There are many ways to write a mission statement that will catch a person’s attention by using logos, pathos, and ethos. I find it more interesting to read the ethos and pathos methods compared to the logos, because there are so many ways to play on people’s ethics and emotions more than the logical sense. Logos is an in-depth, details concept with a general knowledge of the topic or subject matter. While pathos plays on emotions, ideas, or even their fears. I will be comparing and contrasting each appeal in the following college mission statements. It has pathos that is stating that “They are a coastal school” suggesting to me the idea “Go to this school by the coast and spend spare time at the beach soaking up the rays, while getting the best education”. However, that is all that it offers in form of logos, but in the way of pathos it tries to say that if you join this school you will become a better person in your organization and in your community.
If I was basing my whole educational experience on being a public figure in my community then I might choose this school, but if my career path was to be a successful doctor or nurse I don’t think this mission statement would convince me to attend! There are three methods of persuasion when speaking or writing to an audience: Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. Ethos uses a type of socially recognized authority as its voice. Logos uses logic and reasoning as its tool. Lastly, Pathos uses emotional attachment. For instance, the advertising industry primarily utilizes Ethos and Pathos reasoning and qualities, particularly a Matthew Mcconaughey Lincoln Motor Company commercial, and a Safe driving bonus check Ally Insurance commercial.

Throughout his piece Stiglitz argues how America’s economy is not likely to succeed in the future. Diversity is not something that you can just fabricate and expect for it be true, it is something that must be embraced and created by marketing it. Prichep also takes the time to interview high school seniors to get their perception on this issue. According to Tobias Kelly, “I think it’s best if you are trying to go to a school to visit for yourself.” (Tobias 680) I must agree with Kelly because even if brochures and promotion information was totally correct, it does not provide an accurate feeling of the campus.
