In a world where the government censors all books and knowledge, replaced with advanced technology that limits people's curiosity, Guy Montag goes against this way of life by escaping his society and gains his own knowledge and individuality. Over the course of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the technology in Montag’s society affects and limits the connections and emotions shared with their families and others. In this case, Mildred and Montag's marriage and Mildred's strong bond with her parlor wall are true examples of how technology hurts and helps. To start, Mildred limited knowledge and advanced technology, she doesn’t know how to communicate to others empathy and her emotions. Montag felt sick after the rough night he had experienced at work, and complained to Mildred about why he didn’t want to miss a day. …show more content…

“Is it better?” (Bradbury,46). After Monthgs’s complaints, Mildred continuously denies that he is ill and refuses to believe that it is even possible. Instead of Mildred showing empathy after Montag’s rough night shift, she belittles the situation.. After Montag explains to Mildred that he is considering quitting his job as a fireman, Mildred is furious and shouts at Montag. “‘You want to give up everything? After all these years of working, because, one night, some woman and her books-’ ‘You should have seen her Millie!’ ‘She’s nothing to me; she shouldn’t have had books. It was her responsibility, she should've thought of that. I hate her. She’s got you going and next thing you know we’ll be out, no house, no job, nothing.’” (Bradbury, 48).
