Excerpt From Thoreau's Walden Colonization in Plymouth I awoke before the first rays of sunlight had passed through the dew-covered trees to the west today. It had rained the evening before, and the smell of wet leaves and grass was still lingering in the air. I prepared myself for the upcoming adventurous day. I set out along a less-traveled path through the woods leading to the shore. I could hear every rustle of the newly fallen leaves covering the ground. The brown ground signaled the changing of seasons and nature's way of preparing for the long winter ahead. Soon these leaves would be covered with a thick layer of snow. The leaves still clinging to the trees above displayed a brilliant array of color, simultaneously showing the differences of each and the beauty of the entire forest. I tracked over to my favorite spot on the edge of the wood: a clearing encompassed by thick trees. The area had many sweet-smelling balsam trees that reminded me of Christmas back home. A few of the remaining leaves fell from the branches of the maple trees above me. The water was calm, like the morning; both were starting to get ready for the day ahead. The silent water signals that although rough times occurred previously, the new day was a new start for the world. As I went closer to the water, I heard the subtle lapping of the water against the small rocks on the shore. Every sign of nature signals a change in life; no matter how slight, a change is significant. We can learn a lot from nature: whatever happens in the natural world, change comes and starts a new occurrence. I gazed over the water to where the sky met the sea. The body of water seemed to be endless under the clear blue sky. The scope of nature shows endless possibilities. Nature impresses us with the brilliant colors of the sky, the leaves, the water. She keeps us all in our places and warns us when we are careless with her. After all the leaves have fallen from the trees, she will offer us the first snows of the year to coat the earth with a tranquil covering. That will only be after we have recognized the lessons of autumn, the gradual change from warm to cold, rain to snow, summer to winter.
This excerpt from "Walden" by Henry D. Thoreau uses the literary element of word choice to express the importance of living simply and taking life slow. He uses bold and eloquent words to evoke a sense of peace and relaxation. He stresses the importance of living a life without unnecessary anxiety, for it causes nothing but stress. To understand and appreciate what is truly wonderful in life, we must forgo our rushing mindsets

Some lead others to a firm career choice, others may lure you away. When being hired for this certain career, you obtain satisfaction in different ways. You may feel personal satisfaction working with people. This Personal fulfillment comes from providing a valuable health care service while establishing trusting relationships with patients. You may feel prestige as a result of being respected due to your education and clinical training. Hygienists have opportunities to help special population groups such as children, elderly and the disabled in these clinics. They are able to use a variety of interpersonal and clinical skills to meet the oral health needs of many different patients each day. Considering they see many patients, they are able to be creative in their approach to patient management and oral health education. They offer full and part-time employment options, with flexible evening and weekend hours, enabling dental hygienists to balance their career and lifestyle needs. “With a secure future, they are bound to have open positions with the expanding older population retaining their teeth longer and reducing the incidence of oral disease.” says the American Dental Association. (2016) Some cons may consist of lower back pain overtime from leaning over the patient, having below average physical movement, and dealing with nasty hygiene. Though this job may consist of a few downsides, it has many pros that
In the 16th century, rumors of the Fountain of Youth had spread like wildfire. The thought of immortality, and everlasting youth had fascinated many old, and young adventurers. Most Eukaryotic organism cells are affected by a biological process known as aging. Effect of aging may include the advent of illness, disease, and ultimately death. Death, this fear of end existence had enthralled many people on the quest for prolonged longevity. Therefore, how do we extend our lifespan? Where is this “Fountain of Youth” ? Although the latter question may forever remain a lucrative theory. Perhaps the answer to prolonged longevity may reside on a little known region of a chromosomes, the telomeres.
Telomeres power the successful reproduction and division of cells, and are found in the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) of genes found in chromosomes. When she was tested, it was discovered that her telomeres were shorter than other non-cloned sheep her age. However, scientists say that this mistake could be useful for treatment of cancer. By giving cancer cells in the body short telomeres and putting them back into the body, other cancer cells would be infected, and would die qui...
