Talent comes in many forms, including singing dancing or just simply writing. Individuals should try to find their talent and then make goals to achieve it. There are many talented people in the world and others that yet have to realize their talent. Big or small, every single human being has a talent, but many misunderstand and don’t fully realize the real essence of talent. The poem “Ex-Basketball Player” by John Updike suggests that every individual has a talent but he should work hard to achieve it, and most importantly if you’re not successful in your plan “A” it is beneficial to have a plan “B”. To be successful in life, a person must make goals to pursue their talent.
What does it mean when someone is called a “natural”? It means to

In the poem, “The ball loved Flick”, but was Flick Webb willing to be motivated to love the ball? Was he willing to give up on everything else? Goals are what represent an individual’s desires. In order for a person to achieve their goals, one has to face many challenges and make sacrifices that he would not otherwise make. They are forced to face difficulties, but those are hardships are the key to their success. For a basketball player, his talent is fully shown when he is contributed to his team, but if the player only uses his talent to define himself better than the rest, then their talent will only take them so far. To a place that is isolated and unfulfilling. Which in Flick’s case was “Mae’s Luncheonette” A ball player’s or anyone else’s talent becomes fully realized when they serve others, a team, and not just themselves. In Flicks case, something similar happened, he was amazing in fact “the best in ‘46” but he still ended up “smoking thin cigars”. Why? Possibly, because Flick didn’t make right choices on the first place. Choices affect your life; in fact an individual’s “choices and ideas pave the road to for their future”. Confucius once said, "People's lives are the result of the choices they make-or fail to make. The path one takes in life

In “Marching through a Novel,” John Updike, conveys a complex relationship between the novelist and characters, by representing the author as a god-like figure whose characters are like his soldiers ready to take action upon his command. John Updike successfully portrays this characterization through his use of metaphors, diction, and imagery.
Her aspiration was to write, but fell in love with teaching along the way. My dream is to teach, but I fell in love with creative writing along the way. I think my strengths play a big part in my determination to do what I love. Growing up, I was determined that I was going to be a doctor because in my mind that was the only way for me to help others and make my family proud. I had no passion for medicine only the drive to do something good, and then in high school I discovered a passion for the English language that makes me never want to stop learning. Julia Alvarez proves that I can still help people in my chosen field. I can still make a difference. I want to use my intellection and my context and the vast archives of information I store because of my input strength to help shape the minds of future doctors or lawyers or writers or artists or world
Everyone wants to fill the void within themselves, and most humans try to accomplish this by finding jobs they enjoy, but it seems that most of them ultimately fail. When you are younger you look to your parents to show you the way, but as you approach adulthood you start to feel more of a sense of rebellion toward them instead of the admiration you once had. The writer makes the poem universal by saying he didn’t want to end up like his father, something most children in north america could relate to. It’s also easily linked to our society in north america because of the way our schooling system is set up, in a way that you must commit to what you’re going to do for the rest of your life when you’re still too young to vote, and our system being this way makes it easy to end up regretting what you choose. Humans in modern society are expected to make many commitments for a range of things- relationships or sports teams, even major life decisions, and it’s obvious that our natural need for commitment is prevalent in our everyday life. Consequently, this need for making commitments can end up leaving people making poor decisions or at least taking a route you’ll end up wanting to renounce in the
In the poem the main character Flick is a mirror or allusion for people who was successful in sports, in the past and become a loser in the future. For example Flick was once a high-school basketball star, but now his glorious past is behind him. The ideal image of his character presents a vivid image of most people in that plat sports ...
The importance of self control and grit in life's success is interlinked with talent, the relatively new research delves into the influence of self-control and grit in childhood and adulthood life stages. Grit and self control measures in childhood and adulthood may both predict and explain the differing levels of success in individuals with similar talent. Grit and self control are influential to success, important in both childhood and adulthood, right throughout an individuals life. Grit and success should therefor be focused on as a skill to improve when pursuing a goal, both short and long
The luck of having talent is not enough; one must also have a talent for luck. -- Hector Berlioz
Having opportunities and advantages not readily available to others, being born at a time that enables you to take advantage of opportunities unavailable to those born before or after you, having parents engaged and involved in your effort to success, and the endurance to practice day in and day out makes an outlier. Innate talent is the cornerstone of any success story. But to truly understand one’s journey to success, you need to delve deeper to uncover the true aspects of their success. And in the process, maybe make a case for them as an outlier.
