Kindness and compassion are two words that can have a lasting impact on people, especially coming from a manager to his or her employees and vice versa. It also helps if employees are warm-hearted and forgiving towards their co-workers as well. The purpose of this assignment is to provide an example of an act of kindness, compassion, and forgiveness toward others in the workplace. Kindness, compassion, and forgiveness are characteristics of the new man. Colossians 3:12 states, “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering (NKJV).” As Christians who represent God on this earth, individuals must clothe themselves with gentleness and affection. In so doing, people will strengthen their character and exemplify Christ in their actions. Ephesians 4:32 states, “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you (NKJV).” Christians are commanded to be kind, compassionate, and forgiving it is embedded in the DNA of all born-again believers. Jesus Christ provided the perfect example of forgiveness, empathy, care, and concern for fellow men and women. Kindness and compassion must be presented in two ways. These two modes are emotional kindness and …show more content…
Having been employed and dedicated to this company for ten years, one of the hardest things the writer had to do, was to forgive the owners. In fact, they were deceptive in the way they handled this situation. Yes, the flesh wanted to rule and reign and not show compassion or forgiveness; but thanks to the Word of God that was hidden in the writer’s heart, Christians values were upheld. Luke 6:35 states, “But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil
Hill points out that all of these topics are in today’s business market. They should be addressed and recognized by Christians today. For most people, their work is a key factor in their self-worth, family esteem and identity. Workplace ethics and behavior are a central part of employment, as both are aspects that can help assist a business in its efforts to be gainful. Every business in every industry has certain guidelines and procedures to which its employees must follow. We must always remember that no matter who you are, where you come from, or where you are going, you are no better than the next person, when it comes to making mistakes and sinning. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans
Forgiveness is a character trait needed for this standard. “...and we repeatedly asked ourselves: Are you able to accept blows without retaliating?” (8) Dr.King says they need to forgive the people that put them down. Forgiveness is not easily given by a person, so it is harder to forgive than hate. A person who constantly express forgiveness is Jesus Christ. “Love your enemies bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you and pray for them which despitefully use you ,and persecute you.” (27) In the quote it explains that Jesus has been put down many times but always got back up and forgave his enemies. That is why Jesus Christ is a hero to Dr.King. There are more ways to be heroic than rising up to a challenge true heros fall and stand back
The Christian faith focuses on the orientation of the human heart behind human thoughts and actions. Living by faith is a beautiful alternative to the way people think of themselves and the way they live in relation to others in their daily lives (Merrick, 2014). Christians see themselves in terms of God’s profound love for them but not in terms of what they do. The teachings of the Christian faith; nonviolence, non-retaliation, inward integrity, selflessness, and love your neighbor as yourself provide the framework for ethical thinking. Although, adopting belief in Christianity can bring forth confusion in the heart and mind causing agony of learning to sacrifice one’s rightful claims for personal justice for the restoration of another (Merrick, 2014). Unconditional forgiveness is difficult to understand because spiritual forgiveness and actual costly forgiveness is viewed as the same in the gospel. If you do not forgive, then one does not have faith in God’s forgiveness as it really is. Christianity influences a person thinking and behavior developing wisdom which requires faith. The faith that is needed to reorient the heart away from selfishness to selflessness.
It's difficult not to be cynical about how “big business” treats the subject of ethics in today's world. In many corporations, where the only important value is the bottom line, most executives merely give lip service to living and operating their corporations ethically.
The article identifies three primary features of self-compassion; self-kindness, common humanity and mindfulness. (Neff, 2003)
Nobel Peace Prize winner, Desmond Tutu, once said “frequently people think compassion and love are merely sentimental. No! They are very demanding. If you are going to be compassionate, be prepared for action” (values.com). When one thinks of compassion, sympathy and sorrow come to mind. However, compassion also is accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering. This can be accomplished by standing up for what one believes is right. Throughout the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee deeply develops her theme that compassion is understanding someone else’s perspective and using this compassion to stand up against society.

