How Spirituality helps in Resilience
The first thing one must discuss in spirituality and resilience is that spirituality is different from being religious. Religion is general traditional and organized while spirituality is how a person essential relates to their higher power. There is much debate on which will help you have more resilience and how you cope with different trauma or stressors. While still others feel that religion and spiritual resilience go hand in hand.
Different people use spirituality has a resilience tool to cope with different stressors before, during and after weathering the storms of life. Spirituality can be what holds a family together doing stressors, and stop people from feeling or being isolated, during those times of life. Spirituality can help you connect with others, as well as to connect with something bigger than yourself; it can give you a sense of purpose during what may seem like the darkest hours. Spirituality can help people find the meaning to life, through their own resilience. Spirituality for those that are religious can be your connection with God, for those that are not religious it may be the connection with nature or family. Spirituality can give a person a healthy connection to others, as well as a healthier lifestyle for example drinking or smoking less, strength during times of stress. Spirituality can help you be more optimistic thus making for lessened anxiety and depression as well as fewer suicides and a greater chance for stability in marriage. ...difficult for the single parent, they work full-time, being the sole bread winner for the family. They are both parents to their children as well as the person that takes care of the house and every other need that has to deal with family issues. The single parent usually does not get a moment of privacy, so for them to find time for spirituality much come for a deeper internal light, for most are too tired by the end of day, to pray. Way many church are bringing single parents back into spirituality is to prove day-care during evening services or special classes for that specifically speak to those that are single parents. Many single parents gravitate to prayer groups that meet in home on a regular night. This can give the single parent a release, a time to interact with other single parents. Another way spirituality can help the single parent be resilient
Psychologists usually agree that the teenage years are among the most difficult periods in one’s life. Most teens are trying to figure who they are, what they believe, and how they fit into the world around them. Beginning in the late 1970’s, a whole genre of fiction, referred to as coming-of- age literature, emerged and serves, at least for many teens, as believable presentations of young people learning to navigate the difficulties of their lives, often fraught with feelings of rejection, seemingly unresolvable personal turmoil, social problems, school and family issues, etc. Indeed one value of reading is to see and better understand some aspects of ourselves through studying others. The reading of SPEAK, a somewhat controversial book because of its subject matter – rape--, is a worthwhile endeavor in any middle school classroom and offers many valuable life lessons to young teens.
Resiliency is the ability to push through physical, mental, and emotional challenges. People should always strive to be resilient and never give up in any situation and to always stay positive
What is a single parent? Is it one who destroys their child’s life? Is it one who ultimately cannot raise a minor on their own? Or is it one who dedicates their lives to the well being of their kid? Imagine a parent, and for whatever reason they were left alone to raise a child. That parent you imagined has to work long hours just to put a meal on the table. That parent has to play the role of the mother and father. That parent has no financial support. Unfortunately, in our society, this image of a single parent is looked down upon. There are people that don’t realize how much a single parent goes through to give their child a better life.
These traumatic events can present themselves in the form of a somatic injury; psychological or physical abuse or even through natural disasters or terrorist attacks. Nevertheless, any type of traumatic event can lead to devastating lasting effects in an individual’s lifespan. Consequently, producing a distrustful view of the world, mental health symptoms and even to mislay complete trust in God. However, we are resilient beings who have the capacity to turn unfortunate circumstances into valuable experiences, but in order to be able to do that there has to be an understanding and a purpose as to why traumatic situations do happen. A connection with God can provide the answer as to why people go through this traumatic events. Understanding the purpose behind a devastating experience can stimulate the healthy psychological and physical growth of a human being. The bible provides an insight on how spirituality can lead to recovery even in the midst of traumatic experiences. 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” (Open Bible, 2015). Psalms 107: 13-16 says, “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and burst their bonds apart. Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! For he shatters
A single parent many times has so many responsibilities that they just can’t be good at all of it. A job, bills, chores, errands, appointments, activities, it all just becomes too much for a single-parent and something always seems to get the short end of the stick. Usually it is the small things that make a child feel special.