A sea of mixed emotions occurred during 1998 NBA finals. Many people from different parts of the country packed into an arena to witness history. It did not matter if a person was of different color, wealth or even sex, people wanted to witness greatness. As history occurred in that game, it was captured beautifully. One specific photograph of Michael Jordan hitting his iconic game winner became the main photograph of the night. The attention drawn to Michael Jordan that night was captured in a black and white view, yet a lot of detail is in the dark scheme to direct even more attention towards him.
Everyone wants to get better at something, but some want it more than others. In “How to Transform an Everyday, Ordinary Hoop Court into a Place of Higher Learning and You at the Podium”, the narrator wants to get better at basketball, so he wakes up everyday at 4:30 to go with his dad to his work. Everyday, the narrator would wait 3 hours in his dad’s car until the gym opened, only to sit on the bench and watch the other men play basketball. Finally, one of the best players, Dante, tells the narrator he can play but he’ll get “smoked”. However, the narrator proved him wrong. The narrator learns that if you persevere, work hard, and have confidence, your dreams may come true. In How to Transform an Everyday, Ordinary Hoop Court into a Place
No one would expect musicians to pick up an instrument and play without being taught how to play it. They are taught to play the instrument and they invest endless hours before this expertise is reached. Without knowing that, it 's easy to jump to conclusions and assume that they have always been this good all the way. If you have a goal and you feel that you don 't have the talent to achieve it, whether you believe it or not, you already have the necessary skill required to achieve it. The missing piece of the mystery is not that you lack talent, but to invest the hard work. Instead of seeing talent as something inborn in others, recognize that talent is inborn in you as well. You just need to put in the hours to bring it out of
Reading and writing has always played a vital part in my life. From toddler to adult, pre-elementary to college, I’ve managed to sharpen both skills to my liking. However, even though it significantly helped, schooling was not what influenced me to continue developing those skills into talent. Many different things shaped and influenced my learning, and now reading and writing have become the safety net of my life. I know that even if I have nothing else in the future, I’ll still have my talent and knowledge. To ensure my success, I hope to further develop those skills so that I may fulfill my wishes.
To me, life is a basketball court. The world in my mind is a hoop, a basketball, a court, and rules. That’s why, it’s my passion, and it makes a great comparison to my life. In life, people say you can be successful without any effort from yourself, an average person living peacefully, or a guy that has tried so hard, but made it so late. Just like basketball. You make hoops to be successful; you defend when you meet an opponent. You pass commonly to have someone support you or reach out a helping hand. Those supportive people are most of the time, your family members, but also your friends for life. You dribble to keep up and to make it to success, while you make sure you don’t travel, or double-dribble. These are violations that are like the cheats of your life. You can make it by cheating, but you have just destroyed and lied to yourself. That also tells us there...
Shakespeare uses many powerful lines in his story, one of which reached out to me the most. "Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them." (II.v.144-145, p.48) To me it means much more than it says. Many people are born with certain abilities. Whether its athletics, knowledge, music, or any talent for that matter, they all reach their goals in different ways. Yes, some are born with a natural ability to do certain things, but it's their will power that makes them great at what they do. You have to push yourself to the edge to get the best out of yourself. To achieve greatness, it takes much more than just practice, you have to make it your life, give it everything you have, and then, you can achieve anything at all. It is said again at the end of the play to remind you of what it means. Don't give up on anything; you can do whatever you want if you try your best. I think Shakespeare just wanted to remind us again of what we can achieve.
Firstly some skills you need to have to be successful in the music industry as a professional singer is to be able to memorize music and lyrics quickly, to being able to adapt to different music genres/styles such as blues country hip hop and to pop music. As well as knowing the range you’re capable of doing. Singers require knowing different breathing techniques and discipline, being able to hear tone and pitch also to harmonize, how to project their voice to an audience. They need to be able to express emotion and feeling when they sing. Having a unique style/wardrobe would be good. Also an extra skill to have is to know how to be a songwriter and be creative. A very impo...
