This movie is a cinematic masterpiece that shows the journey of all the patients in a mental ward during the early seventies. This film shows the suffering that patient Jack faces during his stay with a nurse ratchet. This “Nurse” begins as a professional that appears to follow all the rules and maintains order among the mentally ill patients that are under her care. I believe that she should be prosecuted for using her position to belittle a patient into submission. Furthermore, nurse Ratchet is directly responsible for Billy’s short life. She also shows no emotion when talking about how the group should go about their daily routine, rather than mourning the loss of a close friend. This not only breaks many other ethical guidelines, it crosses into criminal territory. Ethical and moral issues are at play here. The guidelines would not advise her to threaten, demean, breach protocol, or treat people as subordinates. Alas, Ratchet by now is viewed as someone who has complete disdain for being a professional counsellor in the true meaning of the word. Ratchet is not done yet as she creates one more twisted plot for her to finally beat McMurphy. Scene 5 The final scene I chose for an ethical violation is when Nurse Ratchet is choked by McMurphy, and right then she decides that he is first in line to be lobotomized. Lobotomies are a violation of all things ethical and moral. This procedure causes McMurphy to lose all emotion and essentially he is now brain dead to the world.
