The renaissance was like the air we breathe, it touched every facet of European life, and influenced the spread of education, the arts, from the past Greco Roman culture era to the present renaissance period, and it had enormous impact on Europe. The birthplace of the renaissance era affected European history between, (1300-1600), and the revival of classical humanism spread from its birthplace in Italy throughout Western Europe. Humanism was the belief that people could live without religion, it was amazing for that time, the thought of people pulling away from the dominate religions. In addition, it was the belief that people could live by using their intelligence and reason instead of depending on a God or a religion. “Patriarch,” referred to as the father of Humanism, provided the layout or format of the renaissance period through scholarship and education “classical humanism,” was the movement to recover and revive Greco Roman culture. This was the pursuit to reestablish what ancient Romans had called (studia) humanitatis, which was a program of study that embraced grammar, rhetoric, history, poetry, and moral philosophy. In addition to the arts, the period produced some of the greatest artists, such as Raphael, Brunelleschi, Verrocchio, and the notable Michelangelo, and Leonardo De Vinci. Artists began to encompass the natural world in their work, the result a unique and sophisticated body of art, which produced new standards, for most of the paintings, sculptures, and architecture in the west.

In Korea, the students start school in the morning session for eight hours, and then attend evening session for another eight hours, constituting a minimum of 16 hours daily. In Iceland, it is not the amount of hours the students attends, it is based on the quality, and passion of the instructors that teach, Iceland’s system seems to be outpacing all other systems of education worldwide. One thing the 500 cable channels of entertainment, certainly are not doing wonders for our system of education. Time will tell how America stacks up against these other systems, I would love to see a new push for a cross educational system, where the masses were excited in learning “everything”.

The shift between the Middle Ages and Renaissance was documented in art for future generations. It is because of the changes in art during this time that art historians today understand the historical placement and the socio-economic, political, and religious changes of the time. Art is a visual interpretation of one’s beliefs and way of life; it is through the art from these periods that we today understand exactly what was taking place and why it was happening. These shifts did not happen overnight, but instead changed gradually though years and years of art, and it is through them that we have record of some of the most important changes of historic times.

Humanism had a great impact on the Italian Renaissance, but the Italian Renaissance was a rediscovery of what the Greeks and Romans did way before. Different types of artist like architects, sculptor and painters wanted to create art but they wanted to Christianize it so they could spread their religion and ideas. The Renaissance was the rebirth of Europe and it all started in the city of Florence. Florence and everything that made a standard Renaissance city: painters, sculptors, writers, architects, and a vivid culture. Soon all of Europe would follow in Florence’s footsteps and “the setting is so rich, varied, rambunctious, and inventive as Italy in the Renaissance” (Cohen 1). The painters and sculptors defined Renaissance culture and could actually make a living because they were being sponsored.
The Italian Renaissance included some of the greatest artists we have ever seen from Leonard Da Vinci, to Michelangelo, and Raphael. The Renaissance took place from the late thirteenth to sixteenth centuries and is know as the ‘rebirth’. The idea that the rebirth of the arts after being asleep for a thousand years is an amazing thing to grasp. This time brought back light to liberal arts, which were on the brink of being extinct. (Murray 2) What is also interesting about art during this time was that most of the art had Christian in its roots, for example, Botticelli’s The Allegory of Spring (Faure 1) is said to have had a Christian interpretation. (Murray) “Every Italian artist, willingly took the title of architect, sculptor, and painter” (Faure 2). At the beginning of the fifteenth century, the Italian painters had asked the Flemish painters for their secret techniques because the Italians felt like the language of painting was one that was always meant for them. (Faure 4) The sculptors claimed their inspiration from ancient works. Lastly the Renaissance introduced idea of individualism, which helped the Italians get away from everything that was going on during that time. Art during the Renaissance included painting, sculpting and architecture, all of which were an important part in expressing the idea of individualism and making art what is is today.
The Renaissance was more an era of literature and poetry than of the visual arts. The artistic creation was inspired by Greek mythologies and philosophies. Most intellectuals embraced the concept of humanism, which stressed the importance of human dignity and emphasis off of theology and logic, to human studies. Dr. Cheney states, “The universal man contained within himself knowledge and all the skills of the various arts, from grammar, rhetoric, and philosophy, to art, music, poetry, and architecture. It is from the uomo universale that we get our expression, "Renaissance man." This shows how people of the Renaissance shifted there knowledge and began new skills for activities more ideal to them. The most accomplished works of literature were in the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras.
The Renaissance was a time when people began to think and see things differently. It was a time for new innovations. People wanted to study the past and learn more about culture. The re-introduction of individualism in the Renaissance, from 1400 to 1700, brought to people a sense of opportunity to depict their emotions and opinions through art and religion. One’s abilities, overall character, uniqueness, and intellectual and creative power were realized and acknowledged through individualism instead of the former melding into the communal whole of the Roman Catholic Church (“Individualism”).
