Power has a negative effect on people will act out of character if they are told to do something from someone of authority and the person in charge can manipulate people to get them to do things for him. Some people will act out of character and make decisions they would not normally make if someone of power tells them to do something. An example of this would be the Sentry from Antigone saying,”Frightened me so,and the things you threatened me with;...”(Lines 12-13). The Sentry is saying that Creon threatened his life so he had to find Antigone or he would perish. This shows that people with power can make ordinary people do dreadful things just so the superior
will not have to get his hands dirty. Likewise, leaders can talk people into doing their dirty work for them , so they will not have to. For example Creon says in Antigone,”...bring him here to me,or your death will be the least of your problems:..” Then he goes on and instructs the Sentry all of this specific orders on how he wants “The man” to be brought back to him (Lines 140-141). This shows that leaders can manipulate people to do there dirty work for them. All in all , power has a negative effect on people because the leaders will make a good person do unacceptable things and superiors will force citizens to do unlawful acts. Sophocles uses a dark and depressing mood in this quote to describe the death of Antigone and Haimon and show their love for one another. Sophocles starts off the quote by saying, “Now the dead lie in the arms of the dead (Sophocles. 1436)”. He uses a depressing mood in this phrase as the two have killed themselves and they are now with everyone else who has died. Sophocles continues to write the phrase, “They have been wedded in the house of death (Sophocles. 1437)”, Sophocles uses figurative language to describe how Antigone and Haimon have reunited with one another. In Sophocles’s play, Antigone, Thebes is just starting to settle down after a power struggle between two brothers led to one of them, Polyneices, waging war on the city-state to reclaim power, and eventually the two brothers’ deaths. Because of his act of treason against Thebes, Polyneices is denied rights to a burial, a very important part of Greek religion. His sister Antigone buries him despite the law, and is condemned to death by Creon, the king. Creon strives to bring a peaceful end to chaotic times. Although Creon claims the king must always be obeyed to avoid anarchy and chaos, Sophocles disagrees completely by showing what can happen when the king is wrong.

Polynices is considered a traitor to Creon and he doesn’t bury those who are against him. As conflicts occur, Antigone, Creon, and the Chorus argue on whether to have Polynices buried or not. Conflicts are a necessary part of life because of the changes that we run in to. It is appropriate to rebel and create conflict when we believe in doing the right thing to do, but someone is taking the necessary tool away from us so we can’t accomplish those goals. Also, it is appropriate to conform when violence gets out of hand. The changes that happen make us, the readers better individuals and once we have the conflicts solved, we won’t repeat the same mistakes and then conformity is possible.
Loyalty causes suffering in the characters of Antigone. Within Antigone, the characters battle against one another for what they believe is right. In other words, the characters are loyal to beliefs and figures, which have a certain definition of what is perceived as truly 'right' to them. This leads to conflict, and in turn, suffering for all parties involved, save the gods. The divisions of loyalty among the characters, despite there being a universal loyalty to the gods, causes them to hurt one another. They do not truly know what it is that will appease the gods and assume things based on what they feel is right.
Antigone has defied the king's edict. However, the edict says that her brother, Polynices, cannot be given a proper burial. The reason given for this is that Polynices is a traitor. Antigone's uncle, Creon, the king, makes this edict after many events happen. Antigone says herself that she has experienced "no private shame, no public disgrace, nothing" that cannot be experienced (Antigone, p. 658).
People who have a desire for power will do anything to get their, even if it means allowing their closest ones to get hurt or them. In the play Antigone, Sophocles writing can be very controversial. He explains different perspectives of justice through the fates of the characters in the play. Creon and Antigone both would claim to have the law and Gods on their sides. They bring acceptable evidence for their reasoning to be true for their thought of the right way to carry out justice. Creon is certain that his ability to be king will justify leaving Polynices unburied. On the other hand Antigone sees justice as the ability to bury her brother. Conflict explodes with their inability to compromise over what is the definition of justice. Justice has a different role to play in any individual’s life because gender differs from man to women and society sometimes looks down upon women. Justice should be served and women should have the same divine rights that men do.

The feat quickly escalates into a spectacle, with chanting fans and opponents salted and deep-fried. The spectacle of overeating has been transformed into a sport and one celebrated by the media.
One of the conflicts in Antigone, is the struggle between men and women. Ismene tells Antigone that since birth, women “were not born to contend with men,” (75) displaying women’s obedience and passivity. In the same passage, Ismene says: “we’re underlings, ruled by stronger hands,” (76) a representation of men’s aggressive and “stronger hands” that dominate women and treats them as second-class citizens. The only woman in Thebes who desires to break free from these chains is Antigone, who stands up against Ismene’s passivity urging her to “submit to this,” (77) and defy Creon by burying Polynices. By breaking Creon’s edict, Antigone challenges the traditional gender roles women and men play. In William Shakespeare's Hamlet, it is illustrated how power can turn corrupt, when authoritative figures, who possess power, abuse it for their personal gain, rather than for the common good of the society.

The conspirators celebrate the death of Caesar, because they believe that they make the right decision in killing him, and so far they have, but the decision to spare Mark Antony is one that will haunt them in the end. Not following one’s religion the same way as the majority does not make a person any less religious. A person without a specific religion still has morals and beliefs, but their beliefs are not tied down by a single physical manifestation such as the bible. These morals and beliefs, which vary from person to person, are Spiritual Law. Bertram Cates, although a Christian, also believes in evolution. Unlike Bertram Cates, Antigone’s spiritual beliefs fit within the dominant religion of her time. For both Antigone and Bertram Cates, the Human Law of their time does not agree with their spiritual beliefs. Bertram Cates and Antigone may believe differently than each other, they both agree that Spiritual Law takes precedence over Human Law.
