We are first and foremost Christians, and then Americans. Our political stance is Conservatism because it espouses our Christian beliefs. We believe in a small central (Federal) government and we believe in the Ten Commandments first and the Constitution second. We believe people need to make the best life for themselves and not count on the Federal Government to support them (aside from the elderly who, thankfully, have Social Security and others such as that can't care for themselves). We believe in the rule of law, that means we believe the laws should be respected and enforced, including immigration laws. The American political notions we practice today take root from early colonial times. Our political understanding had its genesis as early as the 17th century, which stemmed from the writings of intellectuals, such as John Winthrop and William Penn. Equipped with these convictions, both Winthrop and Penn brought about visions of how their respective colonies will be structured in the New World. John Winthrop wrote The Modell of Christian Charity as a platform to lead a group of Puritan refugees in the colony of Boston, Massachusetts. Also armed with his own political philosophies, William Penn’s Frame of Government of Pennsylvania constructed a settlement, which promoted religious liberty and individual conscience. Although the two founders wrote about varying principles, there were some parallels evident between their founding visions. Furthermore, by highlighting the outward distinctions and similarities of their visions, we can recognize the strengths and weaknesses of the two political structures. The United States, comprised of much political diversity, has only two major political parties, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. The Republican Party was founded by anti-slavery activists on March 20th, 1854, and is represented by its mascot, the elephant. Often referred to as the “Grand Old Party”, or GOP, Republicans favor customs that exude traditional Christian values with a platform based on American Conservatism. As a Christian myself, the values I share with Republican ideals are a main reason I side with the Republican Party.
Individualistic in that government is supposed to maintain a stable society but at the same time intervene as little as possible, and has a faith in idividual initiave. Why is it that most ultra-conservatives (typically Southern states) cling to the idea that our second amendment is being violated when it is in fact NOT being violated? Why do most conservatives honestly believe that Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton are the Anti-Christ? Why do most ultra-conservatives believe that "Trickle Down Economics" works? When in fact even during recessions the rich people are still richer than ever? Why do Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity truly believe that they are in fact experts on global warming or climate change? Classical liberalism and classical conservatism are closely based as seen by Edmund Burke who was admired for his political philosophies from both classical liberalism and classical conservatism. Yet, with any group of people, not everyone is going to agree, and parties form even if it over a small issue. Consider the christian faith, there are many different denominations because of the beliefs in minor doctrine, but they all believe that Jesus is the Son of God, like the classical liberals and classical conservatives believe in the Constitution. I believe in hard work, socially acceptable, lawful behavior, minimal taxes and intervention, and equal treatment. When it comes to the issues dealt with by all Americans, you generally have few choices with which to align yourself. You can either decide to stand on the right, taking a conservative viewpoint: believing in personal responsibility, limited government, free market, etc. with notable parties such as the Republican Party and the Peace and Freedom Party. Alternatively, you can stand on the left, taking the more liberal route: holding onto ideals such as government action and equal opportunity. Those parties include the Democratic Party and the Green Party. However, it is not a black and white cutoff between conservative and liberal, rather a circular spectrum going to the far left, the far right, and meeting back up.
Personally I am a Republican. This is dues to my beliefs and values I tend to have a more traditional ideology. Overall on most key issues I tend to be more conservative. For Example I am prolife, Pro second amendment rights, and anti-gay marriage. In closing I feel that my stand point on most issues is that most similar to the Republican Party.

In this paper, I will be discussing the political party I identify with, as well as which interest groups have influenced my life and beliefs the most. Democrat or a Republican is a complicated question almost like decidIng on a religion, which beliefs do they feel strongly about, what do you feel strongly about? How was their ideology similar to yours? These questions are what every American has to answer. But a surprising number of them find themselves just like me in the center. Through the three surveys, it appears I am juxtapositioned in the center. In other words I am a moderate, and that doesn't surprise me because I support some views the democrats have, such as gun control restrictions, but yet on the other hand I support the republicans view of pro, life unlike our fellow democrats. I have found that these surveys seem to match up with my ideology. The political typology quiz aligned me in the hard pressed skeptic. I am not surprised at this outcome because it seems to match my ideology, and political beliefs.
My Political Views are most consistent with the Libertarian Party. Libertarian party fights for the personal freedoms of every American. The Libertarian Agenda includes restoring Constitutional Government, legalizing narcotics, no gun control at all, eliminating the Federal Income Tax, cut defense and spending, and running campaigns on privately donated money. The Libertarian Party believes in absolute economic and social freedom. The party believes the only role of government should be protecting people and property against injury. The party believes that government should not regulate the economy at all. Government should only protect a business owner?s property and resources. Compared with the two parties in power currently, the Libertarian Party would not be consistent with either party?s agenda and is unique in its own political aspects.

Before questioning my political views, I was very conservative because my family was conservative, as I said before, and whenever an issue arose I tended to support the right as opposed to the left. However, having explored political parties a little more in-depth, I’ve found there are several issues, socially and economically, which I disagree on that are supported by the Republican Party, such as the death penalty, restrictions on personal actions that are against traditional values, and drilling in The Arctic National Wildlife refuge. Personally, I’m very opposed to death penalty; under no circumstances should a person be executed for a crime he or she has committed. Although jails have supposedly become more comfortable and beneficial, with access to exercise facilities and libraries, I would much rather see a criminal given a life sentence in jail than the death penalty. Coming from a Catholic family, I think I have developed my stance on this issue due to my faith.
