Animal Farm Essay Snowball the boar, a leader of animal farm, loved by his fellow comrades, is conflicted by Napoleon and his decisions throughout the story. In Animal farm by George Orwell, the revolution against the humans creates new opportunities for the farm, but also formulates conflict, Snowball is faced with important decisions for the better of the farm, and competes with other animals to lead the group. Although Snowball isn’t the biggest or hardest working animal on the farm, he is one of the most intelligent, and he is a great leader, which shows how leadership is just as important as hard work. When Snowball becomes a leader of the farm, he makes plans to get the work done on the farm so that the animals have food, water and comfort while living there. Using his leadership, he convinces the animals do all do their share of work so that they can maintain the farm. “The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others. With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume the leadership.” (23). Snowball has superior knowledge and which is a needed component in leadership. He shows the hard workers what they need to do, without a leader like Snowball; the workers wouldn't know what to do. Even though Snowball did not do much labor on the farm, he did many other things to aid the farm to be more organized and efficient. “Snowball also busied himself with organizing the other animals into what he called Animal Committees. He was indefatigable at this. He formed the Egg Production Committee for the hens, the Clean Tails League for the cows, the Wild Comrades’ Re-education Committee (the object of this was to tame the rats and rabbits), the Whiter Wool Movement for the sheep, and various others,” (27). Snowball demonstrates his leadership by taking his own time to advance the farm; by creating Committees that will better the farm be more organized and efficient.
