In Choice 1, there is a clear juxtaposition between the two images. On the left, a picture of a cheerful chicken with baby chicks is portrayed in gentle lighting and soft colours. There is a small symbol of a crow in the corner, associating the Crow Corporation with smiling animals. The people purchasing the food imagine its origin as just this, when in fact, revealed in the next image are chickens in inadequate conditions. Crow robots with red beaming eyes, injecting a chicken in dark, dull factory settings. The black and red colour scheme is one linked with villains, evil and black widow spiders. The mirage of carefree chickens is displayed when in actuality, the Crow Corporation is serving chemically infused poultry. This drastic juxtaposition
is able to achieve the element of suspense and a startling compare and contrast. The overall idea of the commercial was meant to promote food that is local, good food, the audience wants to be resourced their food is the highest quality. It demonstrates how certain businesses advertise a false version of their produce, such as the “happy chickens”. The scarecrow represents the advertiser Chipotle, he sets off making his own food, freshly picked from his own garden, locally sourced, dramatically opposing the image of a chicken in laboratory conditions. The scarecrow’s food is correlated to Chipotle’s with its red baskets and carries along all the other ideals of fresh, natural food, creating a successful commercial through the juxtapositioned illustrations.
Racial difference, sexual tension and violence are well-used messages exemplified by imagery throughout the text. The novel holds imagery to give the reader a visual perspective of the theme and message, trying to be portrayed. Throughout the text the reference to meat is an explicit image used for many different angles within the theme of racism. Gary black refers to meat as a description for the character pickles
The short story, “The White Heron” and the poem, “A Caged Bird” are both alike and different in many ways. In the next couple of paragraphs I will explain these similarities and differences and what makes them unique to the stories.
The presence of birds in the first passage of The Awakening seems to foreshadow some of the characteristics of the protagonist. It is rather interesting that the parrot is outdoors, while the mockingbird is inside. Perhaps this would represent the presence of opposites in this novel. The parrot seems to be provoking the mockingbird in order to get some sort of response. This seems to point to the presence of loneliness which the protagonist feels. However he is being rather anti social by stating “Allez vous-en! Alez Vous! Saprisit! That’s all right!” I may be wrong, but I believe that means “Go Away! Go Away! Damn it” in French. This altercation between the parrot and the mockingbird could point to the presence of a jealous conflict within the characters. On the surface it seems that the parrot is rather agitated that the mockingbird, a bird that is generally found outdoors, is inside while the parrot, a domesticated pet is kept outside. Ironically though both birds are actually trapped with the parrot being held in the cage and the mockingbird being trapped indoors. The cage symbolizes being trapped whether literally or figuratively. Also the presence of characters that are not understood by their surroundings might shed some light on the inner conflict of the novel. It is also useful to point out that the parrot, a bird which mimics it’s surroundings is being mimicked by a bird which also mimics, such as a mockingbird. The may point to the possible presence of a theme of mimicry in this novel.
In the video “My Life As a turkey”, naturalist Joe Hutto begin an experiment on behaviors of animals, especially turkey. From the birth to the adulthood of the turkey, Hutto stayed with the turkeys side by side to nurture them.
I will compare the emotions that both artworks send to the viewers when they first look at them. When I look at the portray 1, I fell sadness. That’s what the artwork is conveying to me. No one in the picture is happy or smiling. Everyone is sad, upset or indifferent. When we look at their gaze, the father is looking traight away, with tired eyes. His gesture shows that he doesn’t want to hear what his wife has to say and is asking her to stop. The mother’s gaze is on something in front of them. Her eyes are big and she seems to be giving more attention to things than the man. She seems sad sad to be spoken that way. On portray 2, the atmosphere is visibly different. The man and woman have a little smile on their faces and the kids are playing next to them. The people in the portray don’t look indifferent to each other or sad like in the other portray, they look pleased and caring. The man and women gaze are relaxed and they seem to be enjoying themselves. They are looking straight away in a pose as if someone is taking a picture of them. The kids gaze are in their
The large ground finches have a higher curve while the medium ground finches have a smaller head and a tiny beak. The place in which the finches live is what changes their appearances and also the weather helps decide the appearance of these finches.
The idea of writing at any school level or in life is seen more as a grueling task than enjoyable experience. In the novel, Bird by Bird, the author Anne Lamott is speaking to a generation of writers, who may be struggling with the process. The content is rich with stories to help the writer analyze his or her own life to add it to their writing style, a concept that may be hard for some people. Bird by Bird is an effective book, because Lamott includes not only writing tips, but a sense of humor along with life advice.
