Communication has been around since there has been life on earth. We communicate in two different ways; verbally and non-verbally. Verbal communication is talking, singing, basically, using our voice. Non-verbal communication is facial expressions, body language, eye contact and sign language. People may not realize it, but they communicate non- verbally all of the time, even when there isn’t any word said. It is basic human instinct to communicate whether it be for an emergency or just for entertainment. Since the up rise of the internet, cell phones, and technology, there has been an increase of communication in between people; most of the time, it is non-verbal communication.
In recent years, the way people communicate has started going

towards the non-verbal side with people communicating solely over the internet, on their cell phones, their laptops, nooks, tablets, iPad, etc.; but not necessarily face- to- face communicating. If a person wanted to, a person could go grocery shopping over the internet, simply because they don't want to interact with other people. The American culture can be described as closed off to other people; well other places like Asia, African countries, and South American countries can be seen as open and somewhat excepting. Because of the spread of non-verbal communication, younger generations don't know how to communicate without their cell phone. On the internet, people can say, do, or think whatever they want. Their online life could be the polar opposite of what they represent in real life. A person could say that they are a vegetarian but in real life be a hunter. A person can enter into an online relationship. Some of these relationship have one or both partners that are in the relationship just to catfish. Catfish a person who lures someone into a relationship online with an altered profile. They do this to feel better about themselves, to con someone out of something like money, or get revenge. Because of this phenomenon, people can be cyber bullied. Cyber billing can affect someone's life online and/ or in real life. The is this theory that if a person deletes something whether it being a photo or something they said online is deleted from the whole internet but once shared on the internet, it shall stay. Because people can say whatever they want can cause people to have less sincerity for other people online, but in real life, most people think about what they say before they say it. When a person is still considered a teenager or even young adults, their opinions are bought on somebodies’ else's opinions like a parent, friends, siblings; at least not until they move away or educate themselves. When communicating people use a mixture of ethos, logos, or pathos.
Ethos is the credibility someone has. Logos is the logic or reasoning someone use. Pathos is the emotion someone has. People use these concepts of rhetoric to communicate with each other. Ethos is for what is called professionals; for the people who have a deeper understanding of the topic of discussion. Examples of the type of people that use ethos are anybody with a higher education in the health field, scientist, famous people. Logos is used to make the topic make sense to people. Examples of the type of people who use logos are business people, people of the law, and salesman. Pathos plays on human’s basic emotions: happiness, sadness, fear, anger, surprise, and disgust. Examples of people who use pathos are protestor, television, and …show more content…
commercials. Rhetoric is important to understand because it is how people communicate. Rhetoric is a technique of communication to talk to each other in spoken or written forms. When someone wants to get a point across, have a discussion about whatever, or just talk, they go between ethos, logos, and pathos. It is how people communicate. To become a better writer, the person needs to learn the basic idea of rhetoric and how to implement it in their writing. By learning about rhetoric, a person can become a better communicator. By better understanding rhetoric can make our use of social media more meaningful because we know the basic idea of rhetoric. By having a better idea of what rhetoric, can open a whole new door. It is like when a doctor watches a show like Grey’s Anatomy and criticizing and knowing what is going on in the show. By understanding rhetoric, then a person can see how people communicate in different ways. Also, a person can learn the different ways they could potentially communicate. When teaching a person to write is teaching a way of communication.
A pencil is a form of paint brush, a blank canvas can be turned in the most beautiful and colorful masterpiece that the creator didn't even know about in the beginning. Writing is how people get their thoughts and emotions out, thoughts and emotions are not technicality, they are a basic human action. Everybody can learn about the technicalities of writing, but the way people write will be the same. Humans want original thoughts and not the same- old ideas that they can get from someone else. By writing only with the technicalities, makes the paper basic, boring, and expected. People can tell when someone got caught up in the technicalities of writing, instead of writing the way they want
to. With the expansion of technology came emoticons and condensed words, such as lol, btw, tbh, etc. The generation that has grown up with using this type of communication has started to think and in emoticons and condensed. Their vocabulary has been limited to a smiley face and lol. In order to learn about rhetoric and how to use it, the way rhetoric is taught has to be put at the same level that they are on and had to be relatable. Simplifying the way rhetoric is taught to get the best results. The it is taught has to taught on the tools that are adapted for the generation; use television, iPad, tablets, and phones, the devices that generation uses. The way rhetoric is taught has to evolve with the current generation and the generations to come. People have to teach the generations the appropriate time to use emoticons and condensed words. Such as condensed words would not be used in a research paper about the effects of sports on school age children but condensed words could be used in a story involving sports. The generation needs to learn about rhetoric because it is the way they communicate and could help them communicate better with each other. Since communication has been around for so long, it has gone through its own version of evolution. Starting with what some people thinks is grunts to going ancient languages like Greek and Latin to the languages we have available to us today, English, Spanish, French, to our modern version of language of emotions and condensed words like lol, btw, tbh, etc. Communication will continue to evolve, coming up with some type of new languages. In order for those future generations to learn and understand what today generation's greats accomplishments and achievements, as well as our not so great accomplishments and achievements, the need to learn and understand the languages of the past and rhetoric.

Mainly, that Americans will never exhaust their greed and gluttony. Pollan uses ethos, pathos, and logos to successfully persuade his audience to see his point of view.

Aristotle’s rhetorical triangle links three elements of arguing together: the speaker, the story, and the audience. The relationship between the elements determines the speaker’s argument and whether it will be successful in oratory or literature. Ethos, Logos and Pathos are each different aspects of the argument that must be balanced in order to succeed in persuading or convincing an audience. Ethos, or character, relates to the speaker’s credibility that the audience appeals to: it is useful when persuading a group of people to trust what you are saying or doing. Logos, or logic, is a way of convincing and appealing by reason, truth, and facts. Pathos relates to the audience’s emotions and their response to what the speaker is saying.

These appeals are based on the demographics of the readers, so the process of persuasion is more powerful. Ethos is based on the credentials of the writer. For example, if the writer proves that he or she is smart they are practicing ethos. Pathos on the other hand has more to do with emotions of the text and how they affect the reader. Writers practicing pathos know the demographics of their readers, making readers feel sad, angry, pity, and happy are mostly used forms of pathos.

Joe Clark was an excellent principal in all areas, this idea is further proven by the speech he gave his students before their skills test.

This helps set the tone and brand of his personality: philosophical, futuristic, surreal, and so on and so forth. This is further displayed in his cover photo which consists of several more surrealistic pictures. For example, a body diving into a table with paint splashing out. The message being conveyed throughout his profile is to think, question, and inspire because we are at the forefront. This is further solidified throughout his profile with ethos, logos, and pathos.

In the movie Any Given Sunday, Al Pacino states one of the best quotes ever, “Life is just a game of inches.” As small as inches can be, they can be the biggest things in our lives. The drive for inches is what brings out determination. Determination is something that I value because in the grand scheme of things it’ll define if I’m a winner or a loser.
