Hubris- A greek derived term that means an overabundance of pride that leads to a character's downfall. In most greek legends and myths, hubris ends the success of a character. This can be seen in The Achilles myth, Achilles denies the Trojans a proper, honorable funeral and so is destroyed by his own over confidence. Hyperbole- A term used by exaggeration in order to divulge the truth. The poem, The Sun Rising by John Donne displays a hyperbole in its 13th line saying “I could eclipse and cloud them with a wink” meaning that the beams were so strong a wink could eclipse them.
