Ethical Dilemmas: Should Women Freeze Their Eggs?

The central ethical question posed by this case is the fact that women are giving up their eggs for other women in order for them to conceive for a hefty price, but what for? There are many reasons why women choose to freeze their eggs and there are also many reasons why women seek those who have frozen their eggs. I will be arguing that the best response to this question is that many women are unable to have children due to many underlying health and risk factors that play a role in childbirth. Many people are unable to conceive for many reasons. My father was chronically ill with Crohn’s Disease before passing away twelve years ago. My father and mother tried for years to try and get pregnancy and to have a family and they were even told by their doctor that they would never be able to have children since my father was so sick for so many years. Eggs are harvested before being frozen, making it so the women who is having her eggs frozen that she is having to enter outpatient surgery as well as also injecting themselves with extremely strong hormones to make their eggs more dominant compared to normal. There a low rate, which is 30%, that the eggs being implanted into the zygote will result in the birth of a child. The older the women gets who are wanting to freeze their eggs, the more round of eggs they have to retrieve when they undergo the process of egg freezing, which also lowers the odds of the success rate since they are older. Many researchers also believe that women who are freezing their eggs should not be required paid time off for medical reasons since it is not necessarily a procedure that needs to be done, or a procedure that is a life or death scenario.