Effective Altruism is a combination of philosophy and social movement that involved moral values to improving the global, for example, poverty, death of disease and starvation. The values of effective altruism consist open-mindedness, critical thinking, and global empathy. Which means, doing things that bring largest positive influence, applying evidence and aim to identify the effective ways, and valued all lives. In Singer’s speech, he said that "Effective Altruism is combined with head and heart. Define how necessary it is and doing in a right direction. Singers also gave examples of a two-year-old girl who has hit by two truck and preventable disease--Malaria." (TED, 2013) Like, “the ripple effect” (TED,
In Christianity, the emphasis is placed on love of God rather than on obeying his will. People must believe that God is merciful and loves them as well. As a reflection of God’s love, people must also love other people (and the whole humanity in general) and forgive their enemies.
Prosociality can be defined as a wide umbrella of behaviors and attitudes that are generally positive towards other people. Prosociality fits into the “Big Five” set of traits under agreeableness. This is still a broad term, but it is broken up into two major categories, which are politeness and compassion. Politeness is more like the tendency to respect people, conform to social norms, and ignore aggressive impulses. However, generosity tends to fit under compassion better. Compassion is the tendency to have concern for others and the urge to help them. A series of games were created in order to point out the differences in generosity and reciprocity. A major outcome that was found in this study is that humans care for the needs of others and have the want to help them. A study was created to find new social preferences, find differences in these preferences, and address limitations. The results show that social preferences for someone who is tolerant and forgiving, therefore portraying
The virtue of kindness is not meek it is not niceness. Kindness holds firm to its foundation and values, but it does it in a way that is gentle. Kindness is not naïve, it is wise and discerning (Corey, 211). People confuse being nice as kindness because on the outside both are soft. The inside is what shows the difference. Niceness has no substance, it will go wherever society takes it. Kindness is different, it has a firm, solid center (Corey xv). The components of soft edges and firm centers make kindness warm and inviting and yet it remains deeply rooted to its core beliefs.
Be Merciful (Luke 6:31). "Be merciful just as your father is merciful." (Matthew 5:7): "Happy are those who are merciful to others; God will be merciful to them." The passage s teaches us mainly about being merciful to our enemy and God will be merciful toward us. Forgiveness of kind especially toward our enemy. We should not harm others even if they done bad things against us. We should show compassion towards others because if we don't people might not show compassion towards us. The passage told us that Jesus is merciful even towards his enemies. Perfect example of this is forgiving Jusus' enemy when he was put on the cross. Jesus even prayed for them to not punish them.
As Christians, we are to be redemptive agents for God. Just as God showed us grace and mercy. By the sacrifice of his only son, Jesus Christ, and through his blood saved us from our sins. To then be reborn in salvation. We too are responsible to show grace and mercy to our fellow man. In both cases, we are presented with the opportunity to show grace and mercy.
A strong Christian lesson on the true nature of forgiveness can be found in Christ’s Sermon on the Mount:
The characteristics brought forth in the book revolve around the ideas of Christianity and so they are not new ideas, but are ideas that were re-imagined for the current world. The basis of the book’s ideas comes mostly out of I Corinthian’s chapter 13 which is often quoted as the “love” chapter. This chapter speaks about how important love is in the Christian faith. However, Hunter (1998) brings forth knowledge of the different types of love from the Greek words used in the Bible. The type that is most important according to “the teacher” from the book is the agape love. This love is the most important kind because it is the kind of love we are meant to show to each and every person no matter who they are or what their position is in life (Hunter, 1998). This author strongly believes that agape love guides and acts as one of the foundations for servant leadership. Without this love for each person we cannot truly serve their needs and help them become the best possible version of themselves. The struggle is of course to treat each person we meet with agape love because it is not always easy to love everyone we meet. It is important, however, that we as nurses act in agape love to ensure that our patients receive the best care possible on their way to optimum
