creates the theme to never give up and to always work hard through its diction and imagery. Often people are not what they seem. According to Roald Dahl, in “Lamb to the Slaughter,” “But there needn’t really be any fuss. I hope not anyway. It wouldn’t be very good for my job.” When in public Patrick Maloney was the doting husband, but when the doors hid outside eyes Patrick revealed his true feelings. He wanted a divorce. He wanted to ruin his wife and soon-to-be child, but without anyone knowing. Thought the passage, the tone is revealed as condescending. The way Mr. Maloney talks to his wife is as though she is a small and unknowing child.
Media such as movies, video games and television, in general, are all created to support some form of social context. This helps with generating popularity because people are able to relate to the form of media. In Greg Smith’s book What Media Classes Really Want to Discuss, he describes 6 different representational strategies that justifies people’s way of thinking. The trope that I will be amplifying is the white savior tactic. In addition, I will connect this strategy to the movie The Blind Side. In the book Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer wrote about Christopher McCandless, a nature lover in search for independence, in a mysterious and hopeful experience. Even though Krakauer tells us McCandless was going to die from the beginning, he still gave him a chance for survival. As a reader I wanted McCandless to survive. In Into the Wild, Krakauer gave McCandless a unique perspective. He was a smart and unique person that wanted to be completely free from society. Krakauer included comments from people that said McCandless was crazy, and his death was his own mistake. However, Krakauer is able to make him seem like a brave person. The connections between other hikers and himself helped in the explanation of McCandless’s rational actions. Krakauer is able to make McCandless look like a normal person, but unique from this generation. In order for Krakauer to make Christopher McCandless not look like a crazy person, but a special person, I will analyze the persuading style that Krakauer used in Into the Wild that made us believe McCandless was a regular young adult.
The Letter from Birmingham Jail was written by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in April of 1963. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was one of several civil rights activists who were arrested in Birmingham Alabama, after protesting against racial injustices in Alabama. Dr. King wrote this letter in response to a statement titled A Call for Unity, which was published on Good Friday by eight of his fellow clergymen from Alabama. Dr. King uses his letter to eloquently refute the article. In the letter dr. king uses many vivid logos, ethos, and pathos to get his point across. Dr. King writes things in his letter that if any other person even dared to write the people would consider them crazy.
The narrators in both stories were faced with copious challenges. But antithetically, the narrators both meet these challenges in completely different ways. While Brown confronted his challenges with despair and pessimism, the narrator from the Pit and the Pendulum faced his trials with optimism and bravery, which in the end gave him hope. From this one can say that an optimistic outlook and the will to fight are necessities in the great battle of life.
In the novel The Stranger by Albert Camus, the narrator’s monotonous tone makes the reader experience a lack of emotion and feeling. The novel starts off describing Mersault’s current job and how he must go on leave in order to attend his mother’s funeral. He and his mother have been disconnected for some time as they had come to a mutual agreement with her staying in an elderly home. Mersault, the main protagonist, did not have the money or time to tend to his mother. The elderly home was the best option for the both of them. When he returns home from the funeral, Mersault gets caught up in external affairs he should not be in. Pollan’s article provides a solid base to the conversation, defining what to do in order to eat healthy. Holding this concept of eating healthy, Joe Pinsker in “Why So Many Rich Kids Come to Enjoy the Taste of Healthier Foods” enters into the conversation and questions the connection of difference in families’ income and how healthy children eat (129-132). He argues that how much families earn largely affect how healthy children eat — income is one of the most important factors preventing people from eating healthy (129-132). In his article, Pinsker utilizes a study done by Caitlin Daniel to illustrate that level of income does affect children’s diet (130). The movie trailer “Rio 2”, shows a great deal of pathos, ethos, and logos. These rhetorical appeals are hidden throughout the movie trailer; however, they can be recognized if paying attention to the details and montage of the video. I am attracted to this type of movies due to the positive life messages and the innocent, but funny personifications from the characters; therefore, the following rhetorical analysis will give a brief explanation of the scenes, point out the characteristics of persuasive appeals and how people can be easily persuaded by using this technique, and my own interpretation of the message presented in the trailer.
“The Child By Tiger” inlays a sense of good with evil tailing it as its shadow. In the beginning, Blake’s stanza questions “…who could frame thy fearful symmetry?” Dick Prosser appears to be kind and moral, but later reveals his vengeful side as he chaotically kills people. His conflicts with society inspire the evil to spring forward and divulge himself. The reference to “tiger!” in Blake’s stanza indirectly relates to the fact that Prosser is referred to as a cat through Wolfe’s story. Prosser’s evil self is illustrated as stealthily and smartly stalking his prey; pretending to be the same amongst the others. This evil, Prosser himself, exhibits tendencies of moral goodness as he tries to suppress his situational conflict. Evil stalks a prey smartly; it takes notice of every slight move, and every attempt to through it off fails because it always lands back on its feet.

These are the words people think of when they hear the phrase “eye of the tiger.” The majority of society knows this phrase intrinsically, even though its origin dates back over 30 years. My uncle is no exception, as he said that the song “Eye of the Tiger” by American rock band Survivor was a critical part of his youth. The “Eye of the Tiger” was released in 1982 and was also the theme song for the film Rocky III. The song was written by Survivor guitarist Frankie Sullivan and keyboardist Jim Peterik at the request of Sylvester Stallone himself. The scene Stallone requested the song for was originally supposed to go with the song “Another one Bites the Dust” by Queen, but there was an issue acquiring publishing rights.
Jonathan Kozol revealed the early period’s situation of education in American schools in his article Savage Inequalities. It seems like during that period, the inequality existed everywhere and no one had the ability to change it; however, Kozol tried his best to turn around this situation and keep track of all he saw. In the article, he used rhetorical strategies effectively to describe what he saw in that situation, such as pathos, logos and ethos.

The “Eye of a Tiger” is the best song to represent Ed’s life because the way the song is presented, it is exciting and it is fast pace. Ed’s life is very hectic and things happen at a fast pace in his life just like the song itself. “Rising up, back on the street did my time took my chances” represents how he makes himself get up everyday to do these “missions” he was given by an anonymous person who seems to know anything and everything he does. “It doesn’t take me long to focus on the job at hand. This is the only night I can carry out my plan.
William Blake's “The Tyger” beautifully explores the nature of the rather deadly tiger and, arguably, the even deadlier, immortal hands in its genesis. The misspelling of the beast is rather odd, but it can be argued that it induces a sort of confusion and dissymmetry— a confusion and dissymmetry that Blake feels whilst gazing upon the tiger, perpetually asking more and more answerless questions—a repetition that is most dramatic. For instance, upon gasping at the tiger’s glowing eyes, he questions what type of intelligence could be behind such a “fearful symmetry.” He compares this timeless intelligence to a blacksmith pounding away with anvils and hammers in his shop. Oddly enough, the rhythm of the poem follows a repeating “pounding.”
