In this modern business world that utilizes multitudes of technologies from powerful computers to hand held smart phones, one company has managed to secure it position. Google is now a household name in many parts of the world. The success that Google has enjoyed the past decade was not the result of pure luck. Rather it was a well organized business endeavor that incorporated sound business principles planning, organizing, leading, and controlling and timely quality products. In a number of ways Google is a benchmark company in regards to Technology, Innovation, Globalization, Diversity and Ethics. Google is a great modal of a modern technology company producing the software tools and toy that the world desires.
Technology and Innovation
Since its beginning in 1996, Google has always in the forefront with technology and innovation. Founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, collaborated on an idea that would amaze their peers and the world (Google history, 2010, figure 2). Larry and Sergey were faced with internal and external forces that would propel and inhibit the invention of Google. Their plan was to develop a search engine that their fellow college students could access for information. They were able to organize their thoughts and pool their talents to start formatting and formulating the search engine. One of the external forces that very quickly became a problem was that Google had outgrown the bandwidth it was using, and they had to find more room.

A business can either take a step forward or a step back depending on the external and internal influences and how they handle them, they can either flourish or enter stages of degradation and cessation. External and internal influences on a businesses plays a part in the opportunities that arise in the industry the business operates in, otherwise the business may choose to venture out of it’s defined industry depending on the opportunities at hand. Businesses are affected by internal and external influences to a degree where they are either benefiting or suffering from the way they handle opportunities that arise. Google is the largest search engine across the globe, which has significantly transformed the use of the Internet as an information source. The influence of Google in Internet use as information source is evident in the fact that by June 2010, it accounted for more than 70 percent of total Internet searches in America. In addition to its success and profitability in the global market, Google is renowned as a highly ethical company as demonstrated in its corporate philosophy features. However, the firm’s behavior during the launch of its China-based search engine in 2006 generated huge skepticism from the United States government and several human rights organizations (Baker & Tang, p.2). Since the launch of Google’s Chinese search engine, the company complied with China’s censorship regulations by deciding to filter out terms that are considered politically sensitive. This decision attracted criticism from political leaders and human rights activists who accused Google of betraying its adopted ethical standards by ignoring the essence of freedom of expression and information access. As a result, Google faced a dilemma involving the clash between law and ethics. In the subsequent years, Google reacted to the dilemma by changing its rhetoric strategies in efforts to respond to the changing needs.

Google Inc. is a company that started in 2002 and has gradually grown to become an international technology company.
