The topic of the week has been on communication and relational dynamics, the exercise I chose to analyze is the one that is on page 305. Relational maintenance is described as communication that keeps relationships running smoothly and satisfactorily. First I am going to explain what the key components are in maintaining a good relationship. There are 5 key components, the first one is positivity which is keeping the relational climate polite and upbeat, trying to avoid criticism. Positivity is very important when it comes to personal relationships because it is clear that no one enjoys being around someone that is negative all the time and always is criticize and putting the other down that relationship probably won't last long. The second one is openness, it is critical to be open with your partner so they know exactly where you are coming from and what your values and beliefs …show more content…
It is important to be open with the other person also so you know you are not going to waste your time or get yourself into something you don’t want. The third one is assurance which is letting the other person know verbally and nonverbally that you are committed and care about the relationship so the two people don't start to drift away or always have the feeling of not being enough. The fourth key feature of maintaining a good relationship is social networks in the book it explains that social networking is being invested in each other's friends and family, and those they love, not just staying centered to that individual and being selfish. Showing that you care about their friends and family shows them a different level of respect and that you care about their life as well. The last one is sharing tasks which is just allowing each other to help one another take care of chores
It is not all about communication” . It says that not surprisingly those couples who reported communicating more effectively showed the highest satisfaction with their relationships. But the next two reasons which were also the only other ones with strong links to couple happiness, were knowledge of partner which included everything from knowing their pizza-topping preferences to their hopes and dreams and life skills like being able to hold a job, manage money, etc . But in order to have a healthy relationship I do believe that the communication is key but they also do need to know how to communicate in a healthy way that will not cause

For this paper, we will be talking about relational communications and Goffman’s terms. The definition of relational communication is “communication processes in personal relationships such as romantic, family, and friendships. We assess the role of communication in developing, maintaining, and dissolving relationships, how communication impacts partners and their relationships, and how to improve relational quality or individual well-being through communication. Recent topics examined include conflict mediation, relational standards, relational uncertainty in dating relationships, and communication environments in families” (n.d.). As it has said, it is about the relationships in our life. Goffman also stated that there was a front and

Regarding the assigned topic in the COUN. 757-course assignment one, a significant adult in my personal life that played a significant role in my development during the school-age developmental stage of my life were my parents, Eve and James Miller. There is little difference in these two individuals when compared to how they are now, however, the lifestyle these individuals have now is significantly different than the lifestyle they had. My relationship with Eve was a nurturing relationship. She organized and aided in her children’s daily life activities in and outside of the home environment. Eve is the spouse of James, who, at the time, served in the military and went to work every day at 6 am. and arrived home at 5 pm. My relationship with James was more distant, however, this was not intentional. He was essentially the person who handled the financial stability for the family.
The couple has lacked communication as well as Mrs. Davis has felt unheard. Therefore, helping the couple in communication will began to reshape and reform new clear boundaries within the spousal subsystem and parental subsystem. Helping my client’s communicate in a way that brings value to each other will strengthen the couple’s love for each other which will build hope (Worthington, 2005). In assisting the Davis’s in communication I would ask them to complete invention 10-5 exercise the will help them discern their personal love language. A love language is how each person in a relationship expresses their love through words and actions (Worthington, 2005).

Explain why effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults
Today, many people will be seeking relationship advice from a friend, a counselor, family member or even a psychic. The problem is everyone does not follow the basic steps to have a healthy relationship. Dishonesty, lack of communication, and often heard, loyalty can sometimes aide in the failing of a relationship. These factors could be the top reasons how relationships fail. When aspects of a relationship start to become unclear to one partner, it can cause turmoil, often leading to an unravelling of the partnership. There are two main areas to help substain a healthy relationship, communication and loyalty.
The more you get to know someone, the more you are able to make better decisions and judgments for not just yourself, but for your partner as well. How a couple handles issues while
When I began to comprehend the faults within our relationship, I knew it was time to act. Focusing on the Struggle Spectrum by the National Communication Association, I noticed that we were repeatedly climbing the struggle ladder and falling off the edge only to repeat it again. My younger, less educated version of myself would never have seen the problems but now, after years of college and my Interpersonal Communications class, I could see what needed to be done. I b...
For the experiential exercise assignment, I chose Bailey Johnston as my partner. Bailey and I live on the same floor and have the same group of friends, so I didn’t foresee any obstacles or complications because I knew her so well. On Sunday, February 22nd, we spent the day downtown and finished with a little studying in our room. First, we went to brunch at Gwinn, where we discovered that we had to talk about every decision we make because we do everything together. Then, we took the bus to Pike Place and walked through the market, and then we went shopping at a few different stores. After a few hours, we took the bus home and did some homework and ate dinner. All of this was exponentially harder while being attached

For a healthy relationship, one needs to be able to function without total dependence on their mate. There are three main aspects of love. According to the triangular theory of love, these three components include intimacy, passion, and decision/commitment. Intimacy is the feeling of being connected and close to another person. It is getting to know the person beyond the friendship level and understanding them on a romantic level.
“Relationships are what make up our world today, they shape the ways we see things and the way that we do things, relationships affect how we see the world today”. I believe supporting what your partner does, having a great sum of trust and showing your affections towards your partner is what will make a healthy relationship great.