The things you must have to in roll into a hairdresser or cosmetologists school is that you have to have at least a high school diploma or a Ged to get a cosmetologist a license. Hairdressers have to complete a course with the state approval from a barber or a cosmetologist school. The program had
As I stepped from the porch onto the sidewalk and prepared to turn right to cross the south lawn and burn hefty branches broken off the nearby Eastern white pine (Pinus strobus) by the weight of the snow, flashes of creamy floral colors caught my attention.
A report recently published by the American Cancer Society stated “About 1,685,210 new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in 2016”. However some new studies may have found the light at the end of the tunnel, telomeres. People with dyskeratosis congenita (as described above) have 1000 fold increased risk to get oral cancer. This theory of the linkage between telomere length and cancer came around in the 90’s but only just recently became provable. In a majority of cancer it was proven that many cells had critically shorter telomere length leading to unstable chromosomes. When a cell becomes cancerous, their chromosomes become unstable and uncontrollable. The cells continue to divide until the telomere becomes very short but what differs cancer cells from healthy cells is telomerase, which will maintain the cells telomere length and prevent death. Scientist believe if they can measure telomeres length and block telomerase they can predict and stop the cancer cell growth. In a recent experiment on mice with breast cancer, scientist were able to block telomerase and stop the growth of the cancer. However it had side effects like impaired fertility, wound healing, and production of blood cells and immune system cells(Are Telomeres The Key To Aging And Cancer?). Telomerase targeting could be the answer we are searching for but additional research is needed to further establish the exact roles
Being a cosmetologist best suits me because hair is my best skill. Also I am a very creative person and very diverse in my skills to style someone’s hair. I am a very patient person and a very polite and respectful person. To be a hair stylist you have to be patient because of the type of costumers you will be dealing with. I am also very generous and nice to people. Most hair stylist has a good attitude because of the job they chose which made them that way.
Human beings age and they have since the beginning of time, but it remains an unsolved mystery. This enigma has remained in the dark until the recent innovations technologies have shed some light on this elusive topic; cells are the key to figuring out why humans age. Aging seems to be a relatively simple process, but the more it is studied, it is evident that it is rather complex. There are a myriad of factors that contribute to aging, but none of them can single handedly answer the question of why humans age. This age long question is at the forefront of medical research. As a result, discoveries are frequently made, which contribute to the ever growing pool of knowledge. Perhaps in time, by researching this topic, the human lifespan will lengthen and the diseases that often plague the elderly can be prevented or subdued to a greater extent. Furthermore, human aging is proven to be closely linked with illnesses such as cancer, which is why so many world class scientists are pursuing this topic. Interestingly enough, there is no universal theory that is widely accepted by the scientific community; however, there are many theories that credibly explain the science behind aging. Aging is a subject that should be studied because it directly benefits many lives, and has tangible results.
At the age of sixteen I experienced the horrible feeling of losing a loved one. On October 5, 2015 my grandma decided she wanted to leave Houston, Texas and move with us to Brownsville, Texas. During the month she was with me, we would do everything together. In the mornings I would wake up and make her coffee and I would be there with her
My father passed away in 1991, two weeks before Christmas. I was 25 at the time but until then I had not grown up. I was still an ignorant youth that only cared about finding the next party. My role model was now gone, forcing me to reevaluate the direction my life was heading. I needed to reexamine some of the lessons he taught me through the years.

It took me a while to go outside or anywhere with anyone since they wanted me to have fun, but in my eyes I felt like I was betraying my father by having a good time instead of being sad. Me and my dad’s birthdays are both in June his is seven days before mine, and This May 29, 2014 will count 8 months without him. Even today I don’t like to hear anyone speak of my dad, the memory still makes me cry as if it happened yesterday. When I hear other people being rude to their dad or saying a rude comment it makes me just want to tell the person that I would do anything to have one more day with my dad. I am on a new journey in life without my dad and I will hold on to every memory good or bad as tight as I can.
