Many of us don’t get out of bed in the morning without checking our phone and going on the internet to see what the weather will be like for today, calling our friend to see where to meet before school, and instantly turning on our favorite songs to get ready to. Thanks to the 1990s, all of those things are possible. These statistics are amazing, but even more amazing is the development of computers. Now in 2005, in this short 68-year period, computer technology has changed its entire look; now, we use computer chips instead of vacuum tubes and circuit board instead of wires. The changes in size and speed are probably the biggest. When we look at computers today, it is very hard to imagine computers 60 years ago were such big, heavy monsters.

Technology has undoubtedly made a huge impact in our lives through several different aspects. From the laundry machine that washes our clothes, to the microwave that heats up our food, technology has allowed us to live an easier and better lifestyle. One area that the advancement of technology has really influenced is crime. As the demand of consumers increase, new products are released which many use to their advantage and can cause an increase in the amount of crime that occurs throughout the world but, more specifically the United States. On the other hand, the criminal justice system has noticed several issues that need to be addressed and release new inventions that in turn reduce crime in the targeted area of interest. We are eternally learning from other cultures and adapting and forging a new approach to better understand and reprimand offenders and make sure justice always prevails. We have seen history and technology alter and imperceptibly modify towards new cultures and an easier lifestyle.
Sadly, now everything has changed with the major improvements in technology. Phones didn't only change society, but it changed the world in many ways. People are always connected to each other. People before have imagined flying cars and other inventions for the future, but no one even thought of having cellular devices. On the bright side, having a cell phone makes communication and interaction much easier.
As the world revolves, there are a lot of changes that happens in the world. For example, in terms of technology, there are a lot of improvements already. Back then, for example, features of mobile phones were only call and text. Today, Americans are faced with the increasing change of technology in our everyday life. Sometimes the change happens and we do not realize how it affects our lives. I think it is always a good idea to talk to someone that is older than yourself, like your grandparents to remind you of the times in their younger years. Hopefully, that will open your eyes to the changes we face in this generation and the generation to come. In this chapter, the author explores the relationship of changing technology to changes in both the environment and social institutions.
Introduction In an attempt to find out why most governments and economists encourage technological changes even though it increases structural unemployment, it is important to first and foremost understand the meanings of ‘technological change’ and ‘structural unemployment’. Technological change refers to the improvement of processes that make it easier to produce more, efficiently and at reduced inputs. On the other hand, structural unemployment refers to a situation where skills needed to produce efficiently cannot be matched to appropriate unemployed persons due to technological change – in other words, it refers to inefficiencies in the labor market. Governments and economists and encourage technological change in order to efficiently improve production with reduced inputs, thereby boosting the economy. Impact of technological change on employment As new innovations and technologies are brought into production processes, matching continuous training is necessary to ensure that the supply of skilled labor is available to work with these technologies.
Another example of the change in our technology over the last century is the change in the computer. In 1946, the first electronic computer called the ENIAC took up the space of a large room. Instead of using transistors and IC chips, the ENIAC used vacuum tubes. Compared to many computers now, the ENIAC is about as powerful as a small calculator. That may not be much, but it is a milestone because there would not be computers today if it were not for the ENIAC. As the years passed, the computer became smaller and more powerful. Today, more than half of the American population has a computer in their home. The personal computers today are thousands of times more powerful than the most powerful computers fifty years ago.
