Strength One- (skill): Passing
Within my chosen activity of football i have decided to highlight passing as one of my strengths. Passing is the action of passing the ball to another team member.
Passing in football is the most important skill for a successful team to have. The two most important passes to make are the push pass and the long pass.
The Push pass is sometimes referred to as a direct pass; this is probably one of the most-used passes in a football game. It tends to be a safe pass, as you want your team to retain the ball so the other team can start to tire. This is typically executed when you are near your teammates. The best technique for the push pass is to first plant your non-kicking foot alongside the ball and point it in the direction you want the ball to go. Fartlek running involves varying your pace throughout your run, alternating between fast segments and slow jogs. The workload can either be measured in time or distance e.g sprint 100m or sprint for 20seconds then jog for 1minute. Fartlek training can also take place over different terrains.
Football is a game that lasts for 90minutes plus added time with short and quick burst of speed so it’s important you work on your overall speed and endurance. This allows a player to go and support the attack when the team is higher up the pitch but if they lose the ball and the other team go on the counter the player will quickly sprint back into his role to win the ball back
Fartlek training would suit this midfield player as it’s easy to carry out and doesn’t require any specialist equipment. This person would just simple go to a local park and start running with the help of a coach or a friend to help them with the
Last of all, the foward pass changed football forever. Before it became popular, most teams thought passing was useless. But after a while, passing started becoming the major emphasis in football. No longer did teams have to run the ball all the time, but now they could also pass.
The targeting rule in college football could be the “most significant rule” change ever made in the game (Matter). According to Greg Johnson of the NCAA, the rule was passed by the Football Rules Committee of the NCAA in February of 2013 to be implemented with the 2013 fall football season and is consistent with the committees’ continued attempt to address player safety. The new rule now places a tougher penalty on the defensive player for dangerous contact with the offensive player, notably direct helmet-to-helmet hits, or hits aimed above the shoulders of the offensive player. This direct, helmet-to-helmet contact is known as targeting. Although the implementation of the new targeting rule is controversial, it will help to reduce the number of serious lifelong head injuries to football players and make college football a safer sport.
Strength doesn’t always determine how far someone can throw a football. The better your form is and the angle you throw the ball is more important than your arm strength. Scientists have come up with the shape of a football for it to travel the best in a tight spiral. When the ball is being thrown, it follows a curved path called a parabola. Gravity is forced upon the ball at the end of the ball’s path, forcing it to curve down at the highest point.
The majority of children who play football will not avoid the inevitable and most likely sustain an injury to their body. However, there are some positive attributes for children to learn when participating in youth football. Some positive attributes children will learn are physical fitness, discipline and structure, and the importance of teamwork. Cross country is not a hard sport, contrary to popular belief. People often think that you have to be born with the stamina needed for running four or five miles at a time. There are so many different things people think is necessary, like running sprints, heavy miles or lifting weights and building strength, but in reality these things are minor. Although being physically fit is idealistic, it is not the most important thing needed to be successful because having a well-balanced, nutritious diet, pacing yourself and setting a strategy, and having the right positive attitude can put you in the shape to be a successful cross country runner.
