Immigration is the international movement of people into a country that they are not natives to. This topic is a common subject in many texts. Even though they might talk about the same topic, not all texts portray the subject of immigration the same way. The texts, “Red Umbrella”, and “Band-aid for 800 Children” both have immigration as the main subject and they portray the subject in both similar and different ways.
Both texts portray immigration similarly and differently. One example of how they are similar is they both are based on true events. “Red Umbrella” is about a family during the Cuban revolution, and, “Band-aid for 800 Children” is about someone today that takes care of the kids that were born in the U.S but their parents were
deported. This shows that they are similar. Another example of how the two texts are similar is that in both stories the parents had to make hard decisions that benefited the kids the most. For example, in, “Red Umbrella” the parents sacrificed ever seeing their kids again so their kids can have a better life and send them to America. In the story, it said, “True, but I’d rather have you safe, living with a good family in the U.S., than staying in your own country with these godforsaken soldiers.” This tells the reader that the parents would rather have their kids leave then have them suffer in their home country. In, “Band-Aid for 800 Children” the parents made a decision to keep their kids in America instead of taking them back to their home country. That shows how both texts made a decision being made in search of a better life for their kids. One final example of how the two texts are similar to each other is that both texts portray kids being separated from their parents. In, “Red Umbrella, the girls are being separated from their parents, and in, “Band-Aid for 800 Children” the lady is taking care of kids that were separated from their parents. Although the two texts are similar, they are also very different. For example, the texts are written from two different perspectives. In, “Red Umbrella” the story is told by a young girl who is being sent off to America, and in, “Band-Aid for 800 Children” it is told by a woman who is taking care of kids who were separated from their parents. Another example of how the two texts are different is the time the texts took place. “Band-Aid for 800 Children”, takes place about 5 years ago and, “Red Umbrella” takes place about 60 years ago. This shows that after 55 years, not much has changed with immigration. One last example of how the two excerpts are different is the approach the author used to get certain readers. For example in, “Red Umbrella” the author used dialogue and characterization to appeal to readers emotional side such as, “Papá turned to me. “Lucy, please understand. It’s the only way to protect you.” He placed his hand on my back, but I pulled away.” “Band-aid for 800 Children” used facts and data to appeal to readers logical side. For example, it said, “She has to prepare lunch for 120 children, deliver school supplies to 13 others, drop five off at schools across greater Miami, help find housing for three, take two to doctor appointments, one to a psychologist and one to visit a parent detained for immigration violations.” This shows how two texts can portray the same exact topic in two very different ways. In conclusion, the two texts showed how a subject can be from many views. Reading about immigration is important because it can help you learn about many different people. It is important to know many different views of a topic so that you know everyone's opinion on it.
Recently illegal immigration has become a very pressing issue among people. Many people around the borders are being greatly affected by the issue and think immediate action needs to be taken to put a stop to the issue. The Documentary Border War: Battle Over Illegal Immigration takes a stand on the issue using many examples of pathos, ethos, and logos to try and persuade people that illegal immigration is a very serious issue and we need to put a stop to it. This documentary follows the lives of people who have been affected by illegal immigration, and explains how they feel about the issue. Another way that people can look at the issue of illegal immigration is through the eyes of the immigrants, and the reasons why they might be trying migrate to another country. The documentary Wetback: The Undocumented Documentary focuses on the issue from this point of view. This documentary uses pathos and logos to show the lives and hardships of those people who are trying to migrate to a new country. Although Wetback used many examples of pathos and logos to show the struggles of the migrants, Border War did a better job showing pathos by following the lives of people who were affected by the illegal immigrants they were also very persuasive with ethos by following credible people.

On Angel Island, the United States of America took it upon themselves to record and examine all of the people emigrating from their homelands. Most of the people immigrating to America through Angel Island were Asian in origin. Upon arrival to Angel Island, a medical inspection was one of the first examinations that the immigrants were put through to determine whether they were fit to enter the United States. The medical examiners inspected every immigrant for signs of disease or being unfit and detained them for further examination. If immigrants were found to have something that was able to be easily taken care of, they were treated. If, upon further inspection, an immigrant was found to have a chronic illness, they were then marked as unfit and denied entry into the United States.
In today’s society, people believe that immigration is a great issue. American people try to accuse them of something that they may or may not of done. Americans tear immigrant families apart that have done nothing wrong and been here for years. These problems today relate to the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller. In the play, girls accuse innocent people of being witches to free their name of witchcraft. Immigrants are being accused of several different reasons to get them out of the country, the question is, when will it stop?
