There are many reasons why Gandalf is an obvious hero in “The Hobbit”. Without Gandalf the journey would have never happened. Gandalf is always there when he is most needed. Gandalf also tries to keep the peace before fighting. Gandalf is a true hero for many reason’s.


Gandalf is the mastermind behind the journey. If he was not there, there would be no journey. Even if the journey still happened it wouldn't be successful. Gandalf has the map and the key, also he brought the dwarves to bilbo. Gandalf gave the dwarves the map and key. Which they needed to have to able to get into the mountain without going through the main entrance. Also if he did not bring them to bilbo, the countless time that the Dwarves were saved by bilbo, they just wouldn't happen.


Gandalf appears at the right time when he is needed most. Many times when the group was in trouble, Gandalf would appear and would end up saving them. When they were in the goblin caves, Gandalf appeared and freed the dwarves and bilbo, and they were then able to kill the goblin king and escape. Gandalf is always there trying to keep the peace between groups of people that dislike each other. Beorn doesn't like the dwarves but gandalf tells him the story about, them killing the goblin king and he begins to like them. The humans dislike the dwarves because the they want there promised gold, but the dwarves do not want to pay. Right when they are ready to fight it out, Gandalf appears and tries to get them to peacefully negotiate it.
