Ethiopia’s current leader, Mulatu Teshome Wirtu, elected as their president since October 7, 2013. Ethiopia’s current government is Federal republic and Parliamentary republic, and their national language is Amharic Language.
The Masked Dictator
Meles Zenawi, the former leader of Ethiopia, was a very confusing man with a mixed legacy. To the rest of the world, Zenawi seemed like peaceful leader that was pushing Ethiopia forward economically and as a country. He was a man of many faces that had done many things good and many things bad. The bad was hidden by the extreme suppression and total control of outside information and personal expression of the population. Power, money, and total control was the game and the people of Ethiopia were getting played. The threat of physical force and death loomed over the Ethiopian people if they dared to make a move for justice and equality. Zenawi, who died in 2012, was Ethiopia’s dictator and ruled his country by jailing and killing thousands, rigging elections, and spreading government propaganda.
Ethiopia’s government controlled everything, whether it was jailing journalists, exiling critics, or abusing human rights. “Zenawi’s critics were jailed, killed or chased out of the country: in fact, more journalists were exiled from Ethiopia in the last decade than any other country on earth. Let’s restate that: Zenawi kicked out more journalists than any other tyrant on the planet, thereby monopolizing control over information” (Halvorssen, pars. 6). Ethiopia only seemed like a peaceful, progressional place because people out of the country were shielded from the truth. “Keeping Ethiopia together” had it costs that dictator, Meles Zenawi was fine with taking. It was very ignorant for Bil...

...that may be violated in the process. He created dissonance amongst a people that prior to his rule had a “long standing unity and nationalism that made Ethiopia unique” (Dula, pars. 4).As he worked with the U.S. to capture terrorists, many thought he was trying to bring justice to his country and around the world but many people did not know that in return, that his government was receiving about a billion dollars a year in American Aid. He gave a rosy picture of his country’s growthh and sucess and charmed Western leaders with his Zenawi would have anyone killed or exiled if he thought they were threatening his reputation or position in office. Meles Zenawi’s death shouldn't be devastating amongst the Ethiopian people in fact it may come as a sigh of relief. However most are likely holding their breath as to the replacement if the legacy of his extremism continues.
These two short letters were composed by King Nzinga Mbemba Affonso, the king of the Congo who had a trading relationship with Portugal. He wrote this document in 1526 after he realized the negative influences it was having on his kingdom. Affonso notes how poor the people are treated when the Portuguese come to take them away. Affonso wants the king of Portugal to realize “And to avoid such a great evil we passed a law so that any white man living in our Kingdom...Your Highness has in it, since we know that it is in your service too that these goods are taken from our Kingdom otherwise we should not consent to this” (Affonso). He wishes that the king be aware of the injustices and to change them.
Since Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and Russia were very large superpowers at that time Menelik II from Ethiopia wrote a letter to these countries. He was terrified that these countries were not going to protect Ethiopia any longer because they were very engrossed in dividing up Africa. In addition Ethiopia’s boundary on the sea fell into the hands of Muslims. Menelik hoped that through “Jesus Christ Ethiopia will regain its ri...
Ethiopia is one of the most unique among African countries for maintaining its freedom from colonial rule, with the short exception of an occupation by the Italians from 1936-1941. A socialist state was established in 1974 with the overthrow of Emperor Selassie, who had been in control since 1930. A junta or group of military officers called the Derg was responsible for the coup. Yet, this corrupt administration has lead only to warfare and wide scale public suffering. In 1991, the junta was finally brought down by a combination of revolutionary forces who called themselves the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front. In 1994, a constitution was drafted and 1995 marked Ethiopia’s first multiparty elections. Recently, a boarder feud with Eritrea, that lasted over 2 years, was ended in December of 2000; yet recent objections by Ethiopia have delayed a final declaration of border.
During this essay I will provide a detailed outlook on what I learned during the process of reading the book “Left to Tell” by Immaculee Ilibagiza. Immaculee Ilibagiza, came from a family that valued education. Her family were Tutsi’s, during the genocide she experienced a great ordeal of things that many could never live through, yet she survived. During the reading Immaculee depends on her faith in God to help her through the most difficult situations. I will explore what Immaculee experienced during the 1994 Rwanda genocide, such as violation of human rights, and becoming a refugee. I will then take a look further and discuss the role the media played in contributing the genocide and how this made things worse. Lastly, I will discuss who
Also, Ethiopian Culture and North American do not meet in any way and when it comes to language and alphabet, they are like heaven and earth. Ethiopia is located in the Eastern part of Africa. Before the war, Somalia had a well-functioning democratic republic government. Under the 1979 Constitution, the president held executive power. The president was the head and leader of the country’s sole legal political party, The Somali Revolutionary Socialist Party. Elected to serve a 7-year term, the president was nominated by the party’s central committee. Ever since the civil war in 1991, when the government collapsed, Somalia has been in a state of civil war and anarchy (“Somalian Government”).

There are several ethical issues surrounding the decision by the Hutu politicians to start the genocide. It is unfair and unethical for the Hutus to blame the entire Tutsi tribe for the president’s death. The Hutu politicians are so much driven by hatred that they fail to consider the innocent lives to be lost in the planned genocide. Instead, they organiz...
After his coronation, Haile Selassie was instrumental in the introduction of the first written constitution of Ethiopia.
What is often called “the spark that started it all,” occurred on December 17, 2011 in Tunisia. A street vendor named Mohamed Bouazizi set himself on fire to protest the corruption of the government. (Arab Spring, 2013) The 26 year old Bouazizi sold vegetables on the streets of Tunisia to make a living. His self-immolation was brought on when his cart of vegetables was confiscated by a policewoman. (Abouzeid, 2011) Bouazizi then went to the provincial headquarters to complain to officials about his situation. However, they refused to see him. Angered at the way he was being treated, Bouazizi set himself on fire in protest. (Abouzeid, 2011) He was taken to the hospital and stayed there until his death on January 4, 2011. Bouazizi’s self-immolation caused such an uproar that even Tunisia’s dictator, President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, visited him in the hospital. Bouazizi’s mother, Mannoubia, said, “Mohamed did what he did for the sake of his dignity. He lives on, his name lives on. I am proud of what happened in Tunis, I am proud that he is known throughout the Arab World.” (Abouzeid, 2011) Bouazizi’s self-immolation had such a huge impact on Tunisia that Ben Ali fled to Saudi Arabia on January 14.

There are almost as many languages as there are peoples in Ethiopia, about 80 in all. The languages come from a variety of families - Semitic, Hamitic, Nilotic and Omotic. Amharic, spoken in the country's heartland, is Ethiopia's official language, but Tigrinya, spoken in the north, and Orominya, spoken in the south, have semi-official status. The Oromos are the largest ethnic group in the country, and are made up of a muddle of Christians, Muslims and traditional animists. Amharic and Tigrinya use the Ge'ez script, with an understated 231 letters - keep an eye out for fabulously complex Amharic typewriters. Kids are taught English from junior high onward, and many people can speak a smattering or more.
Both America and Ethiopia agree that time is gifted from nature. However, the big difference is the way in which they use it. In the story,” American values and Assumptions,” Gary Althen says, “for Americans time is a resource that, like water or coal, can be used well poorly,” Americans do not like to waste time. They are punctual, well organized, and well managed. Americans have effective knowledge about time and a clear understanding of how to achieve their goals. For example, in the business world, Americans are setting plans in specific times, using resources they have on hand, and breaking the time down into different manageable time tables or schedules. They evaluate their strengths and weakness
