The text “Dougy” contains an extremely alarming amount of racist acts. There are many notable examples of this, but to begin with Gracey’s race will be noted. In Brisbane everything was going well up until Gracey’s race had finished. After this happened Gracey’s friend Tanya suddenly changed from what Gracey had thought of her as she suddenly got very angry. Her friends tried to calm her down but she made an unmistakably racist comment stating that is was her fate to get beaten by “a natural from the bush who chases goannas for lunch” - James Moloney, 2009, Page 51. Another example of racism in dougy is when Johnny Warren was harshly blamed for attacking Melissa Brodie with no evidence. This ultimately started a chain of events that lead to
the gunfight. However, worse than that is the fact that after they discovered that Melissa actually just fell off a motorbike and still continued the gunfight, in hope to kill innocent aboriginals, made the whole side of the gunfight for the non-indigenous a major hate crime which is the worst type of racism of all. There are many more racist examples in the text “Dougy”.

When you hear the words Institutionalized Racism what comes to your mind? Do you think of things such as a corrupt Justice system or do you think of how the system is set up for black to fail? Institutionalized Racism is a form of racism that is manifest in the practice of social, political, and cultural institutions. It is also practiced by individuals or in informal social groups that are governed by behavioral norms that support racist policies. This form of racism happens on a daily basis throughout the world; just because you do not know the proper terminology does not mean it is not happening. Even though I have not had a personal experience with institutionalized racism, I feel the pain and heartache for the ones that have experienced it because it could have been one of my loved ones.
The roots of racism lie deep in American culture and many citizens live in fear of racist threats. From Jim Crow laws to Black Codes, the oppression of black people was dominant in the society that Richard Wright grew up in. Throughout Black Boy, there are many instances of black oppression and for the amusement of white people. What is Reverse Racism? Does it exist today? When people refer to the term “reverse” racism it is defined as prejudice or discrimination directed against a member of a dominant or privileged racial group according to the Oxford Dictionary. The Oxford Dictionary also states that racism is defined as the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. While some may argue that reverse racism still exists today, others might consider otherwise. Anybody can be racist regardless of the color of your skin, you can even be racist within those of your own race. Reverse racism does not exist because it supports the idea that "normal" racism always has a dominant group normally referred to as Caucasians as the perpetrator and any other race as the victim which is incorrect.
