“An estimated 24.7 million children (33%) live in homes absent of their biological father” (“The Extent of Fatherlessness,” 2018). A fatherless home is a family with children who grow throughout most of their adolescent years without their biological father present. Throughout the recent years fatherless homes have become more common in western society; some might say it is a social normality. Fatherlessness can happen for a number of reasons. It can result from couples who are divorced, having children out of wedlock and teen pregnancies, the death of that parent, or any other case that leaves a family with the void of a father. By understanding that income is more of a concern in these kinds of homes it is easier to see why it is common to find a family living in a cheaper apartment or smaller space. An organization in this area is the Sabathani Community Center. “It was founded in 1966 by concerned residents and members of Sabathani Baptist Church in South Minneapolis. These were caring folks who wanted to provide recreation for kids in the neighborhood” (“Family Resource Services,” 2012).
