Good Morning Ms. Caldwell, I wanted to speak to you about a situation that I am upset about with my daughter’s science teacher, Mrs. Priscilla Molina. I have already ask to have a conference with her and the counselors but wanted to also address the situation with you. My daughter, Magdalena received a zero on an assignment for a lab that was done last week. She had not completed the full assignment and was told she had to turn it in incomplete and would have to take a zero and fail the class. Mrs. Molina also told her to not complain to her mother because she would not be changing the grade. I don’t not appreciate her telling my daughter this. Friday the students had no school and on Monday, March 28th my daughter was again absent for period 1st ,2nd and part of 3rd period. We are not sure if Mrs. Molina allowed the students time to complete the analysis questions on that day and reminded the students that it must be turned in on Wednesday, as she was not present in class. On Tuesday, it was STAAR testing and she was not able to communicate with Mrs. Molina. When she arrived to her class yesterday, she started working on the assignment. When she tried to explain that she was out, Mrs. Molina told her she did not want to hear excuses and that she told the whole class that it was due Wednesday, which my daughter would not have known since she was out those few days. This is not the first time that this has happen, I had an issue earlier in the year when my daughter was out and Mrs. Molina gave her a zero because an assignment was not turned in on time even though she was out a few days sick. I understand that it is very important to complete work on time but when a student is out ill, should they not be given the chance to complete missed assignments? I have a friend whose dreams were shattered thanks to the system we have now. Andrea 's eleventh-grade year was very difficult for her because her mother died at the beginning of the school year. She struggled with depression, and after being in honor classes for the past three years, she started to struggle with her classes. When she reached twelfth grade because of her low performance in her junior year, she was put in medium level classes. She felt discouraged and she did only what she needed to do to graduate. One of the consequences was that she lost her opportunity to get a scholarship to a university that she always dreamed of going to. Everyone has experienced some type of stress in their life. Whether it has been from work, school, or troubles at home, stress is stress. If anyone had played sports in high school, you know the challenge of balancing school and sports. Imagine that stress, then multiply it exponentially. Everyone knows that college is a much more rigorous version of high school. The only reason some athletes made it to college is due to scholarships for their performance on the field. If they don’t perform well on the field, that scholarship might get cut. This makes practicing the athletes main priority. However, college athletes have to concentrate on their grades so they don’t drop out of college. These athletes know they may not make it to the pro’s, so they know they have to have a back up plan. This back up plan is called a college degree. So college athletes have to concentrate both on sports and classes. Sounds kind of challenging. This is why I believe student athletes should be allowed to miss classes occasionally due to their sport. Athletes are under much more stress, are required to attend practices and classes, and complete their homework. This is simply impossible to do, at least for a human. I believe that this is an important topic because it affects all college athletes.

Since this has not been a problem but could continue to be a problem in the future a plan needs to be set up. The student will first need to figure out what is working for her in her life to get homework completed during the day. After the student can identify what is working for her then a plan can be made. I will guide her but let her make the choice if she is going to talk to the teacher one-on-one and see if she can hand in the assignment that is not completed but still work on the plan to help her get her work done during the day since her responsibilities may be increasing at home during the evenings. Students are deprived from there leaning do to the tardy policy. A policy that is unfair this tardy policy makes students serve a 30 min detention if there even a second late to class and after multiple absences or tardies you can face legal consequences. There's many reasons why students may be late for example students need to take the city buss, bikes ,cars to school but there's always traffic so sometimes it's not the students fault , students shouldn't be given a 30 minute detention for being a couple of minutes late.
Mrs. Adams is a middle school language teacher in a low-income area of Baltimore and has a student who does not have the means to own a computer or have transportation to a library to complete the given assignment. Jonathan is a tenth grade student with multiple disabilities which include: profound mental disability, spastic quadriplegia, and seizure disorder. Jonathan’s mother approached the high school principal, Debbie Young, to request educational placement for Jonathan in the high school. Debbie Young, who also served as a Special Education teacher before she became a principal, denied the request. Young’s decision was based on the severity of Jonathan’s multiple disabilities, his need of a specially trained nurse, and the excessive expense the school would incur to accommodate his medical needs. Due to the above factors, Principal Young believes the high school is not the best placement for Jonathan’s care.
Right now she has a Para that has the student as her main student, but she also cares for two other students. The mom is scared for her daughter and for the other two students safety. One example they gave was that during the fire drill last week, the student seized as all the other students were out of the building and the Para had to help the other students too. Another example is that the student seized when about to enter the pool and she almost smack her head. When they were talking about this topic I really started to think what I would do in the situation. This student seizes everyday the mom says, so that is a huge safety concern. On Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at approximately 2:15PM I was exiting the security office for dismissal at HAAS. When I entered the vestibule area I noticed a parent in the main office, who appeared agitated. I entered the office area and I asked if I could assist her, she told me she was meeting with a teacher. I asked her if she had an appointment and who was the teacher, she proceeded to tell me it was with Mr. Greg MAZUREK, and referred to him as a "pedophile." I instructed her to refrain from using that terminology, and she continued by stating, HUDOCK and MEARS, both HAAS Teachers were also pedophiles. Mrs. Marie ERNST, HAAS Assistant Principal, heard the parents' allegations, and we directed the parent and daughter into Mrs. ERNST's office and closed the door to continue the allegations in a confidential manner. I asked the parent her name, she identified herself as Mrs. Tracey LEONARD and her daughter Sydney LEONARD, grade 11. Mrs. LEONARD stated she was here because of a "0" that Sydney received for not completing an assignment. Mrs. ERNST told Mrs. LEONARD she would talk to Mr. MAZUREK regarding the grade and would rectify the concern regarding Sydney's grade.

This action is necessary because the student involved is not showing academic growth and having anxiety with attending school. Attendance has decreased because the student does not want to attend school due to issues with the classroom teacher, as well as other students within this class. Because of the attendance drop, this student’s grades have also shown a decline in all subject areas. The parents are requesting that the student be placed in a different classroom, but because it is so late in the year, that might not be the best option and may not be in the best interest of the student. A team needs to be created so an action plan can be developed to improve attendance rates and academic achievement.
