What is Motivation? Is it about how hard you want something the drive you have to achieve that one task that has been on your mind since you could think for yourself or is that one long driven thing you come put all your effort into? But actually motivation is defined by Psychology today. It says “Motivation is literally the desire to do things. It's the difference between waking up before dawn to pound the pavement and lazing around the house all day. It's the crucial element in setting and attaining goals—and research shows you can influence your own levels of motivation and self-control. So figure out what you want, power through the pain period, and start being who you want to be.” While our motivations actually come from the interchange between nature and nurture we consider four perspectives when we are trying decipher different motivation behaviors. The first is the instinct theory which basically focuses on the genetically given behaviors. The second theory is the Drive-reduction theory which differentiates or determines how Nature and Nurture both interact with each other. Next is the Arousal theory which focuses on finding the right level of stimulation in the human body. And lastly the final Concept is not a theory but actually a hierarchy of needs. Basically states how some of the needs and wants we have take over other things that may be a priority. Charles Darwin in the 20th century to classify all behaviors and traits as instincts. A instinct is defined by the book as “A complex behavior that is rigidly patterned throughout a species and is unlearned” To me what this means is that a instincts is something that you really cannot avoid it just happen yes it is possible to break to instinct’s but they always start ou... ... middle of paper ... ...s all about wanting to belong in the School and by my team I loved basketball but I felt like the only reason I loved basketball was because the admiration it came with basketball was a huge peer pressure moment of my life I only liked it because it made me popular and once I broke my ankle I knew who my real friends were and the only people I could count on was my teammates and my family that was the only group at the end of the day I wanted to belong to. Speaking of family that is the only group of people you really need I want you to know that family will never leave you so you don’t need to belong to any other groups or organization that is the truth I am happy to be a part of a great and loving family that is pushing me to be great every day of my life that is what I want to belong to only and ever in my life a great and loving family and I am happy for that.
I play basketball, not only because it gives me a source of exercise, but it also allows me to be engaged in a competitive atmosphere again. To play basketball, you start knowing little and learn from your coach a lot more. It is important to learn how the game works from the different techniques of the game to the rules, goals, and communication that come with the game of basketball.
Michael Jordan once said “I will not let anything get in the way of me and my competitive enthusiasm to win”. This have help people of all ages get through their burdens and do something they love instead of doing some negative. For many people basketball has become more than a game, it’s the way of life. The American game of basketball has traveled now, it’s played by more than 250 million people worldwide.
Ever since I have been a child I have always loved basketball.I spent hours each day playing basketball. I dreamt of playing at the TD Garden as a member of the Boston Celtics against their bitter Eastern Conference foe Cleveland Cavaliers led by LeBron James. All throughout middle school I would ignore everyone when they told me that I couldn't make it to the NBA.
Motivation and Emotion (pg. 354) both play an important part in our daily life. Motivation helps us understand why we do things a certain way or why our behaviors change unexpectedly. While emotion shows our relationships with others and our health, and making important decisions. Motivation comes from the latin word “movere” which means to move where one starts on activities until one's psychological needs are fulfilled. An example in the chapter is “when a person is relaxed in front of the television and begins to feel hungry, the physical need for food might cause the person to get up, go into the kitchen, and search for something to eat”(Ciccarelli). But, there are two different types of motivation, extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. In
When you look at a basketball what do you see? Most would see an orange, sphere, shaped rubber ball. There are black lines and real leather. If you look closer, you would even see the size of the ball in which you are playing with. A basketball could be just a toy for many, or even represent a release for others, but for me, it means a lot more. A basketball represents my blood, sweat, tears, passion, sacrifice, and most of all, a sense of belonging, like a family. At this moment in my life, there are only three things I devote my life to- family, friends, and basketball. Basketball has shaped my life probably more than anything else. Basketball has instilled in me a vicious will to achieve and embrace my ambitions instead of fearing them. Basketball gave me an open opportunity to try something new. New opportunities and experiences are not such a big deal anymore. From academics to personal matters, the lessons that I have learned from basketball has impacted my life.
According to Spector (2012), motivation is, “an internal state that induces a person to engage in particular behaviors” (p. 188). From one perspective it involves three components: direction, intensity, and persistence. Direction is “the choice of specific behaviors from a larger number of possible behaviors” (p .188). Intensity refers to “the amount of effort a person expends on doing a task” (p. 188). Persistence can be defined as, “the continuing engagement in a behavior over time” (p. 188). Basically, motivation is a drive that causes a person to act upon their desire, and involves direction, intensity, and persistence. There are several theories of motivation, including need theories, expectancy theory, self-efficacy theory, justice theory, goal-setting theory, control theory, and action theory. My person personal motivation can be applied to each of these theories.

Instinct theories completely highlight the biology of motivation and state that this kind of motivation comes from our individual biological programming that is the same amongst individuals of the same species. This theory is therefore about our motivation to survive and that all organisms are born with specific hereditary knowledge about how to survive. Instincts can thus be called actions that arise from our genetic code.
As soon as the summer going into highschool hit, things made a complete one eighty. I went to work under the varsity coach. He was a tough man to work under. He loved, ate, breathed basketball. For him in a way basketball was life. He had a temper and was not afraid to show it. Basketball was no longer fun but a sense of hardwork and skill.
Motivation is a force which pushes a person to take a particular course of action, i.e. being motivated to go to school, to get something out of it, be it, to learn new things or just to get a good job out of it at the end which will bring high earnings.
First, there are a variety of things that I enjoy in life, many of which, I am the primary participant, but for basketball, the love can be different. Basketball is one of the most popular sports in America. One has to have to have good aim to shoot, good jumping skills to rebound, you have to be quick and have great ball handling skills. The best thing that I like about this sport is that you could break down the game into tons of statistics that truly bring something to the table because samples are usually good enough unlike many other sports. I loved that its faced paced; and the fact that it is not dominated by one position. Any player can be the top scorer at any given sporting event on the beginning or professional level. The game gives
Motivation can be defined as the inner power or drive that pushes one towards taking a particular course of action. It is much related to desire and ambition and they all work in tandem (Sasson, 2001). Motivation is influenced or caused by factors known as motivators. According to Sigmund Freud, we are compelled to act by unconscious forces within us, which he called our id (Hofstede, 1980).
Basketball is my favorite sport. It’s calming when i’m not busy. I like to learn anything new about basketball. It’s a sport I will always go to whenever I need to get some off my mind. I play it because it's a very popular sport worldwide. I started when I was in the 4th grade and I liked it ever since.
Basketball is my favorite sport. It changed me to try my best. Together in basketball we win and lose. Together in basketball we have fun and meet new kids. Together in basketball we run and shoot around. Basketball has made an impact in my life.
