There are many different opinions to what it means to be human. Not one human can explain what it means to be human for all the other humans in the world, because that person is also a human themselves. Everyone has a different view or perspective on what makes them a human. However, some characteristic from another person's perspective can bleed into someones view on what it means to be human, and in turn strengthen or clarify their definition on what it means to me human. Some believe that having opinions and being able to communicate with one another your views on something is very much so what it means to be a human.
In the article National Museum of Natural History's David H. Koch Hall of Human Origins has an exhibit that is dedicated

The article mentions that a huge chunk of what makes us humans is knowing where and who we came from. Their exhibit focuses on the human characteristics not just the biological species, because our characteristics is what makes us specials. For example, how humans walk on two feet and use tools for hunting and eating. So, in this article it is believed that understanding and believing evolution is what makes us humans, because evolution is what makes us what we are today.
When researching there was a common recurrence with characteristic that make humans human. These characteristics separate us from our ancestors and is why we are the most successful species to live to this day. The first most occurring similarity in my research is that humans walk upright. Millions of years ago the early humans would climb up trees and walked on the ground to find food. This combination helped humans gain the ability to evolve and walk upright on two legs. The first known human to walk on two legs was Sahelanthropus. It is believed that Sahelanthropus walked upright to survive in the high grasslands and forest. If Sahelanthropus did not evolve and walked up right he could have died earlier than he did, because he did not adapt to his surrounding or it could have taken many more years for humans to develop this skill. Another common occurrence is my research is that early humans and humans today use many types of tools. The early humans had tools such as daggers

Yes, we may have involved and now we can walk upright, have bigger brain size, and use tools, but thats not what makes us human. That is like saying just because I have long hair, wear skirts, and paint my fingernails those are the factors that make me a girl or defines what it means to be a girl. No, it does not. What is means to be human is how we socialize and communicate. As humans we can share food and resources and while doing so we have the capability to communicate to one another. One of my favorite pieces from the article was a response to the question: What does it mean to be human? The person wrote being able to call for pizza at the twelve o’clock in the morning is what it means to be human. That is the type of thing that makes us human. You don’t see chimpanzee’s or zebra’s calling Papa John’s for some late night pizza. The final thing that makes us human is our soul and conscience. Humans have the ability to care and grieve over another person. Humans have a
There was a chief new discovery of fossil bones and teeth belonging to the earliest human ancestors ever discovered. The fossil bones predate the oldest formerly discovered human ancestor by more than a million years. The discovery was of fossil remains of a hominid that lived in present day Ethiopia between 5.2 and 9.8 million years ago. (Hominids include all species following the split as of the chimpanzees on the “human” side of the evolutionary tree.)
What does it mean to be human? To most people it means being high on the food chain; or having the ability to make our own choices. People everywhere have a few things in common: We all must obey Natural laws, and we have preconceived ideas, stereotypes, and double standards. Being human is simply conveyed as human nature in “The Cold Equations”, by Tom Godwin, where the author shows the common ground that makes each and every one of us human.
Are we really humans? What is the definition of a Human being? What makes us Humans? Society is so complicated that anything can be true these days. In Judith Butler’s essay, “Besides Oneself: On the Limits of Sexual Autonomy”, she talks about how humans are vulnerable to life around us socially and physically, and humans are dependable on others. She also uses examples such as grief to define who we are because when humans go through the grief process it reveals who that person really is and it can change that person forever in. Some people go through the grief process differently because it affects everyone. Losing someone close to you can change your prospective about life and how you look at things. We live in a country where everyone is going to be judged and looked at differently no matter what gender a person is.
Wilford, John Noble. "Homo Naledi, New Species in Human Lineage, Is Found in South African Cave." The New York Times. The New York Times, 10 Sept. 2015. Web. 08 Dec. 2015.
Humans are a unique set of species with many defining characteristics. A majority of people when asks what makes you human, would say being able to breathe, talk, bleed, and reproduce....
"I'm only Human," is a response everyone hears when someone makes a mistake. Does that mean humans are in heritably fallible? Or are we fallible because of society? In Mexico it is polite to greet someone by kissing them on the cheek, in the United States it is considered an invasion of personal space. Personal traits make up society, nevertheless there are characteristics that is common throughout all of our species. People's identity is formed through their moral behavior and conscience, making them human. For centuries humans functioned by morals and conscience, but in today's society we have a social order. The government and those in power help formulate our opinions and are utilized to keep us in check. The fundamental aspect of humans is morality and their relationship in society due to their interaction based on conscience efforts to keep order.
What does it mean to be human? Is it the millions of cells that you’re composed of? Or is it something more? In George Orwell’s book 1984, through the use of his protagonist, Orwell looks at what it really means to be human. In a world that is built on destruction and manipulation, Orwell takes a look at how a totalitarian government affects humankind and a person’s ability to stay “human”.
In conclusion, the Homo Sapien is the most complex creature and it gets most of its features from past ancestors. The Homo Sapien gets its walking upright ability from the Australopithecus Genus. We get our large molars from the the Paranthropus Genus. We also get our cultural and artwork abilities from the Homo Erectus group. We learned our craftsman skills from the Homo Habilis group. Overall the Homo Sapien’s group is very diverse with all the evolving it has done from the beginning of time and passed on from generation to generation these skills, and these skills are still used until this day, we would never be as advanced as we are today if it weren't for the past of the human race.

