The Existence of Mermaids
Mermaids are extraordinary and beautiful creatures of the sea. Dating back all the way to ancient Rome and Greece, mermaids seem to fascinate people. Both Greek and Roman mythology show this appreciation for humans that live at sea with the roman god, Neptune, and the greek god, Poseidon. Several modern religions, including Hinduism and Candomblé (an Afro-Brazilian belief), worship mermaid goddesses to this day. Mermaids are fascinating creatures of the sea. They stay in the dark depths of the ocean and very rarely come up to the surface making them very hard to see. Due to them living so deep in the waters, their lives remain a total mystery. There are even some people that think they exist. Mermaids aren’t real and there are five reasons to say why they can’t exist. There are people dedicated to prove that they do exist and will go to extraordinary lengths to do so. What exactly is a mermaid? A mermaid is a sea creature with the upper body of a female human and the lower body of a fish. The male version of the mermaid is called a merman. The name comes from ‘mer’ meaning sea. They are often seen and drawn with sea shells in their hair and covering the breast of the female. Their also seen laying on rocks looking into hand held mirrors combing their long hair. Some people even

The way human digestive system is set up and the way a fish digestive system is set up is very different. There is no way for those two systems to combine. Mammals digest their food to produce solid waste and urine. Fish on the other hand, their kidneys produce ammonia which the expel through their gills. Basically, they pee through their gills. Humans have large and small intestines, while fish only have one simple intestine. There is no way to combine both of the digestive systems into a single functioning system. Once again, mermaids would have to have their own special way of digesting their
In other places in the Old Testament, the word is used of eatable fish. Isaiah 19:10, refers to "fish" in ponds. Ezekiel 29:4 refers to "fish" in rivers or fresh water fish. The "Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible", blatantly states as unquestionable that, "The great fish' of Jonah 2:1 was either a whale or shark". (Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible, Volume 1, Walter A. Elwell, 1988, pg101)
Greek mythology has always been a very fascinating subject to talk about. The belief that gods and goddesses once ruled the Earth is an interesting idea. To think that the land and sea were once looked upon by one of the strongest and fiercest gods that ever lived. Poseidon or Neptune was known to be one of the strongest gods that ever walked on the planet. Poseidon is best known for protecting and watching over the ocean.
Poseidon was a powerful god that could shake the earth by simply striking his trident, his power was only surpassed by that of Zeus, but Poseidon's creativity was unrivaled. Creating all the animals in the sea was not an easy task, but from Poseidon's endless imagination came all the creatures of th...
Humans have only discovered less than five percent of the ocean, while the ocean makes up seventy percent of our world. Even though we have explored so little of it, we have found very interesting creatures such as giant squids, yeti crabs, and zombie worms. None of these animals are similar in any way, not even their habitats, appearances, or diets. However they use these factors to be able to survive in sometimes extreme conditions.
Although they are fish, seahorses are not great swimmers. In fact, they prefer to rest in one area, sometimes holding on to the same coral or seaweed for days.
The crew threw harpoons at the creature, but those would not stay in the flesh for long. When the crew got close enough to put a noose around the creature, the rope tightened and cut through the animal, causing most of it to sink to the bottom of the sea. The crew, however, managed to pull the tail of the creature on board, and bring it back to the French Consul. From there, the tail and a report about the creature made its way to the French Academy of Sciences. Giant squid, of which there are many different species, have been spotted less than fifty times in the last century, but none have been seen in their natural habitat, the depths of the sea, or caught on tape.
To stop his sad feelings, Poseidon wanted to find a bride. On his way, he stumbled upon the mermaid Amphitrite, a sea nymph with golden hair and sparkling blue eyes, dancing on the island of Naxos with her friends. Taken by her extraordinary beauty, Poseidon couldn't help but falling in love with her and asked her to be his wife. Amphitrite, a granddaughter of the Greek god of the seas Oceanus and the daughter of the gentle Sea god Nereus, was trying to protect her virginity i...
Poseidon is the god of both fresh and salt water, and Horses. Some of Poseidon’s powers were the ability to change form, cause earthquakes, floods, and droughts. The Greeks worshiped Poseidon because they thought he controlled the oceans and rivers. Sailors would especially worship him because they wanted good weather while they were sailing. Some of Poseidon’s sacred animals and plants are: the Cretan bull, horses, dolphins, fish, other marine animals, hippocampi, pine trees, and wild celery. Some of Poseidon’s symbols are the trident, a boulder encrusted with sea creatures, and a wreath of wild celery. It is important to know about Poseidon because learning about the Greek

The African Culture portrays the idea of mermaids in different perspectives across the continent. Mermaids in Africa are observed to have specific similar features across the regions. Typical research in African Mythology describe mermaid as an attractive, mystic and dangerous woman who shrouds herself with a vengeance. In western regions of Africa, she is commonly referred to as Mami Wata while the Eastern Regions she is known as Mamba Muntu. She is designated as an attractive and lovely woman with an angelic stare and flowing lovely black hair which she uses to bewilder human beings. Her is purpose is to intrigue, seduce and beguile her spectator. Nevertheless, she transcends how humanity perceives the reality of metaphysical, especially
A clear contrast for dogs and fish are their habitat. This is probably the most notable contrast when considering having a dog or a fish as a pet. A fish has to live in an underwater habitat. This habitat can be as extreme as a wall to wall tank or as mundane as a small bowl on a desktop . Either way, this habitat causes the owner to incur extra expenses when purchasing a suitable tank, water, and
There is really no evidence that mermaids exist so they probably do not. Anyone can choose what they want to believe about mermaids but without actual proof of anything that anyone has seen, it is hard to believe anything. Pictures and videos can be easily altered so people never know if they are seeing what truly happened. If mermaids do exist, they have probably been hiding themselves for a reason. If mermaids do exist, they have surely done a great job concealing it.
...r. Even though they live in the ocean all their life and also amusement parks, dolphins are mammals, not fish. That makes them very intersting animals because of all the charactics that they have that people would have never known about. Dolphins are by far the most intelligant marine mammals in the ocean.
Fish are one of Allah’s mighty creations on this world. Fish are just another common type of organism which exists on this Earth. Fish are everywhere; from the aquarium in an office to the Atlantic Ocean and from the book “Fish Tales” to the notorious movie “Finding Nemo.” The term fish usually refers to a cold blooded (exothermic) aquatic vertebrate which lives and swims inside the water.
They rarely ever dive to great depths and mostly stay near the water’s surface.
