Figurative language is a key component in “The Diary of Anne Frank” because it shows the conflict in the story. The conflict starts when the families that are living in the attic of the building hear loud stomping outside. Goodrich states, “[Mr. Frank stops abruptly as he hears the sound of marching feet from the street below]”[pg. 707].
