Secrets by their very definition are truths that are not mean to be known by others. As a result of that, if what is being held in is shocking or revealing, it can be destructive. When the truth behind a secret is revealed, it can lead to a break in trust between people, and conflicts that shouldn’t have happened.
The main reason people have secrets is because they don’t want other people to know something that they do. In the case of Lance Armstrong, his 7 years of Tour de France wins were erased when his illegal doping came to light. This secret led to his reputation being ruined, and along with other cases of doping, it led to a lot of mistrust of the Tour de France. Since it was kept as a secret, all it did was destroy 7 years’ worth of cycling history and ruin people’s trust in the sport. Secrets as a whole can almost always lead to mistrust, because whatever is being withheld from other is being hidden for a reason, and that reason is typically negative.
