“This isn't fair,” I sniveled, “I don't understand. I can't lose her. I don't know what I'm going to do if I lose her.” Thursday, December 11th, 2014, the only source of warmth within my body came from the pillows and blankets that surrounded me. Tears streamed down my face, creating puddles on my pillows as I gradually felt my body start to tingle. Having lost control of my body, I was completely consumed by shock. Family and friends were trying to be comforting, but I hadn't interpreted words for hours. A distant ringing clogged my ears while my brain was conscious of only one thing, Morgan. In this split second my life changed. In a 2002 Disney production, Lilo and Stitch, Experiment 626 is an alien created by evil genius, Dr. Jumba Jookiba, to destroy everything within …show more content…
his path.
He was sentenced to death due to being created under illegal pretenses and lack of emotional control, but managed to escape by outmaneuvering the forces that held him captive. To complete his escape, Experiment 626 stole a cruiser to navigate his way through space. With the lack of preparation and skill, Experiment 626 was predetermined to crash into an unknown planet, later figured to be Earth. Calculations insisted that the ship would land into an amount of water that the alien's molecular structure could not handle and result in death. Despite these calculations, the team found that the alien would land on unknown territory. Before Experiment 626 lands, a new character comes into the scene, a Hawaiian native, Lilo. Lilo is late for hula class since she ran to the store to buy peanut butter for Pudge's sandwich. She seems to think that Pudge controls the weather, so every Thursday she goes to the ocean to feed him a sandwich. Myrtle decided to accuse Lilo of being crazy leading to a brawl between the two where Lilo punches and bites her. As one could see, Lilo isn't an average child, she's misunderstood. She decides to apologize to Myrtle, but when she asks to play dolls with Myrtle and her
friends they run away because of her doll, Scrump. Lilo's parents passed away which left her sister, Nani, to care for her. Although they fight and disagree with each other, they both would do anything for the other. Circumstances have been rough on the sisters and it's noticeable. Social workers question if Nani is eligible to take care of Lilo, so they are under observation of Cobra Bubbles. After making amends with Nani, Lilo experiences what she thinks to be a falling star. Pushing her sister out of her bedroom door, Lilo kneels to wish for a friend who won't run away; going out of her way she asks for the nicest angel possible. Shifting back to Experiment 626, he finds himself in the middle of the street when it starts to rain. After shooting every drop, he meets a frog that catches him off guard leading to him getting hit by three semi trucks. While the alien is unconscious, he was transported to the animal shelter where they thought he would never get adopted. Nani overheard Lilo's wish and proposed the idea to let Lilo adopt a dog of her choosing. Seeing all of the empty cages, Lilo notices the cute, fluffy alien the most. Once verbally saying hello to one another, Lilo decides that he's the one while thinking that he's a dog. Although he's weird, she believes he's good and names him Stitch. After dancing, playing, and singing Elvis together around town, Nani is still left jobless because Stitch managed to ruin every chance she had to being offered a job. Once home, Nani threatens Lilo of taking him back to the shelter, but Lilo refuses and yells “what about ohana?” Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten. Teammates from over the years have turned into friends that are forever a part of my life. Sophomore year of high school, I met a girl who was a spitting image of myself, Morgan Rae McAlexander. She was stunningly beautiful, a tone of voice that could blow eardrums, able to catch anyone's attention, and had my exact sarcastic, blunt humor. On this afternoon of 2013, I met a girl who would become the little sister that I never had. Morgan and I grew a bond that is almost unexplainable. We both had the goal to make as many friends as possible; everyone started to seem like best friends. However, we had different concepts on how to help our friends while they were in need. Morgan would spread the word of God to her newly made friends while I would give any kind of advice possible.
A former Yale psychologist, Stanley Milgram, administered an experiment to test the obedience of "ordinary" people as explained in his article, "The Perils of Obedience". An unexpected outcome came from this experiment by watching the teacher administer shocks to the learner for not remembering sets of words. By executing greater shocks for every wrong answer created tremendous stress and a low comfort levels within the "teacher", the one being observed unknowingly, uncomfortable and feel the need to stop. However, with Milgram having the experimenter insisting that they must continue for the experiments purpose, many continued to shock the learner with much higher voltages. The participants were unaware of many objects of the experiment until
Regression is a defense mechanism resulting in an individual returning to a childlike state to cope with unpleasant thoughts or stress. Regression occurs when an individual faces a particularly stressful or tense situation, and instead of handling said scenario in a mature and adult manner, an immature, childlike technique is employed to handle the anxiety. While a psychoanalytic analysis is more difficult given the subconscious nature of the tensions and resulting anxiety, there are several scenes through the movie that indicate Clark Griswold regresses to handle unpleasant and anxiety-inducing situations. In one example, Clark has been stringing lights on his house for hours, and upon attempting to light them comes to find that none of
There are three older boys, Ralph, Jack, and Piggy, that have an effect on the group of younger boys. The Main character Ralph, changes throughout the novel because of his role of leadership and responsibility, which shapes him into a more strict but caring character as the group becomes more uncivilized and savage. At the beginning of the story, after the plane crashed on the island and the boys are accounted for, Ralph feels very free and absent. He finds a lagoon with warm water, and just like any other twelve year old boy, he goes for recreational swimming. Whizzoh!
