Most people today follow the laws and principles that are designed to promote respect towards all, but is that really enough? Some believe it is enough and others believe we should go above and beyond in our in respect as well as what we offer in life. Therefore, what it means to be a socially responsible member of American society has become a controversial topic. Everyone has their own opinion of what that means. A socially responsible member of society gets involved, contributes to their community, and does things that will benefit others.
Some may argue though, that one only needs to follow the laws and principles and that going above and beyond when it comes to society is just too much. They may believe as long as they are not causing problems they are doing everything they are supposed to do and shouldn’t have to do more. For example, doing such things as not

They believe socially responsible citizens get involved and participate in activities within their community. The idea is that they not only better themselves, but at the same time better the world. One popular way to do this is by volunteering. There are many different ways in which you can volunteer and all it takes is a little time and effort. As once stated, “Volunteering can be one of the best ways there is for you to become engaged in your community” (Nanzer). Not only does volunteering benefit others, but it can have lasting benefits on the one volunteering as well. One who volunteers gains social and work skills, improves their health, and gains a sense of pride from their accomplishments. Moreover, the one volunteering has the chance to make a lasting impact on another’s life. Additionally, there are many other ways in which one can contribute to their community, such as donating or attending local events. Donating the items you no longer need can really help those that are in
Social responsibility is the ethical foundation and guiding principles we are to live by. This trickles down from organizations, to the individual level. It’s the duty of everyone to help in need. By doing so, helps keep the balance in our society as well as our ecosystem.
Why I want to volunteer I am directionless. Lost in a sea of people; people who all seem to know what they want to do with their lives. Volunteering can help me find a direction, a path that I want to be on. Assisting patients and workers provides more information on working in a hospital than any course or the internet can provide.
Currently, there are many discussions regarding society’s views on how a “good” person should act. For example, in one society going to war may be viewed as a patriotic act, while in another society it may be viewed negatively because it can be seen as an act promoting violence. Furthermore, there are flaws in always conforming to society’s standards because it takes away one’s individuality. These topics are raised in the “Unknown Citizen” which is a poem by W.H. Auden that describes a man who is viewed by society as a perfect person and also in “Do Not Go Gently” by Dylan Thomas where he urges society to not accept death and fight it. As a result, there are actions that society declares as being righteous, but it is also important that people follow their own intuition because that way they become their own person.
Individual Social Responsibility is a moral belief where we as individuals, have a responsibility toward society. Being "socially responsible" is about all individuals behaving ethically and sensitively towards social, economic, and environmental issues. It is about being accountable for our actions and being conscious of the impact our actions have on others, our communities, and the environment. By taking an active participation in resolving some of the issues, we as individuals should all strive to set good examples by applying and adhering to socially responsible practices, such as improving the quality of lives for individuals and their families, volunteering energy and time towards improving and benefiting society. Get involved and actively participate in helping to solve some of the local issues.
I would like to begin by telling you what the definition of “Civic Responsibility” is: “Responsibility of the Citizen”. That is not the definition that I, myself, take as the meaning. To me, Civic Responsibility means that, “If you are going to consider yourself part of a group, or civilization, then you have to pull your weight. Whether that be through your work, or just keeping your neighborhood clean, everyone has a job, and they should be expected to do that task in a timely manner.” Now, whether or not you agree with that statement or not, that was my opinion, and we are all entitled to our own. I believe that the purpose of this assignment was to get us thinking about how others felt, and acted towards someone who is out changing the

Volunteering is an important contributor to our society. It is also a great opportunity to learn different skills, especially young people, and they will become a part of who you are. Your future employers will thank you for it, as will any college or university that you decide to apply too. It is also a perfect way for everyone to meet different people and experience different things. Volunteering not only actively will help people; it also helps the environment. Most of all, it allows you to become a better person for what you have
Volunteering enables an individual to make a positive impact on his or her community, while empowering the individual to better his or her life. This summer, I had the opportunity to volunteer at many diverse locations. From the hospital to the local library, I truly value my experience and treasure everything it has thought me. Volunteering lets us experience and learn things that we otherwise would not have learned; volunteering opens doors for us that we may not have been able to open before. Volunteering provides us with guidance and tolerance which we may use in the future to aid us in our decisions. At first glance, volunteering may seem to only benefit those who are helped, but on a deeper level, one can realize that volunteering benefits the volunteer as much as, if not more than, those who are helped. Not only does volunteering make a difference in one’s community, but it also helps the volunteer become a smarter, happier, friendlier and more caring individual.

When i think about social responsibility i think of being nice to one another. Being socially responsible in America means being involved in one’s community such as being active. One can be socially active in many situations such as in church, school and attitude. A common misconception about volunteering is that it only helps the cause. Often times that aspect is the only part that is highlighted when the topic of donating time comes up. There is a different side of volunteering though. Many volunteers donate their time to help better the community they live in and the people that live in it. When they choose to do this they not only help others but they are also helping better themselves. Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities.

Helping Hands has helped my family in the past. Several years ago my family was struggling with income and Helping Hands was generous enough to help us pay our electric bill. I chose to volunteer at Helping Hands because I wanted to give back to the program. At the time, it seemed like there was little value in sorting piles of toys but then the manager shared with me that many children would be very happy to receive these toys for Christmas. This one comment helped me to put it all into perspective. Volunteering isn’t about me; it is about playing an active in the community. Bringing joy to families who are suffering, giving hope to the hopeless.
