Car commercials are made to convince the audience to buy their car because it is the best, or so they think. They do this by using different modes of persuasion; two examples of this are ethos and pathos. Ethos and pathos are methods used to persuade the audience into believing something that you want them to. Ethos is the ethical appeal that focuses on the author's credibility. It makes sure the audience believes something that an expert or character is saying about the product. Pathos, on the other side, is the emotional appeal that focuses on attracting the audience’s emotions. It makes the audience feel a certain way after watching the commercial. The “2015 Kia K900 Luxury Car – LeBron James Commercial – NBA Partnership – Valet” commercial introduces their car by showing the brand new Kia drive up, having the valet parking guy open the back seat door and him looking at the interior of the car.
Lebron James then gets off the car wearing a lavishing tuxedo with sunglasses and hands the valet parking guy the keys to park the car. Lastly, the commercial shows plenty of people cheering for Lebron as he walks through the red carpet. The commercial is effective because it shows audience the luxurious exterior and interior of the car. It was also memorable because it shows one of the most famous basketball player drive the car, which makes the audience remember it and want the car even more. This commercial is ethos because most people believe almost anything famous people say. For example, they think that Lebron James actually likes the Kia car because he was driving it, however, he got paid to be in that
commercial. The “2014 Subaru Forester TV Commercial Daughter” commercial introduces their car by having a mother talk about her daughter's phases that occurred in that car and growing up. The commercial shows the daughter as a little baby saying her first word in the car, as a toddler that seeing her first day of school, and as a teenager sitting in the front seat of the car. The commercial is effective because it is showing how the car lasted very long through all her daughters phases, which makes the audience want the car. It was also memorable because it makes the audience either remember their children growing up or think about what it will feel like if they had children and were watching them grow up as well. This commercial is pathos because most people get emotional when seeing a commercial that they can relate to. For example, this commercial shows a proud mother talking about watching her little girl grow up and sit in the front seat of the car. Ethos and pathos are the best methods used to persuade the audience into believing something that you want them to. Mostly all car commercials use those methods to get the audience to like and remember the commercial in order for them to go buy their car. I enjoyed both car commercials using ethos and pathos. They are very memorable and can connect to the audience in its own special way.

One of my favorite commercials to watch is the Chick-Fil-A commercials. Their commercials are very ironic but at the same time interesting and entertaining. The main purpose of their commercial is to persuade an audience to go and buy their product or maybe convince an audience to come back again and buy more of their product. They are able to influence their audience through the use of rhetorical elements. Rhetorical elements include: the rhetor, discourse, audience, and rhetorical triangle. Their commercials don’t necessarily target one particular audience, they incorporate different ideas into their commercial to target different audiences such as families, and football fans.

Though they use various kinds on the commercial, the main goal of advertising tries to convince customer to buy their products, or do what they want. An excellent commercial will create a deep impression on their customers, or who want to become their customers by using three classical appeals: pathos, ethos and logos.
The Hawaiian culture is known throughout the western world for their extravagant luaus, beautiful islands, and a language that comes nowhere near being pronounceable to anyone but a Hawaiian. Whenever someone wants to “get away” their first thought is to sit on the beach in Hawai’i with a Mai tai in their hand and watch the sun go down. Haunani-Kay Trask is a native Hawaiian educated on the mainland because it was believed to provide a better education. She questioned the stories of her heritage she heard as a child when she began learning of her ancestors in books at school. Confused by which story was correct, she returned to Hawai’i and discovered that the books of the mainland schools had been all wrong and her heritage was correctly told through the language and teachings of her own people. With her use of pathos and connotative language, Trask does a fine job of defending her argument that the western world destroyed her vibrant Hawaiian culture.

Projects, such as the Dove Self-Esteem Project uses native advertising in their commercials, which refers to a brand or product being simultaneously and indirectly promoted. In this essay, I will analyze the rhetorical devices, such as ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos, as well as the fallacies corresponding to each device, that the Dove Company uses in their self-esteem project .

In order to create an effective advertisement, the author relies on the product’s credibility, uses reasons to convince the reader to buy what he/she is promoting, and attempts to appeal to the reader based on emotion. A way in which this can be achieved is through using three components of writing known as ethos, pathos and logos. As an example to illustrate how these strategies can be used as an effective method of persuasion, I have chosen to analyze an advertisement produced by a travel agency. In the ad, the author’s attempt is to use logos and pathos as his primary means of persuasion but touches on all three components of writing as a method of luring the reader into choosing Texas as the primary choice for a vacation destination. The author’s intent is to rely on this location to represent the travel agency as a source for planning the vacation.
