The devil said to Jesus if you are the son of God do this… The devil is not trying to cause doubt; he knew that jesus was the son of god he was using the power of since saying since you are the son of God then do this. he was trying to get jesus to do something without the guidance of god.
Many mens retreats end up in the mountains or outside of town limits to get AWAY FROM THE TEMPTATIONS OF CITY LIFE. But in the case of Jesus the Christ, the temptation by the devil was in the wilderness. “Temptation does not come from without, it comes from within.”- Ray C. Stedman. I appreciate this quote because it can be traced back to scripture in James 1:13-15 it states “13 And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong,[a] and he never tempts anyone else. 14 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.” (NLT) So if we look at the first instance of temptation that jesus encountered in the wilderness; he is hungry from fasting. In luke 4:3 the devils says to Jesus “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become a loaf of bread.”
What makes this scriptually significant is how the devil Took advantage of the natural need and offered jesus a moment to step outside of the promise of God. This was Jesus’ response in Luke 4:4 4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone.’[b]” This is Jesus saying he is not willing to give up the promise of God for what the devil portrayed as “normal and natural.” The second instance of Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness is found in Luke
(p. 44); "Who came to you with the devil?" and ".perhaps another person in the village?" (p. 45). A few of his faults are that he judges too much by appearances, ".you look as such a good soul should" (p. 37); ".a claim so weighty cannot be argued by a farmer," (p. 99); and he uses people to question other people.
And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. And the devil said unto Him, if thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written that man shall live by bread alone, but by every word of God. And the devil, taking Him up to a high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto Him,all this power will I give thee, and the glory of them:for that is delivered unto me; and to whosoever I will I give
This does not mean that you are the devil, but it is put into that perspective to help the reader get an idea. We, like Screwtape, deceive people daily and say things that we shouldn’t. It is almost like we have become comfortable with sin. Letter 8 says, “Do not be deceived, Wormwood. Our cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring, but still intending, to do our Enemy’s will, looks round upon a universe from which every trace of Him seems to have vanished, and asks why he has been forsaken, and still obeys.”
“One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them,” (55). The One Ring controls Gollum, Bilbo, Boromir, and Frodo in attempts to return to Sauron, Its Creator, the Lord of the Rings, and the utmost evil present in J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels. But the Ring never achieves Its goal because each character possesses a unique set of skills which resist the evil temptations of the Ring. Gollum is the first victim of the Ring, with no knowledge of Its powers or guidance away from Its control. Bilbo is the second ring bearer, with an almost complete knowledge of the Ring’s power still has difficulty resisting the Ring’s temptation. Gandalf guides Bilbo to constantly resist the evil of the Ring. Boromir never gets his hands on the Ring but craves Its power thinking he can use it for good, ignoring the guidance offered to him at the Council of Elrond. Frodo has the most knowledge and guidance of all the characters but also seems to have the strongest temptations. J.R.R. Tolkien uses characterization in the Fellowship of the Ring to prove that people without a longing for power resist temptation through knowledge, good habits, and guidance.
God did not reject Cain’s sacrifice because it was less than the best of his crop. Moses wrote, “And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord. Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.” (Genesis 4: 3-5)
Jesus refused every temptation. Later Satan departed and angels came down to nourish Jesus. Matthew and Luke explain the temptation of Jesus through dialogue between Jesus and Satan. Just as in the stories in the Bible referring to Satan’s temptations of Jesus, we find connections to Herman Winston’s temptations in the novel, Golfing with God. Herman’s prime example of temptation came about when Bunny Rogan says “I was there at the Western Pennsylvania Open” (Merullo 230).
...s and have nothing to eat” (Mark 8:2). Jesus commanded his disciples to give them something to eat. This wellspring of concern for those in need is like a genetic trait passed down to the followers of Jesus. While the book of James is perhaps the most forthright in expressing the church’s need to honor the poor and warn the rich, concern for those in need pervades the New Testament.
During the salem witch trials a lot of people accused each others of being a witch or dealing with the devil most of them lied because they wanted something that person had people accused each other left from right and those who were accused felt to ashamed to lie and admit that they talked to the devil because no one would believe them.
Theology and different religions, all contain information about sin. Sin is recognized as an unholy thing to possess, therefore, sin is not taken lightly. In Roman Catholicism, if one’s sins are serious enough, one may not receive eternal life with God, in Heaven. Severe punishments may occur, if one sins. Sin is thought to have been caused by mankind. The perception of sin continues to evolve as the analysis of texts continues.
Temptation is a feeling that has been around for quite some time. Actually, temptation followed right after the events of creation. “ In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” and
The Industrial Revolution was a time of change for Europe; not only economically, but socially also. The world saw the advent of new technologies like the steam engine, railroads, factories, and textile mills. These new technologies created a new source of wealth and a new social class, the middle class or bourgeoisie. Unfortunately, this wealth was built on the backs of the working class or proletarians. The disparity between the workers and the bourgeoisie quickly widened; this environment was the perfect catalyst for driving the proletariat toward communism. If I was a member of the working class in 1848 there are several reasons "The Communist Manifesto" would be appealing.
Indeed, telling them that God’s kingdom also lives within them (Luke 17:21); whereby, lust tries to distort their intended Godly beings. Consequently, various ones continue as brute beasts in their ‘animal lust’ (Jude 1:10). Christ came directly to destroy the works of the devil (1John 3:8) that blinds people of this image of God (2 Cor 4:4). Christ’s intensity existed as being focused on people’s affliction of evil of possessions, and repetitively heals both their minds and physical bodies and the sexual destruction that lust cultivates regarding their
Temptation is a vast topic. The bible is filled with temptation from cover to cover, mostly about how God dealt with our problem of sin and giving us victory. God deals with temptation and we deal with it too. It is reality that everybody gets tempted from time to time by the devil. Jesus also was tempted but never sinned , temptations goal is to lure you away from God. There are a lot of ways the devil can tempt you, just make sure to stay focused and filled with the Spirit. And understand the goals of the devil to want to send temptation to us.

Tyler Perry’s Temptation highlights the struggles presented to a young African American woman whose strong Christian beliefs counteract a sin stricken society. The main character, Judith, attempts to overcome the difficult obstacles that were placed in her path by fighting the sexual urges that she craves. Judith came to realize that her urges began to transform from wants and desires to real actions; Judith’s deepest desires were becoming reality. The encounters Judith faced on a daily basis began as an emotional and mental attraction that led to a more physical relationship. These continuous urges began to take over Judith’s well-being as she began to fall more and more into the depths of sinful behavior. The idea of sexual freedom consumed Judith’s mind and spirit which turned her against her own religious beliefs, and eventually lead her down a path that she would regret for the rest of her life.
