Helping students to learn and grow is a foundational belief of what I will strive to accomplish as a teacher. Every single student has their own individual talents and strengths and I plan to cultivate these strengths to help students become the best they can be. As every student’s learning is extremely important to me, I believe in providing an engaging and welcoming learning environment which students truly enjoy. This will always be a safe and positive environment for all students. My teaching strategies include elements of clarity, variability, enthusiasm, and opportunities to learn and discover. These are essential components I possess and will continually work to improve as an educator.
As an agricultural teacher, I find it imperative to follow the agricultural education model which includes; classroom instruction, Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) and FFA, as integrated components in my classroom. My curriculum includes all elements of the agricultural model and students are expected to participate in all areas of the model. Every student will have an individual project (SAE), and they will participate in two FFA events. If they choose not to follow these guidelines, they will be graded accordingly. I believe that agriculture education is the premiere education for students because; it promotes premier leadership, personal growth and career success. In order to ensure that every student has been pushed to their maximum potential, I will follow the model and promote FFA as an inter-curriculum activity. I am a teacher who provides alternative assessments, and allow students to work within their natural multiple intelligences to prove they understand the lessons. I am passionate about what I teach, and by teaching agriculture, I believe that I am helping to sustain this vital industry and preparing our future to take hold of that very important role. Although not all students may become employed in the agriculture industry, I believe that the knowledge that they will leave with will help them to be more responsible and informed citizens of their communities and country. It is my strong belief that each child is entitled to a safe, secure, stimulating and caring learning environment. I always believed that each child is a unique individual with much curiosity and many academic, social and emotional needs. Children need our support in order to mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. As a teacher, one should aim to help students in fulfilling their dreams to become successful and educated individuals. We must provide them with a safe learning environment for their learning to succeed.
My most basic, fundamental belief in education has always been that every student is capable of learning. The learning may not take place on my desired timeline, but each child has the capacity to learn. I have always considered myself to be child-centered, rather that teacher-centered, in the classroom. I hold that most learning is accomplished when new information can be integrated into previous knowledge, and I also find that a balanced approach to any learning includes the repetition of information and a varied approach in delivery.
I used to naïvely believe that agriscience education was important to the betterment of society, but now I know that it is absolutely essential. I now know that it is imperative for young people to know the skills that I plainly took for granted and just thought that it was common knowledge due to my background on a farm. My favorite quote is by Joe Martin and although it focuses on The National FFA Organization, I believe that it perfectly encompasses the industry as a whole. It reads, “The organization has grown to be more than cows, sows and plows; the modern FFA is about beakers, speakers and job seekers.” Through this quote, we see how far agriculture has come since the turn of the century, which means that agriscience education has had to come just as far. Within the teacher’s responsibilities a strong foundation of instruction has to be implemented, this is why instructional strategies are significant in a teacher’s career. The strategies for instruction vary from teacher to teacher; as a result there are no specific ways to employ strategies within instruction. The main purpose of this essay is to display knowledge of methods that are involved in teaching second language instruction for various ages and levels of students. In May of 2010 a group of students dressed in blue corduroy jackets came to Athens Christian School to visit during a chapel service. Georgia FFA state officers, Cain and Filipe, spoke about the endless possibilities one could enjoy while in an organization called FFA. These state officers spoke with confidence and excitement as they talked about agriculture playing a vital role in the lives of students. One major concept they spoke about was how in order to be in FFA one has to be enrolled in an agriculture education course. The following year Athens Christian School had a new agriculture education program with Mrs. Sara Hughes teaching the middle school and high school classes. She is still a current asset in this program, and her hard work is very evident. Mrs. Hughes will be quick to tell anyone that although a career in agriculture education is challenging the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.
Education is a very important aspect of our lives. It is our education that makes us who we are and determines what we become. Therefore, education is not something to be taken lightly. As a teacher, my goal will be to provide the best possible education for my students. Every student is unique. I must see students for who they are individually and respect their ideas and opinions. Each student has a different learning style. I must take this into consideration because I want to provide a constructive learning opportunity for every student. I believe that every student has the potential to learn.
We need to reach people and communicate and this is something that an agricultural educator should be capable of doing. Agriculture impacts everyone, every day whether they realize it or not. Agricultural Education is not restricted to one age group or one area. Education can occur at any age and any stage of education so therefore we have to be able to adapt to cater to our audience. It is also not restricted to a teacher in agriculture. An agricultural educator can be anybody from someone who works in the industry communicating with a co-worker or a student talking to someone on the bus about agriculture. Even an educator in agriculture can learn something new from another educator.

When a teacher is successful, their students are motivated, mutually respectful and ready to build on their knowledge and solve real-world problems. To be a teacher of value, one must have many skills and qualities to cater for a diversity of learners and their individual development; this includes many personal traits that are noticed students.
When thinking of a philosophy of teaching, four major issues need to be considered. Those issues are one’s views on education, the role of the teacher, teaching and learning, and on the children. This is something that someone entering the teaching profession needs to give serious thought to and realize the importance that this will hold in the future. In order for learning to take place in the classroom the teacher has to put in place an effective teaching and learning strategy. Being an effective teacher is not something that can be achieved instantaneously but rather something that has to be continuously developed and improved upon over time. Petty mentions how good teachers are not born but rather make themselves and that effective teaching comes from learning from your mistakes and successes. Petty, p. 516, 2009. This process involves teacher reflection and assessment of the effectiveness of different teaching strategies used in the classroom. It is only then that teachers can learn and advance themselves.
Teaching is a daunting task that I do not intend to take lightly. Becoming a teacher has been a dream of mine for several years. I always knew that teaching would be the career for me, especially when I began working in the school system as a substitute secretary. I loved working in the school environment; coming in contact with children everyday made me realize how much I would enjoy teaching a classroom full of students.