In 1963 a psychologist named Stanley Milgram conducted one of the greatest controversial experiments of all time. Milgram tested students from Yale to discover the obedience of people to an authoritative figure. The subjects, whom did not know the shocks would not hurt, had to shock a “learner” when the “learner” answered questions incorrectly. Milgram came under fire for this experiment, which many proclaimed was unethical. This experiment of Milgram’s stimulated the creation of several responsive articles. Two articles that respond to this experiment are authored by Diane Baumrind and Ian Parker. These two authors attempt to review the methods, results, and ethical issues of Milgram’s experiment.
Chapter 4 discusses the several states of consciousness: the nature of consciousness, sleep and dreams, psychoactive drugs, hypnosis, and meditation. Consciousness is a crucial part of human experience, it represents that private inner mind where we think, feel, plan, wish, pray, omagine, and quietly relive experiences. William James described the mind as a stream of consciousness, a continuous flow of changing sensations, images thoughts, and feelings. Consciousness has two major parts: awareness and arousal. Awareness includes the awareness of the self and thoughts about one's experiences. Arousal is the physiological state of being engaged with the environment. Theory of mind refers to individuals understanding that they and others think,
Buddha, Confucius, and other lesser known Hebrew scholars philosophized on the mind in an expansive sense.
LET'S SIT RIGHT BACK AND HEAR A TALE, A TALE OF A FATEFUL TRIP, THAT STARTED ON THIS DESERT ISLE, ON THIS TINY SHIP.... WHEN YOU TAKE A LOOK AT YOURSELF AFLOAT IN THIS OCEAN OF PEOPLE, IT DOESN'T TAKE MUCH TO KICK UP A STORM AND CAPSIZE. FOR AN ENTIRE DAY I WAS A ONE MAN TROPICAL DEPRESSION. MY PARTNER AND I WANDERED AROUND TOWN WITH ONLY A GOAL OF INVADING OTHERS' PERSONAL SPACE. THROUGHOUT THE CITY, WE CROWDED PEOPLE AT PAYPHONES, SAT NEXT TO PEOPLE ON PARK BENCHES, SNUGGLED UP TO SINGLE RIDERS ON ELEVATORS, BROKE THE LAW OF URINAL ETIQUETTE ABD GENERALLY ANNOYED PEOPLE IN A LIBRARY. WITH THE PAYPHONE WE MADE THE INITIAL DECISION TO ALTERNATE, MY PARTNER BEING FEMALE AND I MALE, TO ALSO SEE THE DIFFERENCE RESPONSES TO MALE VS. FEMALE INTRUSION. WE WOULD ALTERNATELY WALK UP TO AND STAND BESIDE THE KIOSK OR BOOTH. WE MADE A DRAMATIC DEMONSTRATION OF NOT LISTENING TO THE CONVERSATION BY DIGGING THROUGH PURSE OR WALLET OR TOEING AROUND SOME IMAGINARY OBJECT ON THE GROUND. ON PARK BENCHES WE USED THE SAME IDEA. WE ONLY STUCK OURSELVES INTO THE SITUATION IF THERE WAS ONLY A SOLO RIDER AND ENOUGH ROOM FOR US TO HAVE STOOD A DISTANCE AWAY. CROWDING SOMEONE IN AN EMPTY 10' X 8' ELEVATOR OR PLOPPING DOWN NEXT TO SOMEONE ON A PARK BENCH SURROUNDED BY FOUR TO FIVE EMPTY BENCHES SEEMED TO SHOW THE MOST DRAMATIC RESPONSE. WE DECIDED THAT THE RULES NORMALLY ADHERED TO IN A LIBRARY SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE DEFINITION OF PERSONAL SPACE, JUST THAT THE SPACE HAD BEEN EXPANDED IN SIZE AND WIDENED TO INCLUDED SOUND PRODUCED BY ANOTHER. MY PARTNER SET HER CELL PHONE AND PAGER IN FRONT OF HER O A TABLE, SLID HER HEADPHONES INTO PLACE TO MAKE IT EASIER TO IGNORE BOTH AND SAT THERE. I MOVED TO THE STACK AREA AND CALLED HER PAGER AND PHONE REPEATEDLY. THE MOST QUESTIONABLE WAYS TO TEST PERSONAL SPACE WERE MINE, ASSUMING THEY WERE ALSO THE EASIEST TO DRAW VIOLENCE. I SPENT AN HOUR INSIDE THE THE WALK IN LOBBY OF A BANK IN THE DAYLIGHT AND AGAIN AFTER MIDNIGHT GETTING WHAT WAS EVIDENTLY TOO CLOSE TO PEOPLE USING ATM MACHINES. THE LAST DEVIANT ACT WITHIN THE REALM OF PERSONAL SPACE WAS DONE ONCE AND ONLY ONCE. WITHIN A BANK OF SEVEN URINALS IN A RESTROOM, I WAITED FOR ONE TO BE USED (THE FAR RIGHT WAS PICKED), THEN MOVED TO THE SECOND FROM THE RIGHT.
