1984 is a book that could be very relevant to people. It can draw comparisons to current life in America or other places with different governments as well. The use of big brother can be be seen in the novel and in the real world with multiple examples.
Big brother can be seen as our government in which many people believe we are being watched constantly throughout our lives. It can be seen as an exaggerated form of the surveillance that actually happens in the world and can be seen as to what freedoms we actually do have compared to the citizens in the novel. Also this novel can teach us to not take or freedoms for granted and appreciate what we do have as a form of learning to students.
The Thought police are also a good and relevant piece

They prove the relevancy of the novel by showing the fear that people have to there police who are supposed to be doing something good for the public but only invoke fear into the public instead. This is relevant to the real world because police recently have been pictured or shown as the bad guys who are not here to protect and serve but do as they see fit to the public. The fear that people have for the police today can be mirrored to the fear that people have in 1984 that if you look at one the wrong way there can be grave consequences for you.
Another way 1984 is relevant even now in current times is the love life in the book. It is relevant because in today's world many people do not have time or have a healthy relationship with love. Due to social media many people are caught up into that instead of an actual healthy love life or just a healthy relationship in general. Winston’s love life is very awkward mostly because of the distractions in his life like the thought police who basically control which emotions he shows at times. A distraction just like the social media that was said before and can really dictate how a relationship is.
I hope you see the relevancy of 1984 and how it can reflect what is happening in the real world even over the amount of time that it was written.
