Biodiversity
The Biodiversity in the movie Avatar was explained in the pandora. The pandora was very large and full of many species. The pandora was full of animals and species similar to the animals and species in our world. In the movie Avatar the biodiversity was heavily detailed by James Cameron. In the pandora it had showed a rainforest reconizable to ours with a few distinct species living in large areas.
GIA theory
the Gaia theory was also well put into the film.It showed that all species in the movie had an equal share in what the pandora had to offered. It also showed that they all had an equal responsibility for its safety and health. That showed when the whole jungle of the pandora started fighting
For my Christian Leadership and Service class, our final project is to watch a movie and analyze it according to a prevalent social issue. The movie that my group decided to watch is Zootopia. The film communicates that people should not be indulged by the Outgroup Homogeneity effect. This is when thinking of ingroups as diverse, and those of the outgroup as similar occurs. The movie depicts this because the predators are all classified as being “savage” due to their biological nature even thought it was only some that were acting “savage.” Those couple of predators that were found to be wild made ingroups believe that all outgroup members (predators) were also savage and that they should not take part of important roles in Zootipia. After realizing that she was wrong in thinking that all outgroup members were savage Judy shows that she learned that a
... a theory should be able to explain a wide variety of things, not just only what it was intended to explain.
Self proclaimed philosopher, english writer, and novelist Aldous Huxley wrote the book Brave New World. One of the issues in the novel is how uniform the society is. There is no diversity in the in Brave New World. Huxley carefully examined on why society is the way it is. He wants the audience to understand the philosophy of a unique society different from a normal society.
In the latest Disney film, a live action rendition of Beauty and the Beast, there will be a character who is gay. I personally am excited for this, I think that starting to include a diverse range of characters to show to younger children and create new ways of teaching open-mindedness to children when they are young is very important. However, I am just curious and wondering if, given Disney’s track-record, a statement like this is actually true:
After analyzing cultural relativism over the semester, I have come to the conclusion that cultural relativism under anthropological analysis defines every single culture with some aspect of worth as viewed by an individual within that society. Franz Boas, termed the “Father of American Anthropology”, first introduced the concept of cultural relativism. He wanted people to understand the way certain cultures conditioned people to interact with the world around them, which created a necessity to understand the culture being studied. In my words, cultural relativism is the concept that cultures should be viewed from the people among that culture. When studied by anthropologists, cultural relativism is employed to give all cultures an equal
The many archetype that are in the movie Avatar propel the plot, allowing the hero to complete his hero’s journey, which he otherwise could not have done, and would then be unsuccessful at it. Grace and Neytiri, the two mentors, help Jake overcome hardships, moving him along his journey and propelling the plot of Avatar forward. The two evil figures of Colonel Miles and Park evolve the plot while trying to take the precious ore from the Na’vis. The woodsprites propel the story and the Na’vis’ ations, creating action. The hero’s journey archetype of tests, allie, and enemies forces the storyline ahead, with Jake growing into his hero role. The archetypes all connect to show a single purpose; to give meaning to a story otherwise meaningless,
Upon watching the movie Avatar it is very easy to be taken a back by all the beautiful graphics, amazing innovation, and below the surface the power to portray a message that is not always clear upon seeing the movie once. James Cameron faced the challenge of trying to change the different views that individuals had on the preservation of nature, and the protection of the environment. It just so happens to be that when this movie was brought to fruition the US was facing the strongest wave of protest for the preservation of nature. In continuation, the movie had many symbolic representations of earth even within it pictures, the planet Pandora for example has a very strong resemblance to earth in a sense, and even the un breathable atmosphere it posses is a symbol for what would happen to our own planet if wild life, and plants is whipped out, he brought about the questions how would
The film Avatar, directed by James Cameron is a twenty-first century example of the portrayal of the prevalence of alienation in culturally significant media. One may assume that Avatar, is just a film and the story should be taken for nothing more than entertainment value but the thematic implications in the film hold a greater importance . The narrative framework, presents a telling reflection of the collective cultural views of society, revealing anxieties and fears about economic relations replacing social relations, the growth and dependence on the industrial-corporate complex, the alienation we feel from work, and the loss of one 's identity and formal cultural traditions ( Peterson and Weis 2013,115). The main protagonist of Avatar,
James Cameron’s masterpiece, Avatar in a nutshell for those who haven’t watched it is an eco-touchy-feely sci-fi militaristic Ferngully of space. Ferngully has similar plot lines and environmental aspects compared to Avatar such as the lush tropical forest being under threat. Avatar is a love letter to humanity. It’s set on an alien habitable planet, Pandora, pact with quirky-scary CGI animals, under a giant Edenic tree which is the spiritual home of the planet's aboriginal inhabitants. Cameron is also asking fairly complex questions such as “what does it feels like to be human?”