Since the first movie, Gru becomes a devoted father, raising his daughters Margo, Edith and Agnes while also researching a jelly and jam business with Dr. Nefario and the minions. In the meantime, a powerful aircraft using magnetism steals a laboratory in the Arctic Circle. The Anti-Villain League, who are dedicated to fighting crime on a global scale, send agent Lucy Wilde to recruit Gru, to help the agency solve the mystery. Before this, Gru’s life was very boring and domesticated but now a new villain has surfaced and they must discover who has stolen the laboratory. This is crucial as the lab stored a powerful chemical called PX-41 that has the ability to transform living organisms into aggressive monsters. Gru agrees to help and partners with Lucy to find the evil person. Gru first suspects that the owner of a Mexican restaurant, Eduardo Perez, may be the villain El Macho who is believed to be dead. Because Gru is blinded by his overprotectiveness of his children and starts growing some attraction to his partner Lucy, he doesn’t realize that his minions are being quietly kidnapped for some evil purpose. Agnes wishes of one day having a mo...
n hypothesis of the experiment is that the group containing four members will perform better than the group containing two members. This is the foundation from which we have conducted our experiment.
We were slammed off the road in a tumble, and the only screams I could hear were my own. It was a blur in memory, but crystal clear in the moment. It felt like every ticking second was an eternity. A painful eternity, feeling each one of my ribs agonizingly crack. Listening to the bloodcurdling screams I couldn't even recognize as my own. The car had flipped and we were rolling down a steep hill at full speed. The truck had crushed Aaron's skull like a squished grape and I was in too much of a panic to turn to a seemingly dead Cheyenne. My entire body was lit up with excruciating pain and my ears rang louder than my
Reading this book has been interesting and heartbreaking experience. A Year of Magical Thinking, a journey through the grieving process. While dealing with the death of her husband, she is confronted with the sickness of her only child. This book touches me, and it makes me think of what would happen if my loved one died. This paper is a reflection of my thoughts and feelings about this woman’s journey that has been explored by book and video. I will also explore the author’s adjustment process, and how she views her changed self.
Ally pulled her knees to her chest, hiding her face in her damp nightgown. She had gone through the torture of this for three months, and the visions and voices were getting worse. Her boyfriend, Joseph, suggested therapy, but Ally quickly vetoed it. Ally knew what her shrink would think of her. And she didn't need another person thinking she was out of her skull. Joseph did.
For this research requirement I chose three different experiments to examine thoroughly. The first of these experiments came from the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology. The study done in this journal was an examination of orthographic learning and self-teaching in a bilingual and biliterate context. The aim of the study was to figure out the advantages and/or disadvantages of a student learning a native language when they are either monolingual, bilingual, or biliterate, and the study was focused on learning English because this is the most commonly learned non-native language in the world.
My social experiment, took way too much thought to complete. I could not think about what I should do for this project until about noon on that beautiful Sunday. I invited a couple of friends to go with me to Walmart, but I was unsuccessful and I only got one friend to accompany me. Even so, we had fun.
The reckless driver hit us straight on, then “Bang!” a loud noise resonated through the air, and abruptly my body flew out and hit the pavement of the road. Everything around me was simply a white haze for a few seconds after the impact. My body felt extremely heavy and the sharp pain throbbed throughout my face and body. Lying there on the rough asphalt, I faintly heard my mom and Carrie call out to me, “Sydney! Sydney! Are you okay? Answer me! Sydney!” I wanted I speak up and answer them, nonetheless, it was useless, my voice just wouldn’t make a sound. The desperation in Carrie’s and my mom’s voices reverberated to me across from where I was lying. My mom frantically ran up to my side and hugged me tightly in her arms. Blood was squirting out of her pinky, where the top of her finger had been severed. The places where my mom’s tears fell, stung my wounds, nevertheless, it was nothing compared to each little movements that caused the pains to electrify through my body severely. Every second was hell, the pain was just utterly agonizing and tormenting. Whether it was due to the pain or the exhaustion my body suffered, my mind slowly drifted off and I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer. As my eyes gradually closed, the blazing siren seemed to have grown louder little by