What does it mean to be human? Sure, one must have the usual physical features such as fingers, eyes, arms, hands, feet, etc., but what does it really mean? Must the human be able to speak? To take upon the actions of themselves? Whatever it means, it can be interpreted in any way from anyone. The physical attributes of any human can be compared to those of our evolutionary ancestors. However, it is possible to believe that there are many characteristics that make a human, but only six define the true, ideal human.
Humans are extremely complex and unique beings. We are animals however we often forget our origins and our place in the natural world and consider ourselves superior to nature. Humans are animals but what does it mean to be human? What are the defining characteristics that separate us from other animals? How are we different? Human origins begin with primates, however through evolution we developed unique characteristics such as larger brain sizes, the capacity for language, emotional complexity and habitual bipedalism which separated us from other animals and allowed us to further advance ourselves and survive in the natural world. Additionally, humans have been able to develop a culture, self-awareness, symbolic behavior, and emotional complexity. Human biological adaptations separated humans from our ancestors and facilitated learned behavior and cultural adaptations which widened that gap and truly made humans unlike any other animal.
It’s my conclusion that my very broad definition of what makes us human is still intact even though it contradicts the above. The only way a human can be inhuman is through another human’s perception. The definition of what is not human is decided by the majority. The idea must then be accepted by the group that is the majority. It is through this system that some of the most atrocious things have been done to those found to be inhuman. In the end the only inhuman, are those who think they have the right and authority to decide who is and isn’t human.
One of the biggest questions asked by not only researchers, but everyday people as well, has been the question of what makes we as people human. Being human consists of a complexity of definitions and factors that coexist with one another to make up who we are as people, and through anthropology, being human is studied very carefully in order to provide an answer to this question. Aspects such as language and communication, self-conceptualism, and bipedalism all correlate to what consists of being human, and while some of these can relate to other species, human beings use them in uniquely different ways that enhance our functioning in the world. Anthropologists have researched the complexity of human beings for centuries and throughout this
Creationists believe that humans were always humans. Humans are classified in the mammalian family Primates. In this arrangement, humans, along with our extinct close ancestors, and our nearest living relatives, the African apes, are sometimes placed together in the family Hominidae because of genetic similarities. Two-leg walking seems to be one of the earliest of the major hominine characteristics to have evolved. In the course of human evolution the size of the brain has been more than tripled.
What makes us human? What is it that we are made up of? I know a human has a body made up of two legs, two arms, two eyes, a nose, a mouth, and two ears, but that is not what makes us human. Human beings are made up of feelings, the ability to think, communication, and many other elements. Feelings show the way we feel between each other and is the reason for our survival. The ability to think is so important because just because we can think doesn’t always mean we do think. Communication is essential to human society. These are some of the elements I consider to be the most important of being human. Feelings, is something that makes us humans. Feelings, is one important element that makes us humans because that is how we can relate how others feel and that is the