There are millions of people who attempt to cross the border every day. These people cross the border from different countries to the United States to live a better life, to provide for their loved ones, and to live the American Dream. The American Dream is to be able to spend time with family while paying the house bills and the car bill all while having a job. People migrating to the United States could be an advantage and a disadvantage in the United States. In “The Crossing” by Ruben Martinez the social issue is immigration. Immigration is a problem in this story because we see a lot of immigrants trying to migrate to the United States. Ruben Martinez mentions in the short story “The Crossing” This desert is armed with Mexican and American
Immigration can be defined as passing foreigners to a country and making it their permanent residence. Reasons ranging from politics, economy, natural disasters, wish to change ones surroundings and poverty are in the list of the major causes of immigration in both history and today. In untied states, immigration comes with complexities in its demographic nature. A lot of cultural and population growth changes have been witnessed as a result of immigration. In the following paper, I will focus on how immigration helps United States as compared to the mostly held view that it hurts America.
Firstly to justify why countries limit their immigrations, there should be knowledge of the different types of immigrants as there are different reasons to leave from one country and move into another. In the last 30 years, the number of international immigrants has been estimated 191 million worldwide, two times as before. As ...
The biggest difference between the two texts is that one is about gangs and racism while the other is about the way a boy’s perception of his father changes as he grows up. However, both texts cleverly use techniques to convey messages that are relevant to our society.
Immigration has enriched and highlighted many of the five themes we went over as a class. It has added many details to immigration that we never touched before such as the process and the history of immigration. Even though we have gone over a bit as a class, but it as just a little knowledge spread apart throughout all five themes. Only later on learning about immigration, everything became clear. Like how there were restrictions in immigration caused by the world war and still how the civil rights movement led to removal of restriction for immigrants. It likewise became clear on how certain groups of immigrants led to the development of America such as the Chinese immigrants. But even upon contributing and the removal of immigration restrictions
The similarities between the two are that they are both about immigrants and the different diversities of america. For example the both talked about blacks and how they were treated. The also talked about how blacks made america what it is today. The also talked about what it is to be an American and what an American Identity is.
Immigration is one of the most trending topics in the presidential campaign, generating furious debate over the situations that America faces. Whether it be deporting illegal immigrations, granting them a form of amnesty, or building a wall between the United States and Mexico, the immigration process is constantly deliberated. A total of 300,000 jobs were created in the December of 2015. However, there is a constant argument about the income distribution, with the amount of jobs that are supposedly being lost to immigrants. At the top of the social classes, wages are increasing. In the middle and bottom strata, wages are stagnate. However, there is more complexity in order to understand how immigrants are truly impacting our economy and our lives.
Immigration has been a topic that has caused multiple discussions on why people migrate from one country to another, also how it affects both the migraters and the lands they go. Immigration is the movement from one location to another to live there permanently. This topic has been usually been associated with sociology to better explain how it affects people, cultures and societies. Sociology has three forms of thinking that are used to describe and analyze this topic. There are three forms of thinking that are used to tell and describe immigration to society; structural functionalist, symbolic interactionist, and conflict theory. Each of these theories uses different forms of thinking and rationality to describe and explain socio topics.
With the rapid economic development, more and more people try to immigrate to America and trying to learn English. Some parents would like their children just speaking English. However, there are some parents tend to keep their native language and teach to their children, in order to keep their culture alive. And in my opinion, parents should keep their old language alive.
With the recent Paris attacks and rumors of foreboding ISIS attacks, the topic of immigration comes up quite often in conversations. Topics such as how the immigrants should be dealt with, what exactly are the benefits and/or detriments of immigration, Donald Trump’s immigration plan, et cetera are usually discussed. With immigration gradually becoming a trending issue, various people have expressed their thoughts through means like social media and news sites. Joining this movement, this will be another text on the topic of immigration. The benefits of immigration will be presented, false information will be proven wrong, and why some people oppose immigration will be explained and discussed.
United States is a typical immigration country. There are many people come from different countries around the world who immigrated to the United States. As a new immgration of my self, since the day that I came to the United States, cosmopolitansim’s problem is the one that I deal with every day, and it is also the problem that I have been thinking a lot. Acoording to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, “Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty”(A2). It is because of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the new immigrants could integrate into the new environment well, and not feel that they are not belong to this place. On the other hand, new immigrants in early period and the immgrants of some other countyies were not lucky because they need face the problem of discrimination, especially illegal immigrants.