There was a great amount of population in Pandora. James Cameron shows the different species and tell you how they all interact with each other as a population. A population are all the inhabitants of a particular town, area or country. In which case in planet Pandora they are Avators, Anemonoids, Fan lizards, Hexapedes, Hammerhead Titanother and plenty of other creatures. All these creatures come together as one creating a population.
Many of the issues of biodiversity loss can be traced back to human interaction to the environment. One of the issues is alteration and loss of habitats. A lot of this issue is based on the destruction of habitats and for the land to be used for human consumption. The land is either used up for agricultural use or for neighborhoods. Destroying habitats and building them for our own use can have a positive impact on our way of living but a negative impact on the environment. We would gain land for building land for crops and communities to be built. The habitat for the animals would be destroyed and the species local to the land would either relocate or die. There are restrictions to deforesting land and there are organizations to help protect the land.
Biodiversity is commonly described as the variety and diversity of life on Earth. “The number of species of plants, animals, and microorganisms, the enormous diversity of genes in these species, the different ecosystems on the planet, such as deserts, rainforests and coral reefs are all part of a biologically diverse Earth” (Shah, A. 2012). In fact, Earth is made of complex ecosystems’ interacting with each other’s, giving life to any and every species, impacting on climate, human and animals’ lives and so much more. Because biodiversity or biological diversity comprises so many things, several definitions have been made. But in the context of this report, we will use the definition that was made in 1992 by the Convention of Biological Diversity:
The United Nations designated 2011-2020 as the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity. In biodiversity, each species, no matter how big or small has an important role to play in ecosystem. Various plant and animal species depend on each other what each offers and these diverse species ensures natural sustainability for all life forms. A healthy and solid biodiversity can recover itself from variety of disasters. It is estimated that the current species extinction rate is between 1,000 and 10,000
NEED AND PURPOSE FOR CONSERVATION OF BIODIVERSITY: Biodiversity, a contraction of “biological diversity,” generally refers to the variety and variability of life on Earth. The very existence of human species and sustainable development depend on biodiversity conservation, therefore the need for conservation of biodiversity is basically for this reason that all living creatures need other creatures and plants in one way or the other. At least 40 per cent of the world’s economy and 80 per cent of the needs of the poor are mainly derived from biological resources. Biodiversity is necessary for our existence as well as valuable in its own right as it provides the fundamental building blocks for the many goods and services which are essential
Nowadays it is common to read articles in newspapers and magazines regarding biodiversity issues. Human beings have been knowingly and unknowingly destroying biodiversity since their existence. Biodiversity is the measure of the variety of species of animals living in an area. Forests are usually areas with high biodiversity while deserts are the opposite. Human beings have always destroyed biodiversity either by deforestation, or by some other means. Biodiversity depletion is a natural phenomenon. But the present levels of biodiversity depletion are many times higher than the natural rate. Recently the levels of loss in biodiversity have started causing global concern. Some of the main causes for loss in biodiversity are alteration of habitats, increasing levels of pollution and human population growth.