Spirituality and religion are two things that embody each other in many ways. These tenets have been around since the beginning of man. The practice of spirituality or religion takes place in almost everyone’s life at one time or another. Pope Francis at Apostolic Palace 00120, Vatican City, is the top religious leader of the day. Dalai Lama of Thekchen Complex, Teapc Road, P. O. Mcleadgani, Hemachal Pradesh, India, is the top spiritual leader. People need spirituality and religion in their lives for structure, enlightenment, joy, and happiness. These faiths are sometimes mistaken for the same thing, but spirituality and religion have very different meanings. Spirituality is the best way to practice a faith based way of life.
Religion and spirituality is a major essential part of one’s’ health. They have included things such as prayer in healing, counseling, and the use of meditation. Spiritual issues make a difference in an individual’s experience of illness and health. With spirituality, the health care providers can learn to support the values for the art of healing. The health care provider must have respect for their patient’s religion. (Larry Dossey. Healing Words: The Power of Prayer and the Practice of Medicine. Harper Collins, San Francisco. 1993.)
Spirituality hasn’t played an important role in my life thus far, as my initial understanding of the concept has always been related to religion. Growing up, my mother’s sides of the family were firm believers in god, and Christianity. Neither my mother, nor my father ever included religion into their lives, or mine. In fact, religion created a barrier within our family dynamics for as long as I can remember. My aunt was married to a priest and during our family dinners he would pull me aside to read bible versus. My parents were not happy once they realized that my uncle was doing this with me behind their backs. This marked the beginning of divergence between my mother and aunt’s side of the family. It wasn’t until my grandparents passed

...locking out the idea. Spirituality also assists in fostering a healthy patient. Many individuals believe in a higher power and therefore we as nurses should encourage that connection when we see it being made. Spiritual connections are a way to give the patient an outlet. They are able to express themselves and rely on something other than physical care and diagnoses. They are about to look to this higher being for encouragement, peace, and healing.
The practice of resiliency will differ depending on who you ask and in what situation. Being resilient is easily adapting to change, having serenity within yourself including situations around you, and using failure as motivation. A vital character trait taught in the military is resilience. If a Soldier is unable to react quickly to change during combat, it may cost them their life. Change can be stressful; being able to promptly react to it can reduce that stress. “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference” (Shapiro 2014). The Serenity Prayer guides many with its words of wisdom. Often times, people find themselves mentally trapped in situations
lives? Even if they seem to have everything they have ever wanted, not all of them started out like that. They have had to use courage and resilience to overcome difficulties. Some inspiring people that have these demonstrated courage and resilience are Eminem, Jared Padalecki, and Simone Biles.
Strength is belief. People gain strength through taught spirituality and beliefs. This could be by believing in a religion or believing in a God. Religious people have a sense of spirituality strength with God, and those people believe that God will be there to guide them and to help them on their way through the tough times. Spirituality grows over time by love, faith, and hope that are felt during a personal experience. Love is one of the many ways that grow society spiritually. When a person believes positive and good; when they always do the right thing no matter what they think the outcome may be; when they give their all to help the wellbeing of others; that is when there is a great sense of spiritual strength in humanity. When people are successful in knowing what will help them grow, that’s when spirituality shines. Giving love and friendship to others makes humans grow spiritually. Love gives the strength to believe the good in others and to not be afraid to fight battles alone. Friendship provides the strength to trust others and be o...
Single Parent Struggle For many years, children growing up in a single parent family have been viewed as different. Being raised by only one parent seems impossible to many yet over the decades it has become more prevalent. In today’s society many children have grown up to become emotionally stable and successful whether they had one or two parents to show them the rocky path that life bestows upon all human beings. The problem lies in the difference of children raised by single parents versus children raised by both a mother and a father.
According to Hutchison (2015), “religion is symbolic patterns that consists of values, beliefs, behaviors and experiences” (p. 184). I personal conceptualize spirituality as a vital role in my life that helps me during a time of sickness, forgiveness, and needed guidance. Spirituality helps guide me throughout life during the difficult times I have encountered. Spirituality impacts my life in positive ways that influence and regulate my behavior and health. Health is very important to me; I believe the spirit can heal a person from their sickness. It seems that the spirit heals me every time I pray to be healed from sickness. The spirit gives me strength at a time of weakness. When I feel at my lowest point in life I call on the spirit to pick
