Does the speech have compelling evidence? Are the statistics accurate? And many more questions. Oprah Winfrey appealed to ethos in the following ways. Foremost, when she stated that there was nothing significant to her than striving to be a good human being. This projected her as an excellent individual thus crafting an image of her credibility to the audience. Subsequently, she conversed with authority hence built confidence with the audience. In addition, her credibility as an eminent speaker with fine character made it easy for the audience to believe her thus appealing to the audience ethically.
Owing to her previous remarkable speeches in television, she had built a positive image for herself as one of America’s most credible, respected and intelligent speaker. As she was ushered on stage, there was so much applause and clapping which was a clear indication that the audience adored her therefore making it easier for her to persuade them. In addition, after her acceptance speech, there was yet again so much applause and clapping and the audience seemed to have been extremely moved by her speech. Oprah Winfrey appealed to logos in the following ways. To begin with, she used her past experiences regarding her father who owned a barber shop. He would bring home Bob, Shorty, Bootsy and Slim home for dinner. This bestowed to her an ethical appeal since her past was evidence to what she was saying. When Oprah Winfrey said, ‘So, to be here tonight and be acknowledged as the first to receive this honour is beyond expression in words for me’. This was logical given that it was true she was the first to receive the award. Oprah Winfrey appealed to pathos in the following ways. When she was ushered to the podium, she sighed and shed tears and in the process connected to the audience emotionally. She had a sense of
humour and made people laugh when she uttered; ‘I grew up in Nashville with a father who owned a barber shop, Winfrey’s Barber Shop, he still does, I can’t get him to retire.’’, ‘Bootsy could you pass me the peas please?’, and when she said, ‘Stedman, thank you’ in the middle of her speech. She presented a vivid image of her experiences making the audience to identify with her emotionally and with her point of view. She used precise choice of words that made her connect emotionally with the audience when she; talked about pain and being invisible, thanked people who had let her share her stories and when she committed herself at the end to continue to strive to give back to the world what it had given to her. At the end of the speech, she is able to persuade the audience to take action and change to be better people by the use of her speech. Oprah Winfrey was able to use ethos, logos and pathos effectively in her speech to persuade the audience. This assignment has been of great assistance to me a lot in many ways. Previously, I had not heard leave alone known what pathos, ethos and logos were all about. I am now a better speaker for I now know what to do to persuade my audience. I can now be able to use ethos to persuade the audience ethically by making sure that I am fully knowledgeable about what I am presenting. Secondly, I can now be able to use pathos be to convince the audience logically by being clear about my claims and having true supporting evidence. Thirdly, I can now be able to use pathos to persuade the audience emotionally by the right word choice and using vivid past experiences to bring reality to the audience.

The American people are easily swayed by the abundance and/or cost of products on the market. As a direct result of this truth, America has fallen into pitfalls in the name of cost effectiveness and consumerism. Pollan gives the examples of the Alcoholic republic and the Republic of fat in which he compares and contrast the causes and results of American lifestyles and the affluence among other changes in our culture and history. Mainly, that Americans will never exhaust their greed and gluttony. Pollan uses ethos, pathos, and logos to successfully persuade his audience to see his point of view.

There are many people who see space as the last and greatest frontier for humankind. There are many groups who are leading the way and NASA is one of them. But should our tax dollars be invested in such an idea? No, according to British history professor Jerry DeGroot. His thesis, in the article “is that United States should, a sensually, defund NASA. From what I can tell, he uses mainly pathos to try to sway his argument, leaving very little appeals to ethos and practically none to logos. I’m going to explore these three appeals, as well as many of the fallacies he uses within the piece.

Aristotle’s rhetorical triangle links three elements of arguing together: the speaker, the story, and the audience. The relationship between the elements determines the speaker’s argument and whether it will be successful in oratory or literature. Ethos, Logos and Pathos are each different aspects of the argument that must be balanced in order to succeed in persuading or convincing an audience. Ethos, or character, relates to the speaker’s credibility that the audience appeals to: it is useful when persuading a group of people to trust what you are saying or doing. Logos, or logic, is a way of convincing and appealing by reason, truth, and facts. Pathos relates to the audience’s emotions and their response to what the speaker is saying.
We see ads everywhere though-out our day even if we know it or not. Ads that make an attempt to persuade us one way or another. It could be to persuade someone into buying a product or even helping children that are in need. Either way, all these ads use certain persuasive methods, which include ethos, pathos or, logos, to get peoples attention. I saw an ad created by the National Association for Gun Rights. Obviously this ad is trying to let people that we have a right to have own guns. The ad shows a woman pointing a gun with the words “Mama didn’t raise a victim”. I’ve decided that the author was targeting woman that can presumably be victims of assault/abuse at any time. Given this information, the author is using pathos to let us know of the dangers that can be encountered at any given time as well as ethos because of the organization promoting the ad and even a bit of logos.
On September 11, 2001, America was forever changed. On this day, America faced the biggest terrorist attack that had ever been carried out; thousands of people lost their lives that day. This day will be forever remembered for all the souls that lost their lives and the brave people who threatened their own life to save others.
Pathos, logos and ethos are techniques incorporated in speeches to ensure that the audience is reached to. However, the employment if any of these techniques has to be thoroughly thought about so as to positively implicate on the delivery of the intended information. Speakers drive their desired point home through capturing the emotions of the audience. Some relate to varied scenarios that might be of interests to the audience. Moreover, some of the speakers use approved facts. By studying the ...
In the 1960’s America was divided over the voting rights of African Americans. It was a time of racial and political unrest as president Lyndon B. Johnson encouraged Congress to pass the Voting Rights Act. On March 16, 1965 “We Shall Overcome” was delivered to congress. Lyndon B. Johnson was elected vice president of the United States in 1960 and became the 36th president in 1963. Throughout his speech Johnson uses a variety of strategies to persuade the nation that African Americans have the right to vote. Some of these strategies include ethos, logos, and pathos.
For some, an argument may be a discussion that leads people to become mad and feel hate towards someone. This also might bring tension, between friends and family, but there’re times when people just want to discuss a topic that they feel would make the conflict better or resolved. When an argument happens, it’s recommended to use Aristotle’s Rhetorical Triangle. It is here that Aristotle set’s up three ways to appeal to the audience, which are ethos, pathos, and logos. These three appeals help the writer to persuade, inform, or convince the audience that what he/she is doing the right thing. Without Aristotle’s Rhetorical Triangle and Aims of Arguments, the writer would unsuccessfully perform an argument correctly. If creditability of the

Jason Silva is a television personality, filmmaker, and performance philosopher. His Facebook page appears to be one of promotion and information. His profile picture is of himself in front of a surreal landscape in which there is a wall with a man looking over it and into the universe. This helps set the tone and brand of his personality: philosophical, futuristic, surreal, and so on and so forth. This is further displayed in his cover photo which consists of several more surrealistic pictures. For example, a body diving into a table with paint splashing out. The message being conveyed throughout his profile is to think, question, and inspire because we are at the forefront. This is further solidified throughout his profile with ethos, logos, and pathos.