The artist used colors and light to draw one’s attention to the diner and the people in it and then to the only character not facing the viewer. This emphasis with the use of colors and light means “that our attention is drawn more to certain parts of a composition than to others” (Getlein 127); when the emphasis is on “a relatively small, clearly defined area” (Getlein 127) this is called a focal point. The focal point in this piece of art is not only the brightly lit diner sitting on the corner of an empty intersection, but also within the diner, where the eye is drawn to the individuals in the diner. In addition, the woman stands out in particular because of her red dress and the bright color of her
The symbols of the scarecrows and birds of fine song and feather, the knitting, and the Gorgon’s head help with the theme because they demonstrate how man can be cruel and unfeeling toward his fellow citizen. The symbols help in understanding the theme that both the aristocrats and the peasants are capable of being apathetic and cruel. The symbols also aid in reading and understanding the plot. Both the symbols and the theme enhance the plot and help in comprehending the characters. In short, evil is present everywhere, and terrible things happen to bad and good people.
“It is cruel, you know, that music should be so beautiful. It has the beauty of loneliness of pain: of strength and freedom. The beauty of disappointment and never-satisfied love. The cruel beauty of nature and everlasting beauty of monotony.” –Benjamin Britten music is powerful to all; it affects everyone differently, whether that is positively or negatively. We reminisce on past events through melodies and lyrics. Music has the ability to intensify pleasure and plaster despondency. All musicians have had the ability to impact the history of music and the future implications of music through a personalized method. Not only did the Yardbirds, as a whole, change musical history but also the individual members created an enormous impact on other musicians of their time period, and the way future generations view music in general.
“Mother Hens Cluck: Cell Phones Support Learning” has stronger evidence and reasons. In the article they have many logical reasons along with evidence. For example, the author used the reason “They have the right to access a simple tool that can help make things easier for them.”, this reason make sense because it helps explain her claim of “My students have the right to use their cell phones at school as much as I do”. The evidence she used for the first claim was “I use it all the time, for everything both professionally. Why should've to my students?” This evidence is very logical because it is proving that if the teacher can use a phone, the students should be able to as well. Another reason she used was “Many of my kids have challenges
Campbell’s Soup Cans was the first of several works created with this theme. The thirty two paintings are very similar, each one of them has a realistic image of the iconic red and white can of Campbell’s soup over a white background. The paintings have minor variations in the names that indicate the flavor of each soup. The majority of these are written with red letters; however, four varieties have additional black letters, like the “Clam Chowder” painting that says “Manhattan Style” in black letter under the name. The “Beef” flavor can also has black letters indicating that it is made “With Vegetables and Barley”, while the “Scotch Broth” has black letters that say “A Hearty Soup”, and the “Minestrone” can has “Italian-Style Vegetable Soup” also written in this color. In addition, there are two flavors that have words in parenthesis written in red letters under the type of soup. One of them is the “Beef Broth” tha...
One particularly warm evening last summer, I walked into my backyard to relax and enjoy some fresh air. Instead, I was greeted by the loud shriek of a chicken. We had an uninvited guest in our vegetable garden. Unfortunately, such chicken invasions are a common occurrence in many areas of Stockton, California. Throughout the United States, municipalities small and large are debating whether or not they should enact residential livestock ordinances, specifically in regards to poultry. Considering that they are often a public nuisance and pose a health risk, local officials should consider restricting the private ownership of chickens in heavily populated urban areas.
Chicken farms need more government regulation for causing damage to both human and animal health and for being detrimental to the environment. Chicken farms produce large amounts of fecal matter that heavily contaminate waterways that are used for drinking. In the Delmarva Peninsula alone 3.2 billion pounds of raw waste, 13.8 million pounds of phosphorous, and 48.2 million pounds of nitrogen are released into the environment (Intensive Poultry Production).. These nutrients enter bodies of water causing eutrophication, which causes an explosion of algal blooms that die and require large amounts of oxygen to decompose. This increase in oxygen consumption creates ‘dead zones’ in many areas, most notably in the Gulf of Mexico, where there is not enough oxygen to sustain aquatic life.(Facts about Pollution from Livestock Farms). U.S. chicken producers use a total of 2.2 million pounds of the antibiotic arsenic compound, roxarsone (appositive), each year. Most of this compound passes through the chickens and into their excrement. The arsenic that is left in the excrement can leach into surface and groundwater supplies and become inorganic arsenic, a known carcinogen. This waste can also enter waterways, killing hundreds of fish. Inside the chicken farms, large amounts ammonia and dust particulates are released into the air, which can cause moderate to severe respiratory problems in humans. When waste pools are filled, the companies spray liquid waste into the air that mists and carries over to human populations that inhale these toxic gases and become ill. (Meat Production Wastes Natural Resources), Chicken farms also waste resources due to the fact that many crops, such as soybeans, are grown to be feed for livestock. Only 20% of the ...
Birds have direct and indirect economic and cultural values for people. Birds are important for a lot of reasons. Birds provide us food, medicine, fertilizers and also bring about pollinations. They are important because they are a part of the food chain. Birds are also important because they help spread seeds around and thus help with the planting process. Birds also perform vital ecological role, besides their economical role. They are critical links within the fast food chains and webs that exist in the ecosystem. The economic importance of birds can be studied into two parts – A) Beneficial effect B) Harmful effect.
