This is usually a bigger topic for minorities such as blacks, Asians, and Hispanics, who seem to think that cops have it out for them. There are quite a few cases involving police brutality going on today. The reason it is such a hot issue is due to the violence against minorities, but especially the African Americans. Police brutality is defined as “the unnecessary force by police officer against citizens, resulting in injury” (Peak, 1947, p. 162). That is the most worldwide view of police brutality because a lot of individuals are either injured or killed while the police are trying to apprehend them. The way this issue can be addressed if we look at, is it excessive force or acceptable force and what can be done to prevent people dying by the hands of the police.
Police brutality has been a significant issue for many years.. The people affected by this most of all, are people of color. They are subject to racial inequality by the police and the justice system every day. They are being killed everyday simply for existing. The excessive force used by the police specifically towards African Americans is continuous; with the justice system doing close to nothing to change that. This is one of the reasons they continue to kill and harass African Americans. According to Propublica, young black males are about twenty times more likely to be shot and killed by the police than their white peers are. Murderers are walking free, and innocent lives are being taken. Over the past couple of years, thousands of people have been killed on the hands of the police, both black and white.

The involvement of officers in police brutality against minority groups causes tainted and negative views on policing. This reduces their ability to protect and serve the community. Police brutality is a violent incident involving an officer and a victim, usually including excessive force, unnecessary violence and sometimes resulting in a senseless fatality. Minority groups such as African Americans and Hispanics have often been the victims of this form of abuse by officers, however little justice has been done in order to protect these individuals from this form of cruelty by the hands of those with the most power.

The three key deaths of Eric Garner, Philando Castile, and Alton Sterling have become the face of police brutality in the year 2016. People knew that it was unequal treatment of black people by police in the United States and they made it known by creating #BlackLivesMatter.

In the U.S. police brutality has been going on forever, lots of people have died because of police forces throughout the country. There are more than one reason for this injustice. Race, Age, Religion, and sex are main parts of why this happens, not in other places in the world but in the U.S. 776 people were killed by police so far in 2015, 161 of them were unarmed. Another twenty percent said they know someone who had been physically abused by the police (Alpert and Smith, 2001). Studies shown that people are mistreated by police and the use of excessive force. The use of force and training is applied to protect the public and police. Also, deadly force plays a role in this as well. Over the past year society has heard of a few cases that deadly force played a role in. For example, Michael Brown was an unarmed African American male who was resisting arrest, but had no weapon to harm anyone. Deadly force was used on Brown because of his size. Yet, that does not justify the fact that an officer should be able to use deadly force on anyone because of their size or even because they are resisting arrest. Without a sign of endangerment, a police officer should not be able to use deadly force. Some people may disagree on the fact that officers should be able to use deadly force no matter what the circumstance is, but if there is not an physical harm being done then police should not be able to use deadly force. However, some people might wonder when is force reasonable? This determination comes down to the officer before using any force. Generally, the use of force is usually necessary when someone is resisting arrest, detain a suspect, or to protect others.
