Everybody’s definition for being American is different. I think that our generation defines if you are American if you have pride towards our country and to stand up for what you believe in, and to be respectful to the people around you and the people who fought for you to be here. Being American also means you spend time with your family and spend time with people and not just ignore everyone and do nothing. For example my family and I have a lake house down at the lake of the ozarks and we usually have a lot of family and friends over. We go to the lake every weekend during the summer and it is definitely one of our favorite things to do. On the fourth of July we all get in our boat and go to the middle of the lake to watch fireworks and have fun with everybody that's there. We love to meet new people down there and hang out, have a barbeque, go get ice cream and more! …show more content…
On September 11th, 2001 something very big happened that changed America.
An islamic extremist group named al-Qaeda hijacked four planes and attempted suicide attacks against places in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C. and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. If you make inappropriate jokes about this you will definitely be called un american and probably get asked if you are even human. This made up a HUGE part of America and it is something nobody will forget. It is also extremely frowned upon if you are disrespectful towards firefighters, policemen, and medics that fought for us during this
time. Something else that really represents America is social media. Nobody really knows why but for some reason Americans do this thing where they take pictures of whatever they are eating or drinking and post it on the internet. Social media ranges from what President Trump said in a meeting, playing with satisfying slime, and what is happening with Logan Paul’s career after he posted a video on youtube of him and his friends going into a suicide forest in Japan as a joke. Not expecting to see anything they quickly noticed that there was a guy that had committed suicide. Logan Paul videotaped the dead body without anything blur over the face and had the nerve to make jokes and laugh at the guy who didn’t find a reason to live. Even though Americans can be cruel at some points but I have never in my life met anyone that has been so disrespectful to the point to make fun of someone who has died. Something Americans are very big in is also standing for the pledge and not kneeling, or sitting. Have common sense and be respectful to your country. There are several viral videos on the internet about people getting in fights because they didn't take their hat off during the pledge or didn’t stand up. A few years ago there were some football players that did not stand and that then started a trend for people thinking it is cool to be disrespectful. As many things are wrong with society there are definitely a bunch of good things as well. I think everybody that lives in America is proud to live here and some point in their life were thankful that they weren't raised as a slave or anything else. I know I am glad to have freedom and be who I am today.
To be an American is to be proud of your flag and country, to be willing to suffer for America, and to never be willing to give up.
American is known as the land of opportunity and freedom. The land that welcomes people from
Americans are defined by the respect they have for their country and its government, in taking advantage of their freedoms and rights that they gain by showing respect through allegiance, pride, and loyalty.
America has always been looked at as “The New World” where people from all over come to fulfil their dreams. Their dreams may not have been exceptional, but only to have enough to survive, have a house where their children could be raised and feel free and protected. Now, according to Webster’s online dictionary Americanism is defined as a custom, trait, belief, etc., peculiar to the United States of America or its citizens, but to me it means so much more.
Americans can cherish their freedom of expression and are part of a diverse culture. An American is someone who would embrace freedom and liberty. Overall, to be an American, it is crucial to embrace the culture and become a part of it disregarding where you were born.
To be an American means more than just living in the country for a set amount of years. It means more than being granted citizenship, and more than just waving a Boy Scout American flag in your yard on Memorial Day. To be an American is to be free, and that is what we as Americans sometimes take for granted and forget. Being an American isn 't just living in the "greatest country in the world", there are plenty of other countries that say the same exact things. There are far less countries in this world, though, that are free, and have the American mindset. Not many countries employ so many freedoms and have the 'American dream '. The American mindset is not just something that
What makes an American an American? Is it the accent, the clothing, the fact that you
In conclusion, everyone has the chance for themselves to make their own definition what it means to be an American. Having the American Dream, otherwise being successful, you can choose how you view being American. As I have previously explained in this essay, I believe being American means that you are a proud patriot of your country and show some type of position in your country, having a voice in your country and using your liberties promised to you by the government. What is your definition of being an
An American is someone who is free to do whatever whenever he wants. He is someone who doesn't care about who judges him or what people think. All he cares about is his version of the American dream. His version may be different from everyone else's but an American has the freedom to be different in whatever way he wants to. This is what an American is.
What does it mean to be an American? Can this statement ever really be defined since America is a melting pot of different races, religions, political views, social views and so on and so fourth. To be an American can mean virtually anything and whether or not somebody supports national symbols is just another part of being and American. As Americans we have the right to disagree with the government, the right to protest against something unjust, the right to burn a flag in disgrace because after all we have freedom of speech. To some these things are un-American, but to others they are the reasons America is such a wonderful place to live. There is no definite answer to this question, but many different possibilities.
To be an American is to be able to leave everything behind and form a new way of life, also a new way to view life. There are two literatures that explain the importance of being an American. Ambush by Tim O’Brien and Why Soldiers Won’t Talk by John Steinbeck. They both have personal experience in war.
The definition of an American, is someone who is a citizen of the United States. Many African Americans, and immigrants struggled to become actual Americans in their lifetimes, because others didn 't see them as actual people; and based it on the color of someone. In today 's world people who live in America consider themselves as Americans, but to me there is certain qualities that make a person an American. To me being a true American is not based off of what Country they were born in, or what race their parents are, or even if they were immigrated to the United States. People from all over the world would say that maybe people could base this off of someone 's family heritage, or where they were before they came to America. If you were asked what makes an American an American what would you base it off of? To me there are four specific characteristics that make a person a true American; those three things would be, freedom, individuality, belief in the country, and happiness.
Nationalism is extreme loyalty and devotion to one particular nation, and many Americans are nationalistic about their country. But even though they are loyal to America, defining what it means to be a true American is tricky. Being American is one complex thing, but the concept of being American can not be fully grasped. What it means to be American may in fact be one of the biggest mysteries of all time. Indeed, discovering what it means to be a true American could possibly take an entire lifetime. One thing, however about all true Americans is certain: we are all alike in that each one of us is different from the Americans in important ways. We are diverse in our backgrounds, races, and religions. Nevertheless, we are exactly identical in the we feel toward our country, even though we express our pride in a million different ways.
Being an American is more than just living in America, or being born in this country. Many people talk about being American’s and they aren't even in this country. Being an American is a way of life that people adapt into by seeing how we act. People all over the world eat the same things that we eat, so that can't really be a way of being an American. To me, being an American is embracing our ways of life, not fighting for the other guys, and loving our anthem and the flag.
America is a place where anyone can purse the life they please due to all of the freedoms we possess. What it means to be American is living the life you want by the freedoms of this country, and the hard work you want to put in.
