Explain Why The Cold War Began Essay

One country slowly destroys the trust from the other country leading both to grow afraid. Both fearful of each other not trusting one another slowly prepared themselves to be able to protect themselves if they were attacked one day. This was what lead to the beginning of The Cold War. The Cold War was "fought" by the U.S. and the Soviet Union, but they never actually physically fought. Both countries were afraid that the other would attack so they would threat each other just to create fear. Three most important reasons why the war was started because the U.S. wanted to prevent the spread of communism, both countries were scared of each other, and massive arms race. This is how the Cold War was "fought" and the effect of WWII.

The most important reason as to why the Cold War begin was due to the U.S. trying to stop communism. Communism is a belief where everyone shares their

things with each other which was what the Soviet Union was in favor for, but the U.S. was in the belief of capitalism. President Truman created the Truman Doctrine which made it that no matter what they would stop the expansion of communism all over the world. They would send money and military aid to any location that was in threat of a communist government. The U.S. foreign policy known as containment believed that because the Soviet Union was communist they would try to expand, so they used military and economic actions to stop Soviet Expansion. The Truman Doctrine gave Greece a great amount of money when they were in threat of communism which this prevented the communist government which is an example of how the Truman Doctrine worked. All these events were created in fear from the U.S. from communism being expanded by the Soviets.The U.S. at this point was doing everything they were able to, to stop the Soviet Union.
Fear from both sides was growing and caused both sides to create a variety of different organizations or schemes they could set up as a solution. The U.S. had kept creating many solutions to try and get rid of all communist, an example of this is the Marshall Plan. The Marshall Plan was created which was that the U.S. provided food and necessities to any countries that were struggling. Both Truman Doctrine and Marshall Plan aided countries that were friendly to the United States. Another example of an organization in favor of capitalism was the NATO. The NATO was an organization that opposed the Soviet expansion in Europe. Also, the U.S. was blocked from entering into Berlin, so they Berlin Airlift was started. The Berlin Airlift sent supplies to the sections of Berlin controlled by the United States. The Soviets were not happy, but Americans began airlifting machinery and fuel to Berlin. Lastly, countries created alliances with each other in case of war they would have someone as their back up. These were all created because both Soviet Union and the U.S. were becoming afraid of each other.
The war was not getting any better as they started sending threats to each other.

They would send threats to each other saying they would do something even better than what they would do, but never actually did any actual fighting. Let's say that one of them created a weapon, then as the word was out and the others heard, they would immediately improve that weapon to make it more effective than the one the other side has. An example of this is when the U.S. discovered that a hydrogen bomb was more effective than the nuclear bomb dropped on Japan. The U.S. then created a hydrogen bomb in case of any attack. The Soviets found out so then they created a bomb that was way more effective than the one that the U.S. had already created. All the "fighting" that ever did happen during the Cold War was the Soviet Union and the U.S. trying to become better or improve on the best inventions that they had to show they were stronger. Mostly, the Cold War was being fought off of fear, the U.S.,feared the spread of communism and the Soviet Union had feared any attack or something that could weaken

them.
In conclusion, the Cold Warmwas mainly just threats going back and forth on both sides due to the fears of both the U.S. and the Soviet Union. The Cold War begun when the U.S. was trying to completely get rid of communist governments, both sides were afraid of one another, and the massive arms race between them. Compare this to real life situations, when people are afraid many people try anything to make themselves become stronger and to scare others, but when doing things this way, things between them do not get any better. Most likely the problem grows and becomes worse and worse each time and nothing ever gets done. Do not ever do things this way, just move forward and figure things out before the problem becomes even worse.
